In this new artwork I love the introduction of contextual elements that "explain" what happens in the game.

For instance, it shows that the action is happening at night.

I guess that makes sense, as the background color in the game is black 🙂

Also I love that Snakebirds look sinister and supernatural with their glowing eyes.

I can see from the picture that they hang out in power lines along the railroad.

Maybe they sit there watching the train pass and some of them decide to fly over it? I never thought of that 🙂

Oh and I also like the color contrast shown on the main character... His face illuminated by the light coming from inside the train, and the back illuminated by the moonlight.

    Very cool!

I just couldn't figure out the black things on the bottom left... like 3 back dots or something, are those intended to illustrate some kind of handle or hatch?

    Stoptheexpressintellivisionbox.thumb.png.65b7f661deb612d5ac65099590ba8fb1.png

The 3 small balck "things" are feathers. They're hard to see because the image is resized.

The artist has really done a great job on this illustration, the lighting is very well worked and the details well thought out.

For what it is worth, here is the snakebird status on all the other releases:

MSX Kuma: Reused the Hudson Soft artwork

MSX Honeybee Soft and Aackosoft: Both cheated and printed screenshots instead of cover artwork

MSX Sony: Another normal looking bird (might have existed for Sony SMC computers too)

    Sharp X1: Another screenshot story

Commodore 64: Left out the bird entirely

I didn't find any cover art for the Hitachi S1.

It leaves us with one release out of the original 9 to have a proper snakebird, namely Sinclair's release for the ZX Spectrum:

    8922822-stop-the-express-zx-spectrum-fro

Yay, Europe! (if you count the UK as part of Europe)

The box of the S1 shows no birds. Here's an advert for the game which uses the illustration on the box:

  3. Hello everyone.

We're super mega proud to present our first Vectrex game: Vectral.

Some of you may know us as publishers of games for ColecoVision, Intellivision and MSX among others, but we've long wanted to publish on the great Vecvtrex machine.

    So here's Vectral, a compilation featuring Honey + Nuka Bomb + Wireout-RE 2X.

  4. Hello Everyone.

We don't often post on this part of the forum, but it's time to change that ^^.

We're publishing a new game for MSX: Rabbit Adventure.
The game is published in a traditional version by Côté Gamers, with a large box and instructions.

For those who don't know us, we have other games still in stock (some are almost sold out, like La Reliquia).

You'll find an overview on this page:https://cotegamers.com/shop/en/35-msxmsx2

    Hi, @tanuki,

I should have been more clear that my comment, although flippant, was not really directed at you.  As you may have noticed around this entire forum, there have been some publishers who have complained about the dwindling sales numbers, while simultaneously raising prices, or re-issuing variants of already published titles.

I appreciate that you have not been one of these, yet my comment was in response to Rev's post on that particular point.  So, I apologize for hijacking the thread in that way.

All that being said, I want to be clear that I think you and your team at Côté Games are doing great work -- that your efforts in bringing unique games to the community and focusing on high-quality productions and unique offerings, are well appreciated by many in this community, myself included.

Games like Norseman and Maria are very much welcomed and a great addition to a canon already overstuffed with arcade ports and other standard fare.

As for these re-issues, you of course should do as you please.  However, you should consider that, although your intentions may be honorable in trying to provide an alternative to your fans who love your particular production style; this community is made mostly of collectors, more than gamers.  Therefore, such offers may give the impression of some sort of "money grab" intended to induce collectors into purchasing yet another variant of a published game.

To be sure, I personally do not believe this in the least, but others might, especially outsiders.  Of course, it's up to you to decide how to manage your own image.

All that said, I look forward to more great products from Côté Games. :)

          -dZ.

Don't worry. We haven't taken anyone's remarks as an attack. We're all having a friendly discussion.

To be sure, I think you, me, and maybe a couple others, have inadvertently hijacked this thread.  Tanuki does not seem to have asked for general feedback.  Looking back, his request was quite specific:

I suppose that "none" is a valid response to that question, but I imagine that any of us that are not interested in re-issued games from Côté Games could just as easily ignore this thread entirely, since the question wasn't directed at us.

       -dZ.

The answers provided are already an answer. In all honesty, since we'd been asked several times for CG versions of games that had already been released, we thought we'd please people and please US at the same time. We'll see after the release of these games if the community is against them. If so, we won't try again.

Thats seems to be the only way to show that collectors (which is who you are proposing these re-hashed games to) do not want to pay for the same games in different boxes.

I'm not sure we're targeting hardcore collectors. We can also reach some people who didn't like the original editions, for example. But the bulk of the audience remains fans of our packaging.

We also make new games, as demonstrated by norseman 2 which will be released soon, our board game and other projects still to come.

No, you alone wont collapse the Inty scene. But, if 3 or 4 producers start reissueing games,.. it just hurts the hobby (again.. in my opinion). This has been going on for a few years now and its driven people to stop collecting the games and move towards emulators, or stopping all together. I know this to be true because i talk to collectors all of the time about this exact subject.

    You mention an interesting point.

Since its beginnings, Côté Gamers has published what it likes. We don't care what people think, whether it's about mainstream topics or how much money it's going to make. We do our best to produce quality, while pleasing our team and our fans. That said, it's true that if everyone starts selling reissues, the market could be turned upside down.

I'm wondering: if there's not room for re-issues then isn't new original homebrew also a huge risk?

I think ports of popular classic titles and god tier developers would take up most of the market.

    Interesting point too.

And if no one buys the reissues, this market will simply cease, I think.

Like 5 resellers are fighting to (re)sell the same 4 games.   The amazing part is how they all agreed to share the same sales market.

What a time to be alive!!!!

If you look at our offer, we're offering 20 copies of each game. There's no question of Côté Gamers making money with so few copies.

    15 hours ago, DZ-Jay said:

And yet they complain about the dwindling number of units sold.  We live in strange times ...

Read our answer above. We're not looking for any profit or market share. We think these games are cool, and we're big enough fans of the Intellivision to want to offer our own packaging. It's a way of saying "wow, we've also contributed a little to the publication of these games".

4 hours ago, Psycho Stormtrooper- Rog said:

Why would you reissue any game?

I mean, other than money. I think you would do better with new games, not just a new box & manual.

    Thats just my opinion.

Read the answer above ^^. Anyone who thinks that publishing 20 copies, investing time and money in illustrations, notices, overlays, then making packages, tracking etc...makes money, is thinking wrong!

Do you have pics of what they'll look like? Cost?

Not for the moment, but Wolfy62 is right. Theses games will have big boxes with special overlays, poster and cards.

17 hours ago, Steve Jones said:

Arent these games all still available, from several resellers?

Yes they are, but we're publishing these 20 copies to please our fans, nothing more. We understand that not everyone is interested. The aim is not to sell large quantities.

Runaway Train = Stop the Express?

    yes

I'm guessing that your packaging means in your big box style with an assortment of other goodies like cards and little figures.

As far as what games we would like to see you repackage, what games do you have the rights to repackage that can be possibilities?

I personally am not in a great financial spot to repurchase already existing games in another form, plus I am not a serious variant collector myself.

That being said, pretty sure you can find at least 20 buyers of those games in the big box style!

    That's it.

  10. Hello everyone.

We'll soon distribute Rick Dynamite, Runaway Train and Cavern of Mars for Intellivision, in our own packaging.

We'll show you the boxes soon. These games will be limited to 20 copies initially, and if another 20 or more people want them before a certain date, we'll do a 2nd set. It's really a question of pleasing Côté Gamers fans and allowing them to have certain games in our packaging.

But I have a question for the fans: which games would you like us to reissue in our packaging?
