Hyperviolent is out!
-
Somebody must have been a fan of N64 Romhacking and Bomberman 64...
-
Great news in the realm of the 3DO: Kenji Eno's Oyaji Hunter Mahjong is now in English!
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/6893/
For those who missed the Doctor Hauzer translation:
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/5654/
Snowy Aria would have a field day with the 3DO version of Eye of the Typhoon.

I'm back from the Colombia St. Block Party, and while I was there; the record store there had a Dolphin Blue arcade cabinet.

Unpopular and Controversial Opinions, Volume 12:
-I'm still surprised that Microsoft would upload the source codes to MS-DOS 1 & 2.
-If companies were serious about Girl games, Koei should have brought Angelique Duet DS stateside.
-Epic Games should make a proper sequel to Unreal 2.
-I think Naz Edwards got a bad rap for DiC's Sailor Moon dub. (Ditto for Jill Frappier.)
-Jack Black's take on Bowser was surprisingly good, almost like an in-between Eric Newsome (Super Mario Sunshine) and Harvey Atkin (The SMB Super Show); Seth Rogen's take on Donkey Kong was boring and unfitting. (I liked his voice actor from the Mainframe DKC cartoon better.)
-Valkyrie Elysium had more of a reason to exist than Forspoken.
-Electronic Arts needs to take a break from sports titles, micro-transactions, and bad Battlefield sequels.
-Sega's best year was 1992.
-Oculus Rift, Playstation VR, and the 3DS owe their existences to the Virtual Boy.
-Am I the only person who thinks that a Dynasty Warriors game set to either Sailor Moon, Angel Sanctuary, or Dragon Half would be awesome? (Fun fact: Kotono Mitsuishi voiced Usagi/Sailor Moon, Mink, and Rosalia de Catargena.)

Phantis for the 128k ZX Spectrum:
This Spanish ZX Spectrum game was also available for the C64 and MSX.
-

Whoever made Waluigi in Fallout had a lot of balls doing that.
-
Hainbach on the Seiko DS Keyboard:
Martin Galway actually owned one of these, and here is what he had to say:
QuoteWhat a cool video! This synth was sitting around the office when I took my job at Ocean Software in January 1985. Naturally I took charge of it and played most of my Ocean tunes on it before they were programmed into the C64. I had the additive synth module but not the sequencer. It was fun to play around with... I tended to think it was a bit pointless because it was so thin-sounding that I couldn't imagine anyone wanting to use it. (and it is not exactly a legendary name in the synth pantheon)

Act-Fancer: Cybernetic Hyper Weapon:
-
For those who grew up on Arena and Daggerfall:
I hope those who are remaking these two in Unity don't make the same mistakes Bethesda did, or for that matter, what George Broussard did with Duke Nukem Forever.
-
The Metal Morph OST:
Possibly one of the few things that Origin Systems got right with this one.
-
Excellent news, Stunt Race FX now has a Fast ROM patch!
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/7638/
In addition, Skyblazer also got the Fast ROM treatment:
-
I can't believe I forgot about Frank Welker's Birthday two days ago.
-
Friendly reminder that Matt Furniss is on SoundCloud:
However, he doesn't have all of his music on there.
-
I'm surprised that emergent gameplay isn't more common amongst indie-AA titles. By Emergent Gameplay, I'm talking about what is seen in Syvalion, Clock Tower, and Westwood's Blade Runner.
-
Silpheed Alternative: Menace From Beyond the Stars:
This feels like it belonged on the 3DS or PS Vita. Here's hoping that GungHo Online Entertainment lets Game Arts re-master this for modern hardware and proper controller support.
-
Silpheed: The Lost Planet, aka Silpheed: The Forgotten Sequel:
I don't know which is the saddest: the death of Takeshi Miyaji, Treasure not making any new games, or Game Arts being owned by Gung-Ho Entertainment and re-releasing the first two Grandia games. By the way, there's a bonus for Symphony of the Night fans and Classic Resident Evil.
-
I have to admit, the briefing screen music is excellent:
Edit: By "Re-releasing the first two Grandia games," I meant only the first two games, and not their other classics such as Thexder, Silpheed, Faria, Alicia Dragoon, Zeliard, and the Lunar series that wasn't Dragon Song. (AKA Lunar: Gone to dog shit.)

Another Neon Struct video:
Ultima Underworld: Unity edition:
Bad news regarding System Shock 3:
-
If you people loved Deus Ex and Thief: The Dark Project, here's some more games in the vein of those two worth checking out:
Neon Struct - https://store.steampowered.com/app/310740/NEON_STRUCT/
Brigand Oaxaca (Deus Ex in Mexico) - https://store.steampowered.com/app/652410/Brigand_Oaxaca/
As for Underworld Ascendant, it's pathetic as to what happened. Postal 4 pathetic, to be blunt.
-
Friendly reminder that licensed music is why the Psygnosis-era Wipeout games haven't been re-released on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Store. I'm talking about the DOS/Windows 95 ports, by the way. (Ditto for Wipeout 64.)

QuoteIt's The Wonder Years and WKRP in Cincinnati all over again...
Northern Exposure as well. I was disappointed with the DVDs because they replaced a lot of the original music from season 2 on. I was quite happy a couple years ago when I discovered it was remastered in HD and released with all the original music. Minor issue though, it's from the UK so you need to be able to handle Region B discs (which I can).

New Boulder Punch video, this time it's Lifeline:
I suggest chipping into his Patreon, and requesting that he review something obscure as Deep Fear, Super Burnout, the Angelique franchise, or Lucienne's Quest.
-
Here's his Patreon if you want to recommend something:
https://www.patreon.com/boulderpunch
He has plans to review the System Shock remake.
