  1. There's just something about the TB-303 that makes people want more of it. Fun fact: Roland also used the same filter on the SH-101 and MC-202.

Gotta love the Classic Roland sounds!

I have a TD-3 which is a 303 clone and I love it. I also have a TB-3 but it's not as good at 303 sounds. This album of mine has lot's of 303 in it...

  2. By the way, the Service Merchandise in Slidell used to sell used games during its final years.

I remember those stores. Got my 1st walkman there. big clunky silver thing, that ate batteries, 4 at a time, lol

Service Merchandise is also where I played the CD-i, two of the Virtual Boy's games, and they even had a JVC X'Eye in Slidell.

      Ho'wd I miss this?

  4. I don't know if anyone here still remembers Lidsville or Sid & Marty Krofft, but here's a video on its troubled production history:

By the way, I heard from Mark Evanier that the wife of one of the Krofft Brothers died years ago.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

      Interesting,

I mainly remember this show, because I thought it didn't air here.  I'm sure I didn't notice (that it did) when I was 1 or 2 years old haha...

But I saw it while on vacation, (a rerun evidently)  and caught a whole episode before my parents wanted to leave the motel and hit the road...

Later I would get it on VHS "The World of Sid & Marty Krofft",  from Columbia House...

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I first saw Lidsville, The Bugaloos, Sigmund, and H. R. Pufnstuf on the Family Channel around 25 years ago. Rewatching Pufnstuf and Lidsville last year had me laughing and those two shows have surprisingly aged well.

PS Did not realize that was the kid from The Musters...

(I told everybody it wasn't King Diamond (joke))

  5. After all these years, I'm surprised that Tatsuya Uemura and Masahiko Yuge haven't said anything about AYB:

Speaking of Toaplan, Bit Wave is porting Zero Wing to the PC.

Believe me, they know about it lol. Uemura-san signed my Zero Wing with AYB, too.

I bet Uemura-san would get a kick of this:

He might. New Day For Me is Tomizawa, though.

  6. Riz-Zoawd/The Wizard of Oz: Beyond the Yellow Brick Road:

I will say this: Using the DS touch screen as a trackball was something better suited for Marble Madness. On the other hand, I do like the art direction this game has.

    1. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

For those who are retching and gagging with that remake, maybe Media Vision's take on L Frank Baum's book will wash that bad taste out.

    2. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Jeez!  A CIB of that game goes for more than my SNES cart (CIB :) !

    3. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

@GoldLeader I never seen a copy of that for sale anywhere, not even in 2nd & Charles. In all honesty, Media Vision should give the series and its characters another chance. If only we got American McGee's OZ, because he knows about the other Oz books that L. Frank Baum and Jack Snow wrote.

  7. Now that is an undertaking.

      Episodes 8 and 9:

  8. Data East's Dragon Gun:

Too bad that they never made another light gun/joystick gun game after this.

    1. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

That looks awesome. Never even heard of it before, but I love the theme and art style.

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

This would make an excellent homebrew port to the Falcon or Amiga 1200-4000.

    3. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I wanted to make a correction: Data East also made another light gun game. It is called Locked & Loaded.

While I was at Galloping Ghost Arcade, I decided to play Dragon Gun. That game is worth playing in the arcade, and even emulation doesn't do it justice.

  9. I was going to Florida days ago, but when I came down with a fever. Thus, I had to turn back. As much as I wanted to see family that I haven't seen in years; it was best that I didn't get them sick.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

You made the right call!  More people should care about others.  Hopefully get tested and see what it is or isn't.

    2. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Best of luck!!  And get better sir!  Also, I had fevers twice and got concerned both times, but (after being tested) each was a false alarm.   The first time in the earlier days of COVID (and things may be different now), the nurse told me statistically that about 48% of COVID patients had a fever,  so just under half,  but many things will give you a fever...I had one for the flu, for instance.

    3. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

@GoldLeader Thanks, it means a lot.

  10. The Bravoman cartoon is hilarious!

I'd say that Shifty Look took what Jay Ward and Bill Scott did in the '50s, and improved on it considerably.

      SlidellMan

I also recommend Shriek if You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th and Mafia. Parodies/Screwball comedies are sorely needed this decade, but not from Seltzer and Friedburg. Hell, the Zucker brothers helped ruin the series after Harvey Weinstein fired Keenan Ivory Wayans.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I loved the one ( 4 maybe? whichever one it was) that parodied War of the Worlds and Signs....Especially that beginning part where it's like Signs and they're running through the crop circles saying What does it all mean??  And the camera pans out to an overhead view and it's an Arrow that points to their farmhouse and says ATTACK HERE!  ...Heha...That kills me!

  12. Top Five games made in Unity:

    2. SlidellMan

As in overall quality and fun. Sorry for not elaborating on that.

    3. Max_Chatsworth

      Max_Chatsworth

I don't know if I know other games that are Unity, but 3 of my favorites made in Unity are:

Playdead Studios's Limbo and Inside games

      and

      Campo Santos' Firewatch

  13. With MTV's 40th this year, I thought I would post this:

Man, I still remember how they had some of the best animated shows of the late '90s while being the epicenter of the Dark Age of American Music. (1996-2002)

    1. x=usr(1536)

      x=usr(1536)

I miss Liquid Television.  It was the first exposure to MTV's animated stuff we got before MTV was available on our cable system.

    2. thanatos

      thanatos

24/7 music videos.  And then Beavis and Butthead was great in the early 90's - but once it turned into the 24/7 Real World reality show in the late 90's on weekends (Thanks, MTV, for ruining everything with inventing reality shows), it was lost.

Potential Internet Meme Material: Virgins Real World and Road Rules vs the Chad Abby Terkuhle.

  14. Would an E-Body Cadillac Eldorado ('67-80) make a good hot rod?

      Rick Dangerous

      Not really. Too heavy.

      still a cool car though

  15. Given how SF5 turned out, Yoshinori Ono leaving Capcom would be an improvement.

    1. Ryan Witmer

      Ryan Witmer

SF4 was already a huge step backwards from SF3.  SF5 somehow screwed it up even more.

    2. masschamber

      masschamber

maybe they'll stop doing the idiotic giant hands and feet now

    3. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

Looks like Razörfist wasn't the only one who thought that SF4 was weak... (He also hated SF3: Third Strike for setting the SF4 & 5 groundwork.)

  16. Autotuned Cat song:

    1. joeatari1

      joeatari1

Cool music. Is Cobie a Bengal?  My sister had four of them at one time.  Boy was that entertaining!

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

Yep, that is a Bengal. My neighbors have one.

    3. Giles N

      Giles N

It’s sufficiently ridiculous to take time to listen

to... what sort of nonsense is all this, where do people find it ?

But, wait... its about  cats  ,.. so

      who cares?!!

  17. I don't think Beast Wars and Beast Machines deserve the hate they get. Yes, Beast Wars' CGI has dated substantially, and Beast Machines had story problems and ideas that shouldn't have worked. Yet, I still like both very much. Oh, I'm also into War Planets: Shadow Raiders. (Best Canadian CGI cartoon ever.)

    1. masschamber

      masschamber

I don't recall people hating beast wars and beast machines deserves it and then some

I was going to post essentially what mass said.

    3. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

I'm going to take the high road by bringing up three movies: Revenge of the Fallen, Age of Extinction, and The Last Knight. I rest my case.

  18. If there is one thing I can say about the recently departed Will Vinton: He was the definitive claymation director of the '80s.

    1. jaybird3rd

      jaybird3rd

I'm not familiar with most of his output, but I loved his claymation work in "Return to Oz." It's so much more interesting to look at than CGI will ever be.

    2. Stephen

      Stephen

If you like claymation, look up Bruce Bickford, especially in relation to Frank Zappa. Also, RIP Will Vinton - did not know about him, but learning now.

    3. DZ-Jay

      DZ-Jay

What about Nick Park and the Aardman crew? I love Wallace & Gromit, and Chicken Run is a classic!

  19. I think that Alex Kidd is need of a revival. Seriously, Sega should consider this.

    1. retrorussell

      retrorussell

Make him a little less goofy this time.

    2. Reaperman

      Reaperman

If Sega hears something like 'a little less goofy' they will immediately snap to the grimdark world of child soldiers and make him the most depressing valkyria chronicles dlc.

    3. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

Only if they get rid of the "one hit kills" :P

  20. Too bad that Twisted Metal: Harbor City was cancelled. Judging from what was on TMHO Extra Twisted Edition, it fixed the questionable lighting issue from TMB.

    1. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Twisted Metal Games were my Favorite thing in the Universe until the unplayable PS3 version that has NO D-Pad controls...

    2. SlidellMan

      SlidellMan

Actually, you controlled with the left analog stick. Plus, it also has the classic control scheme.

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

Wait! What do U mean it Has the classic control scheme, which would mean you can control it with the D-Pad like in Every other TM game?? I tried it for 3 minutes once and it was horrible because they got rid of the D-pad which now controls the special moves...Is there really a way to play it now>???? HOW?? (Sorry this is The game that killed modern games for me...I had such High hopes...

  21. Am I the only person who is in the middle on Steven Universe? Sure, it took what DBZ did, and did it better; yet the voice acting and animation aren't good.

    1. dj_convoy

      dj_convoy

I think both the voice acting and animation are pretty decent for today's standards. The story kind of lost me, tho', after really liking the show for a little bit there. I haven't checked in in awhile.

    2. Flojomojo

      Flojomojo

I don't like the art style, but this interview with the creator makes me a little more interested. https://the1a.org/shows/2018-07-09/the-mind-behind-americas-most-empathetic-cartoon

    3. Jess Ragan

      Jess Ragan

I got the first season for three bucks. Maybe I should get around to watching it.

  22. If there are some things about Swat Kats I still like: The music, voice acting, choreography, and color theory. Too bad that HB couldn't market the show well. (Which led to its cancellation.)

    1. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

"Billionare" Ted Turner canceled it cause it was "too violent". Another casuality of political correctness...

    2. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

I seem to recall he was pushing that godawful crap Captain Planet on people and was getting rid of shows people liked...

    3. GoldLeader

      GoldLeader

To this day I hate anyone who thinks that cartoons should be "educational", and of course the senators who came up with e/i and killed Saturday morning cartoons...(I'm not talking about School house Rock and Sesame Street BTW)...

  23. As much as I liked watching the original TMNT cartoon ('87-'96), I will admit that it hasn't aged well. Hell, I can see why Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman hated it. The 2003 TMNT, on the other hand, is criminally underrated and is easily the best thing 4Kids has ever done.

    1. Jess Ragan

      Jess Ragan

2003 Turtles are definitely better, but I like how the 2012 series "split the difference" between the old and new shows. Baxter Stockman getting chopped to bits in the 4Kids series was a little too intense for me.

    2. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

2003 TNMT was the closest you'll ever get to the original comics. '87 version was just a toy commercial...

    3. BassGuitari

      BassGuitari

I still owe my parents a massive apology for forcing them to endure that part of my childhood. And also to my grandmother, who took me to TMNTII:Secret Of The Ooze when it came out. Yikes.

  24. If there is one thing I like about 3D printing, you can use it to create replacement parts for old cars, TVs, etc.

    1. CPUWIZ
    2. Andrew Davie

      Andrew Davie

I'm doing a lot of printing these days. I have 4 and another 80% built. I moderate one of the FB printing groups.
