High Score Competition (March: The Mine)
jwild replied to arcadeshopper's topic in TI-99/4A Computers
Game in progress at 404050. Cartridge on real iron. Taking advantage of pause. Good thing I took a picture. System crashed to F18 screen when I tried to resume. Not sure if I’ll try to beat that score... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Oh the music! Made me avoid this one... but since I’m stuck at home... cartridge version on real iron. I also played the disk version. Much easier. Too easy. Thanks for the cool videos, Pixel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I just played my purple label version. Same thing. I had never noticed either!

Here is another issue/feature/bug. When closing a box where there is just one space between two other existing boxes, the player get stuck and cannot close the box. a second or two later, the player dies. Hard to describe, so I attached a screen shot. I have tried to close the box by drawing a line in row 3 between boxes that are bordered by lines in row 2 and 4. very easy to recreate. let me know if you have questions. also let me know if you don't want more feedback.

I can reproduce the issue by continuing to move in one direction to finish the box as well. I don't think it is just when retracting right before the area is filled.

Globeron is back! Look out everyone! -
It may seem like I don't have anything else going on in my life....but today is Friday and I had to jump right on testing this new release. I gave this release about 5 plays. It appears the ending of a level with the "split tix" message even when there is only one tix has been fixed. I did discover a new issue where i can trap a single tix inside a box, but the level does not end. i can go around the map and make other boxes and the level will end once i've captured enough area. in the meantime, the tix bounces around inside the box i drew around it.

And repeat the same games over and over again? Sounds limiting to me. I like new glorious fights. -

I like your idea. Here is the current "Championship" for TI games - most recently recorded 12 months: -
It's the least I can do. I'm getting hours and hours of entertainment playing your games!

4. sometimes when completing a box (and not capturing a tix), the game thinks the level has ended and goes to the "split tix" screen and increments the score multiplier.

Great game Rasmus. I've been playing a little bit and have three observations so far. 1. I think this has been mentioned before, but sometimes I can draw a box and the inside doesn't fill blue or orange. stays black perhaps because I didn't go far enough to close it? even though the screen appears to be a closed box. also when this happens, the player can go inside the box and die. 2. frequently when finishing a screen with (as far as i can tell) there is only one TIX on the screen, it awards me with "split tix" and increments the score multiplier. 3. after doing this several times, the multiplier will grow to 7, 8, 9, and then shows other characters as the multiplier (not 10, 11, 12, etc.) i really like the feel of the game. thank you.

One more thing - to aid in my fun factor for the month, I'm not bowing out of the competition as was suggested earlier. I am not going to pass on playing Rasmus' latest game. However, if I do end up getting the high score, I will award the prize (and the selection of next month's game) to the runner up. If you haven't played with an Arduino before, you're in for a treat. I know most of you would be interested in this prize, and if you are not, please give it to a young student with interest in making. -

To incentivize more people playing this game, there will be a prize. The winner of this contest will receive an Arduino Starter Set similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/ELEGOO-Project-Tutorial-Controller-Projects/dp/B01D8KOZF4/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=arduino+starter+kit&qid=1578775830&sr=8-4 Good luck. -

********************************************************************************* ********************************************************************************* ********************************************************************************* TI-99/4A High Score Challenge Month: January 2020 Game: TIX, by @Asmusr I used to like QIX in the arcade. I remember the game being really hard requiring the player to balance greed and being too conservative. Please see this thread for more information on the development of TIX. Latest files as of 1/9/20 are attached. tix.dsk tix.rpk tix8.bin -

I'm trying to export map data from Magellan in order to help make an Extended Basic game. Just playing with the tools right now. I'm using version 3.3.1. I created some simple characters and tested exporting them (128-143): I exported them as basic data and this seems fine: I exported as basic program. Also seems fine: Now extended basic program. Also seems fine: same with xb256 program: Next test was to create a screen using some normal characters and some of the characters I created: Then tested exporting basic data: The bottom of the screen looks right with all the custom characters (128-143). I can also see some other custom characters in the data above. But the majority of the screen data is "32" (space). I don't see any of the "A" or "B" or other normal characters in this data. Then tried exporting as basic program: I don't see any of the characters on the left or right side of the screen (columns 1,2, 31, 32). I think this is because PRINT can't write there. The "Optional" DATA looks good: And of course in Classic99: Now export XB program: This looks similar to the basic data above. The bottom of the screen looks right with all the custom characters (128-143). I can also see some other custom characters in the data above. But the majority of the screen data is "32" (space). I don't see any of the "A" or "B" or other normal characters in this data. Now in Classic 99 (XB): A big black screen. Breaking the program: Suspecting an issue with this line: and changing the "1" (transparent) to "4" (light green) rerunning it in Classic 99: I can see it now, but it's missing those "A" and "B" and "$" etc. That's all for now. Thanks for reading.
