Personal 4 port cartridge expansion project

If I can learn how, I will probably take your 2 port design and use two of them to make a 4 port design. Are these files typically universal for software? -
Personal 4 port cartridge expansion project

Oh, I've been looking at that a lot lately. It sure crossed my mind more than once (this topic here) - I'm just no good with building a jumper wired prototype. I need to learn how to make a 2 layer PCB and just solder in the switched, resistors, and GROM ports. Someday. -

Do you have a GoTek or Lotharek floppy emulator?
Sinphaltimus replied to Sinphaltimus's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Yeah, I keep misspelling it - sorry. One thing some users report about Lotharek over Gotek is that Lotharek emulates DSK1 DSK2 and DSK3 on the TI system whereas GoTek can only do either DSK1 or DSK2 but definitely not more than one disk drive. I have 2 physical disk drives in my TI's PEB plus one GoTek which is why GoTek makes sense to me. The additional cost for the additional features of Lotharek would be of no benefit to me because If I utilize all three virtual floppy drives, then I cannot use my 2 real floppy drives. If I only had one physical floppy drive it might be OK sine I can emulate 2 more with Lathorek, but needing access to 2 physical floppy drives plus one virtual makes GoTek a better choice for me. -

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to configure HxC without an LCD screen mod done. I can't seem to find any software that will open and allow editing of the cfg file directly. I know that the CFg needs to be changed and told that the host is a TI99/4a. I defer to Jeff for that answer. -
Do you have a GoTek or Lotharek floppy emulator?

--- Ω --- : Also, as an after thought too late to edit above - If the PEB TiPi acts the same as the SideCart TiPi then leaving the DSK assignments blank in TIPICFG allows any those DSK assignments to work elsewhere. I did an unofficial and unsupported test with the sidecart version of TIPI. I plugged my sidecart TIPI into an unpopulated 32k sidecart (Unavailable) just for power and with an adaptor (Unavailable) I plugged my nanoPEB into my TIPI. nanoPEB had all 3 DSK allocations perfectly functioning if I left the DSK configs blank in TIPICFG. If I assigned DSK1 in TIPICFG, then DSK1 worked on TIPI while DSK2 and 3 worked on the nano, etc.. So TIPI config took precedence. I imagine the PEB version will act the same so adding a TIPI to a PEB will only expand it further without giving up any existing floppy disk functions AFAIK. Pretty cool eh? But let's not derail this topic any further (completely my fault by adding this entire reply) - just wanted to put this out there. -

I don't believe there are any "known" issues with those formats at the moment. There was with an earlier version of HxC but the most recent version fixes that. -
Do you have a GoTek or Lotharek floppy emulator?

--- Ω --- : Freedom of choice - It rocks! I like to tweak things for better performance when it comes to milliseconds on the computer so for me, eliminating an additional step (although it may not take a lot of time) is one more step I never have to think about anymore. EDIT: I totally get you with the TiPi tho - I have removed my nanoPEB shortly after receiving mine. It's now in a box to be used solely for easy travel gigs. Ksarul : Excellent, thank you! RickyDean: Sweet! - sorry I keep missing you in 8Ball Pool - I hardly play and when I do I'm usually in tournament as i find it more cost effective on the returns. - You're final config sounds awesome, can't wait to see pics when ready. adamantyr: Yeah, for me it came down to cost vs. features. I also wanted flexibility so when I did my 80-track mod to the FDC I put 80-track as DSK1 on GoTek, 80-track as DSK2 on 3.5"Floppy and 40-track as DSK3 external 5.25" inside of a CD-Rom case. I wouldn't be able to take advantage of real floppies if I went Lathorek, but choices are good. What did you spend on the GoTek? Maybe I'll take it off your hands, PM me. Been thinking about putting one in my W98 box. -

Do you have a GoTek or Lotharek floppy emulator? I'm asking because up until recently you were stuck using HFE formatted disk images. But now we have 2 developers enhancing their firmware to support TI's DSK (v9t9 and in at least one case PC99) format.- HxC works on both devices and Flashfloppy works on GoTek. At least that's my assumption at the moment - could be wrong, maybe FF works on both also? Anyway, Both developers of their respective firmware revisions have put links up for folks to test so if you want, come on over to the development subforum, do a quick catch up read, grab your new firmware and give it a go. This is essentially going to put an end to converting all those wonderful dsk images to HFE. Now, you can just jam them all onto a single USB stick large enough to hold them all. It also means saving from real iron to dsk that will immediately work in emulation. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/276608-important-news-and-i-need-some-help/

TIPI - TI-99/4A to Raspberry PI interface development

As long as we are allowed to let our imaginations run wild..... I'm wondering if there could be a way to use the TI as a voice recorder changer. There are decent sound input devices for Pi, I have one that I use with Amibian to record samples for use OctaMED. So with such a device, Record from Pi audio input to the TI and playback on TI. Possibly take a human voice and pump it out via the voice synth? I have no idea how such a thing could be approached or if that's a realistic day dream but I'd love to see folks poking and prodding as such crazy ideas. Possibly to the point where short recorded voice samples could be use in programs via synth? The imagination goes wild here I think. Also, I can't help imagine (and I just might give this a try this weekend) will the Pi detect a USB graphics tablet as a mouse? If so, could a USB graphics tablet be used with the mouse demo? Then the idea of someone developing a driver for USB game pads. Starting simple (joystick directions and one button) - then we could use modern USB gamepads with our TI's. Possibly expand that to more than joystick one button configurations? Rich demo'ed in a video how he connects two consoles together (I think using HxD or something like that (A modded rs232 card)) He was remote controlling one console from another (able to send code and execute programs etc..) - Would love to see that working between two TIPI enabled consoles or more realistically, between a TiPi enabled console and an emulated one on PC - for development reasons. ie. Develop in emulation, execute on real console via tipi as opposed to saving to share then executing manually on eal console.. And then of course we have all the online gaming possibilities and multiplayer possibilities. We can already load programs from a web server. I don't want to think of the console becoming a dumb terminal because ti doesn't. it remains the smart console it has always been but with TiPi it can essentially become a terminal to so many possibilities. Ok, I have to stop before my head explodes. -

My issue is simple. I have one GoTek in my Modified PEB. It's a terrible ordeal to physically access it due to the modifications I made. I never intended to ever open my PEB again unless there was a catastrophic failure of something needing replacing. I have money I haven't earned yet allocated for other purchases so I won't be getting another GoTek anytime soon. However; that's a great idea. I do have another PEB packed away as a spare, unmodified. I should probably set that up and grab my other GoTek out of my Amiga tower for just these types of things. So this weekend I will test HxC further if we don't get more results from the rest of the community in time for Jeff to finalized the feature soon. Then I'll have to pull my GoTek out of the Amiga and setup another PEB console to test FF from if we don't get enough data back from other testers on that front. This whole GoTek to support TI's dsk images just took off a lot faster than I was prepared to help two different developers test their firmware. If it were easy to bounce back and forth from one FW to the other then that's a no brainer, but that's just not the case here from what I understand. I can understand Jeff holding his USB bootloader option as a closely guarded secret - I mean, if there was a way to serialize my FW install and an NDA to sign, I'd do that and never let it out of my possession. *hint*hint* - but no pressure there from me. It's a very risky thing to do in order to protect it from getting out in the wild and I respect and understand that for sure. -

Jeff, two big questions I have are.... Once GoTek is registered with HxC, if another firmware is applied, can we go back to HxC without having to pay again? Two, does HxC support loading the bootloader again via USB male to USB male or would I still need to gain access to the PCB to connect the serial interface for reprogramming? -

Well, it looks like things are ramping up - Options now available - I think we need teams. One to stay on HxC for testing those from Jeff and one to jump on flashfloppy and start testing that. Please see this github issue tracker for full details. Kaffer is asking if there is any interest in also supporting PC99 dsk images and has a question on how to detect track layout, based on file size vs sector 0 contents. https://github.com/keirf/FlashFloppy/issues/88 -
I don't have many ways to "give back" to such an awesome community. When I find a way, I make it happen because, "thank you" to everyone here for making this hobby one of the best. I don't own a GramKracker, I wouldn't know what to do with one if I did, but this, this I can do. You're welcome. I'm feeling confident I'll be completed by this coming Sunday sometime. At that time I will submit it privately to several with access to the original and full blown knowledge to check over my work and ensure accuracy. I find some mistakes along the way and correct as i go so another set of eyes or two or three can't hurt. Once approved, I'll release everything including the dia files. I started with photoshop but will be transferring the photoshop work over to dia before completion as dia will be the final output retaining the super hi res and printability since it is vector based.

Schmitzi - Please do test with existing dsk images and report back if you can be so kind. I'm kind of swamped this week and would really like to start testing a bunch myself but the first few I picked seemed to be bad picks for whatever reason. You definitely have a much better grasp on what should be working and can start from there.I'm looking at possibly Friday morning beig the soonest that I can dedicate any real time to do extensive testing.
