I did festwest once and the TI chicago User Group annual meeting once. It'll be difficult to do either of those again for a long while. would be great to have a North eastern US meeting. Not sure how many TI99ers are out this way.

New 32k XB Game:ZOMBi (work in progress)
Sinphaltimus replied to Sinphaltimus's topic in TI-99/4A Development
My biggest challenge with Zombi is making the later levels more difficult by adding more Zombies. This results is a severe performance hit with all the coinc calls that need to be made on moving targets (bot for the player and for the Zombies). I think my largest zombie count on screen is 4 at any given time before the game slows down way too much to be playable. 4 is a bit slower but 3 seems optimal so I'm thinking of Zombi spawn generators where a new zombi will appear after one is killed. i can simply give each generator a finite number of zombies is can spawn based on how far along the player is n the game hence at the higher levels, they will spawn more and more zombies making as opposed to the beginning levels where they may only spawn a few before they stop. The objective is to increase the difficulty as the player progresses. I'll probably also increase the speed of the zombies as the player progresses to add to that level of difficulty later on. This will require a significant rewrite of some portions of my code but I think I'm getting close to picking this project up again.- 199 replies

Using sprites for platforms in a platform game
Sinphaltimus replied to Retrospect's topic in TI-99/4A Development
Interesting, I never considered using sprites when i started work on Zombi. all screens have a fixed platform pattern so i know the vertical position of every floor. I simply used sprites for the holes in the floor so a coinc detection would initiate a falling animation. I lock the player's vertical position as per the platform vertical position with pixel adjustments to line up correctly. Is there any benefit to using sprites vs fixed positions? I don't know that I'd enjoy a flickering platform unless that is the intended visual effect. zmobi reference with sources: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/255837-new-32k-xb-gamezombi-work-in-progress/page-8?hl=%2Bzombi&do=findComment&comment=3693193 -
That's how I do it. Tipi folder shared with windows so I can develop in classic99 and immediately ru/test on real iron via tipi. I start my new Job tomorrow. Once I get acclimated to the new work schedule I'll be returning to my Zombi game with much needed changes AND working on a new game for the tipi that's a bit more advanced than a number guessing game like last time.

Cellphone Audio Amplifier for the Cassette Port
Sinphaltimus replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
This audio amplifier did not seem to improve things at all for my cheap digital audio device. I never had an issue loading from cell phone but I wanted to try and replace the tape drive with something that could save and load. *sigh* -
Are you capable of doing it yourself?
Sinphaltimus replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Oh darn, I skewed the results. I selected "Other" then was going to say that you didn't mention the format (Because if PC formatted then no) and then my brain finally processed the "TI" part of the question so my answer would be YES - Piece of cake instantly. -

Cellphone Audio Amplifier for the Cassette Port
Sinphaltimus replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
The amp arrived yesterday and I was disappointed the headphone jack is 2.5mm so I need to get an adaptor. More once the adaptor arrives. -
Just skimming all this about HDMI licensing and a thought occurred to me. The makers of the Apollo Vampire Accelerator card for Amigas use an HDMI connector but the video signal they use is not HDMI. it is instead the Digital Video standard (DVi) which, from my understanding, allows them to completely avoid the quagmire of HDMI licensing. It does not adhere to an HDMI standard at all but works on most HDMI displays. So for instance, it doesn't pass data or audio. Just the digital video signal. A thought.....

Loading games on to the TI99 Flash ROM
Sinphaltimus replied to ColorComputerStore's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Welcome. first you should read this - http://atariage.com/forums/topic/267055-new-to-the-group-ti-994a-faq-hardware-and-software-resources-read-first/ And to address your direct concerns, this - http://atariage.com/forums/topic/253095-flashrom-99-finalgrom-99-image-repository-532018/ As for disk image and Tape programs to cart, there are a number of tricks people have pulled off over the years using other devices like a GRAM KRACKER and an UBERGROM Cartridge. If your program can be listed in BASIC or extended BASIC then it should be able to compile to EA5 then be converted to BIN as long as it adheres to some rules regarding the compiler. I myself don't know the specifics for each case but searching the forums may turn up the info you need. -
Well, I never used mame for anything besides the arcade roms. I used to run mess for a little bit to check out some old computers but I often opted to use individual emulators for each hardware. MAME was the only game in town for original arcade roms tho'. That's really it. I've read a very long time ago about rom versions working in newer versions of mame so instead of worrying about it I just used what worked for what I wanted. I still run a windows 98 and multiple windows XP computers without ever updating them for the sake of older software that doesn't work in Windows 10. But that's just me I supposed.
-
How does the newest release of Mame handle roms from around 2012. I run mame32 (back when MAME and MESS were 2 different products) and it works fine for me - my roms are from back in those days as well. I never upgraded because of two things - first "if it aint broke don't fix it" and second, I cannot take the time or effort to update all of my existing roms. However, if the newest version of mame runs a lot better than the older versions and supports much older roms. I may be inclined to look at it. So I thought I'd inquire with those that are "in the know" first.

Cellphone Audio Amplifier for the Cassette Port
Sinphaltimus replied to Omega-TI's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
I ordered one of these due to your post. I will have it in a few weeks. I ordered a digital recorder real cheap a while back to see if it would be a viable tape deck replacement but the levels were way too low. i even picked up stereo to mono jumper cables but that didn't help things so I am hopeful this might do the trick. Also, because of a non-TI computer need, I just received one of these devices I needed to record music on a laptop without any audio input or microphone jack - Once my music recording needs are met I will need to find a use for this and thought it might be the perfect device to plug in the tape recorder cables in/out to for direct PC to tape to PC loading and saving. I haven't plugged it in yet but I bet the microphone switch changes it to mono recording - I already know the line in selection would be stereo. So I will circle back with some feedback (no pun intended) on this new device and that mini amplifier. Both reports will probably be in a couple of weeks if only because the music recording will be done in a couple of weeks and that amplifier device should arrive around the same time. To satisfy curiosity, one of my boys is entering the Band-Up competition and wants the best possible recordings of his drum playing. As low budget as we are, this new device will be plugged into my 4 channel mixer taking 4 microphone inputs that are mic'ed up to his drums. I tried a cheap ass USB audio device I had but the mic input is mono only. Such is the way of most PC mic inputs unless you go high end on some expensive add-ons. But this new device fills the immediate need nicely I suppose. -
TIPI - TI-99/4A to Raspberry PI interface development
Sinphaltimus replied to jedimatt42's topic in TI-99/4A Development
Excellent information here. I have the standard set of cards - no Horizon Ram or SAMS or HDD controllers, not even an RS232. Just RAM, 32k and FDC. So this uts me at ease. I'll probably be in on the second batch as I haven't seen the sticker shock yet but I'm certain I probably won't be one of the first out of the gate for a PEB version until I settle in on my new budgets. -

Figured I'd drop a quick line in the OT. i dropped out of the hobby scenes for the most part when i lost my full time position and benefits. My brain does that. I can't enjoy hobbies when real life circumstances take a sevre turn to the front seat so yeah, I lurked here and there but for the most part had to put things on hold. With that said. I start my new job mid-august so it's going to be a few weeks before my mind settles back into hobby mode. I put it on hold while i worked diligently to find new employment opportunities. Sorry for the sudden drop off. Hope to be back in the swing of things soon. I have a long list of TI projects including at least one new game and one new TiPi related game. And Zombi has been bugging me for a makeover and change in scope sooooooo. yeah.

Quick question - I'm on the DSR just before this one: tipi-dsr.zip - TIPI DSR ROM - 32k binary EPROM image (2018-06-23). Fix compatibility with Geneve in ROMPAGE mode. Removes 4A boot chime. I don't have a Geneve so not imperative to update correct? Just looking to save myself some work. Things are coming together for me so i am going to be easing back in slowly. Have a lot of catching up to do. I see so many changes to TiPi uses (new games and Chatti stuff and whatnot) that I feel lost at the moment.

Tunnels of Doom is my favorite game is all time on the TI. It and PARSEC are the two games I vividly recall playing when I was younger. I can't think of anything to tell you to try on a stock ToD but I will challenge you to give Shift 838's custom ToD adventures a try. http://shift838.wixsite.com/shift838/ti-994a-software

I'm very interested in this endeavor of yours. I have only one issue tho'. videos showing off the working system without an in depth explanation/tutorial on how to get from point A (not having this kind of setup) to point B, step by step. It's selfish I know. But I'm kind of limited right now on spare time and I choose to play the game of the month competition when I am too burned out to do anything else. So a hand held guide would be a god send. If things go as well as i hope hey will go, I'll have an update on my current situation and the outcome within a few weeks. No worries, health is OK. Just being challenged with life circumstances a ATM.

OK. Here's my latest - Broke free twice, don't know what level i made it to after that - screen changed to high score screen too quickly. With it taking a little over an hour to get here - it's going to be a little bit before my next play session. EDIT:Real Iron w/SlikStik -
