  1. For those who remember Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures:

I might as well say it: this is one underrated game. Now if only Bandai Namco followed up on the Interactive Cartoon game idea that this started...

      jgkspsx

This is a game that I wish people hadn't forgotten. I wouldn't say it's a gem, exactly - it's frustrating as all heck. But it's an amazing idea that works a lot better than you might think.

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I will admit that it has a learning curve and no mouse support. However, this is one of the funniest games of the '90s. That alone, makes it worth playing.

  2. For those who remember Working Designs, Vic Ireland and Tim Trzepacz can be found on YouTube. However, whatever happened to many of their other members, including their voice talent, is unknown.

    1. GoldLeader

As in the LUNAR games?  and Arc The Lad?  Working Designs Ruled!!!!!!

    2. Hydro Thunder

      Hydro Thunder

      DRAGON FORCE!!!

Many people including published journalists indicated they bought a Saturn solely in order to play this game.

And yes, agree with GoldLeader.  Lunar Games, Vay, Popful Mail, Elemental Gearbolt...

They knew how to make games fun, and to give you your money's worth in packaging alone!

That's for sure, and we should invite both Vic and Tim here. Working Designs also brought Thunder Force 5's PS1 port stateside. Too bad that WD went under in around '02-'04. That, and Lunar went from Sega CD excellence to having one of the worst JRPGs for the DS.

  3. For those who still remember The Golden Girls and ALF, here's The Wickedest Witch:

      GoldLeader

Haha...I did not see that around Halloween of '89,   but I was in college...That year my GF dressed as a sexy mouse and I dressed up in my leather and spikes (the Heavy Metal look...)...

      Swami

The Golden Girls were muppets? Who'd have guessed?

  4. For those who want slow Acid:

  5. For those who want to learn lighting, value, and color: learning-color-theory.jpg

    Trust me, it helps.

How about a Goa trance WIP?

Bass: Largo, that elastic lead sound: Strobe2 (with a lot of FX), TD-3 doing the acid line and EastWest Ra doing the tanpura and sitar. Done in Reason 10.

      Sick! I like it.

  7. For those wondering about Attack of the PETSCII Robots, the C64, Pet, and Vic 20 versions are complete.

It also got ported to the Apple ][ with a ][GS port in development.

It's a really cool game. Apart from being a tier 1 youtuber, he is really talented at computer programming.

I also e-mailed him about 7800 Basic and the 7800 Expansion Module.

  8. For those wondering why the Super NES version of Valis IV ended up being the dissected port, Telenet had Laser Soft do the job. Had it been a better developer, it would have been closer to the TG-16/PC-Engine CD original with fewer cuts.

    1. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

Correction: Laser Soft was also responsible for the original, especially considering that they are a part of Telenet. There I go, making questionable assumptions again.

      zetastrike

I thought the SNES version was so boring.  The levels felt very empty.

  9. Friendly reminder that both Cotton 2 and Bulk Slash are now in English.

  10. Friendly reminder that LoSpec has a user-created Atari 8-Bit GTIA palette:

    https://lospec.com/palette-list/atari-8-bit-family-gtia

Note: Paint.net's palette can only display 96 colors maximum.

  11. Friendly reminder that Novation has now released V-Station and B-Station for free.

    https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2022/07/14/novation-v-station-free/

That was awfully nice of them.

  12. Friendly reminder that Taito just brought out Space Invaders: Invincible Collection.

    1. Magmavision2000

      Magmavision2000

It seems rather expensive though. I'd rather just have Space Invaders '78 as a standalone title for $7.99 as I'd probably only play that (unless it has GCCX Invaders).

  13. Friendly reminder that the Camellia City Farmer's Market is underneath the parking lot for the rest of the summer, and it is still 8AM-to-Noon. In the Meantime, here's Art of Trance:

    Enjoy!

  14. Friendly reminder that the Pickford Brothers have a Plok webcomic that is still going. Link: http://www.zee-3.com/plok/

That game's soundtrack still kicks ass to this very day.

    1. DragonGrafx-16

      DragonGrafx-16

The Plok game is amazing with some great music... I never realized there is an ongoing comic.

  15. Friendly reminder that the St. Tammany Hamburger Festival is coming up this weekend.

    https://sttammanyhamburgerfestival.com/

Think of this as fun for the whole family.

With that out of the way, more Cowboy Cooking!

  16. Friendly reminder that this year is Image Comics' 30th anniversary. Especially with YoungBlood, Spawn, Savage Dragon, StormWatch, Shadowhawk, Wild C.A.T.s, and The Maxx.

    1. IntelliMission

      IntelliMission

I was a huge fan of this from late 95 to late 96. After reading DC comics in one of their best eras (late 80s) as an 8-11 year old kid, my 15 year old self somehow decided it was time to go back to super-hero comic-books (the painful transition to high school probably helped) and really wanted to like it, so he bought around 30 comics: a couple of issues of Gen13, 3 issues of Savage Dragon, 1 issue of Spawn, another issue of Freak Force, 3 issues of some terrible series by Liefeld called New Men, 1 of Cyber Force, 1 of Deathblow, 1 of The Maxx...

In retrospect, the only interesting things were the Image logo and the 5 consecutive issues of Wild C.A.T.s written by Alan Moore that I bought at the end of that period (at least my tastes improved over time!).

My conclusion is that not everyone can do a John Byrne successfully and go from just doing the art to also writing the book.

(And yes, I know Spawn and Savage Dragon are decent. I liked the art for those, but I can't say the same about the writing).

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I have to concur, but at least Spawn and Youngblood eventually got good over the years. Most notably, Alan Moore's take on Youngblood and the current run of that series from 2011. Rob Liefeld has started to improve on his art. Savage Dragon, unfortunately, has been going downhill for quite some time. That isn't helped by the fact that Erik Larsen can still draw well.

  17. G-Type, when Gradius meets R-Type:

  18. Gaist Crusher, one of the last games from Treasure:

Its sequel, Gaist Crusher God, was the last game that Treasure made:

They still exist, but just barely.

  19. Garbaj on retro 3D indie game graphics:

    His Overwatch video:

  20. Given how SF5 turned out, Yoshinori Ono leaving Capcom would be an improvement.

    1. Ryan Witmer

      Ryan Witmer

SF4 was already a huge step backwards from SF3.  SF5 somehow screwed it up even more.

maybe they'll stop doing the idiotic giant hands and feet now

    3. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

Looks like Razörfist wasn't the only one who thought that SF4 was weak... (He also hated SF3: Third Strike for setting the SF4 & 5 groundwork.)

  21. Great news! Dynamic Designs has released the translation patch for Power of the Hired: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/6031/

    Enjoy!

  22. Happy 25th anniversary Newgrounds!

  23. Happy 79th Birthday, Woody Woodpecker!

      GoldLeader

I used to watch Woody as a kid...Classic!  Do you guys remember how there were 2 Woodys?  I mean, it was kinda like the 2 Darrins on Bewitched...

    2. retrorussell

      retrorussell

Interesting that Woody's voice was creator Walter Lantz's wife!

  24. Happy 85th Birthday, Daffy Duck:

Today would also have been Joe Alaskey's birthday if it wasn't for his passing in 2016.

    1. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

My personal favorite Daffy cartoons were made betwixt 1938 and 1953. That was before he became the bitter, spiteful, antagonistic, greedy fall guy who always got the short end of the stick.
