  1. Of all four games I had for my Atari Lynx here's Botton to Top:

-Batman Returns (Solidly made, but had the difficulty curve of a skyscraper.)

-Fidelity Ultimate Chess Challenge (Nice, but could have been better with some more music.)

-California Games (I loved the BMX and Footbag parts, but couldn't get the Half Pipe's timing down.)

    -Paperboy

I will say that judging from Zarlor Mercenary, Gates of Zendocon, Galaga, Raiden, and Zaku, that handheld could have been excellent for Shmups.

Come to think of it, I bet Toaplan's arcade catalog would be perfect for Lynx homebrews. Especially Outzone, Fixeight, Zero Wing, and Truxton. (Fun fact: Zero Wing was going to be a three-player game with a third ZIG fighter, but got cut due to complications during development.)

  2. Sci-Fi Channel's Animation Marathon:

    Featuring Ralph Bakshi.

By the way, Studio Trigger is bringing Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt back:

It was high time that they did, and I hope that they Don't screw it up.

  3. One third-party controller that would be perfect for Genesis, Saturn, Avenue Pad 6, and Jaguar Pro Controller Emulation:

98 was incredible year for games. I remember OoT releasing like it was yesterday

      Speaking of anniversaries:

In addition to this, Plok is officially 30 years old, along with the Atari Jaguar and 3DO.

It's too bad that Seibu Kaihatsu isn't able to make their own games anymore. They were one of the best middle market developers in the '80s and '90s.

Speaking of Seibu Kaihatsu, this was one of their last arcade games:

@awbacon I think that this something you could cover.

  8. Time for another DN3D cover, this time from Nordischsound:

He made those, not me. You have to ask him about those. (Chances are that he used something he made for the C64, or GoatTracker.)

    3. Creamhoven

      Creamhoven

No way, that sounds way to good for C64. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

  9. Friendly reminder that Showcase Comic-con is both today and tomorrow, 10AM-5PM. Location: Slidell Harbor Center. They have used games and perhaps some rare/hard-to-find ones. Maybe you can see me there.

I'm back, and got to meet Lisa Ortiz from The Slayers, Battle Arena Toshinden, and Pokémon. Plus, Jackson Bostwick from Filmation's Shazam was also there.

  10. I might as well share these:

I will say this to Embracer Group, Gearbox Software, and 3D Realms: Remakes of Time to Kill, Zero Hour, and Land of the Babes when? Then again, I'm afraid of what Gearbox would do to all three if they did. (Especially how Randy Pitchford is these days.)

  12. How Grabbag should have sounded in Duke Nukem for the GBC.

  13. Looks like Activision has become Act-Invasion:

Are they trying to make Nintendo look like Sega and Valve?

  14. Ray'Z Beyond:

Still great to this very day. I wonder what Tamayo Kawamoto has been up to recently?

  15. One man makes a better Twisted Metal 4 than 989 Studios:

Even one of the game's original programmers is impressed with this. Both this and the TM3 gameplay mod are taking two of the PS1's lemons and making lemonade out of them.

      GoldLeader

I love Twisted Metal 3 and 4!  (Not as much as part 2 obvs, but still Great games!!) ...

  17. For those who grew up with Rainbow Brite, or had friends, sisters, nieces, or cousins who did:

Hallmark just couldn't recreate the success of the '80s original. I will say this in defense of the Dynamite comic: Brittany Williams' artwork was excellent, but wasn't well received in the writing department.

  18. Unpopular and Controversial opinions, Volume 15:

-Link's Awakening is still the best 2D Zelda.

-Outside of Stiff, inexpressive animation, the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon has aged well.

-I don't think the Intellivision Amico deserved to be cancelled.

-If Square Enix was serious about turning a profit, one of the first things they should do is stop following trends into a minefield.

-Micro Cabin was the best third-party developer for the 3DO.

-Nightmare Busters was the closest thing to a Super NES Gunstar Heroes.

-The Slayers deserved better than to be DLC for a gacha game.

-Deep Fear's US release didn't deserve to be cancelled.

-Oliver Stone peaked with Scarface, and hasn't produced worthwhile since.

-NightCry was the worst game from Team Silent's alumni. (Yeah, they went to work on that after leaving Konami.)

So long as you're not saying it's better than Ocarina of Time, I'll allow it.

Other than platoon, I agree with you.

I have no opinion on the rest.

    3. BassGuitari

      BassGuitari

I agree! The game (DX on GBC in my case) just hits every note for me. Plays great, not overly convoluted, simple interface, looks/sounds great, lots of personality, and an expansive yet still somewhat compact game world. And it's honestly got one of my favorite plot arcs of *any* game I've ever played.

    4. Wayler

      Wayler

JFK is Oliver Stone's magnum opus and there is no beating LttP, the rest you can keep.

  19. For those in need of Genesis/Mega Drive FM instruments:

Note: These were all made in Furnace Tracker.

    1. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I have yet to use these for the YM2610, and don't know if they will work with that or some of the other Yamaha FM chips that Furnace Tracker supports.

  20. Why is that so many terrible-to-mediocre games end up with good-to-great music?

OK...If we're all being honest...*ahem*  I Love the music to the SNES game COOL WORLD!...(There.  I said it.) I know...I know...(hangs head) ...Not horrible though,  because of Great music and pretty neat graphics,  at least for some of it,  I don't mind the game...

      SlidellMan

Another example is the Metal Morph OST:

By the way, Martin Galway was one of the composers and recorded the synth samples.

In all seriousness, the reason why bad games end up with quality music is because of a misallocation of resources.

  21. A little gift for Treasure fans:

    Romhacking.net - Hacks - Alien Soldier: 6-Button Controller Support

They also kept support for 3-Button controllers, so don't fret.

  23. Time for Slave Zero!

Standing on the shoulder of Slave Zero - Good Gear Guide by PC World Australia (archive.org)

I'd advise getting it on GOG.com instead of Steam:

    Peixoto's free patch: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=44312848

Said patch doesn't require one to subscribe to his Patreon. Hopefully, Night Dive Studios will remaster this game.

  24. Dirk Eric Schulz presents Popeye Re-animated:

Also featuring animation from Will Finn and Milton Knight. Honestly, I'm surprised that they would agree to this.

    1. SpiceWare

      SpiceWare

Reminds me of Star Wars Uncut where they split the movie into 15 second clips and fans picked a clip to remake any way they desired. Some bits are really well done, others are a bit hokey. I loved one of the Tie Fighter scenes that was recreated using stop-motion animation with bow ties for the fighters.

      Here's the comparison.

  25. Unpopular and controversial opinions, Volume 14:

-I'd rather be playing golf than to watch it. (Ditto for chess.)

-Technosoft's Herzog is long overdue for a revival.

-Hitman: Blood Money = What Metal Gear Solid 4 should have been.

-Isometric Shmups are also in need of resurrection.

-Yoshinori Ono should stick with sound design and audio production.

-Duke Nukem Forever (2011) wasn't terrible.

    -Dub Reggae is underrated.

    -Elex 2 > Fallout 4 & 76.

-Internet memes are the lowest, cheapest form of comedy.

-The Tracey Ullman-era Simpsons shorts have aged well.
