The Official NEO-GEO Thread!
INTVCruise replied to Charlie Cat's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hey friends, can you guys give me a second opinion on some mvs cartridges, just wanting to double check that they appear legit before purchasing them. The ones I'm after are the blue metal slug x, neo geo cup 98, spin master (which i'm pretty sure is a bootleg), samurai showdown iii and shcok troopers 2nd squad (the black copy). I checked the site with the mvs labels and they looked good to me but im no expert, is a blue shell normal for metal slug x? Checked those 5 on ebay and seems like what the seller told me lines up, all legit excet for spin master. Also if anyone sees any gems in the lot le me know. Thanks! -
Hello everyone, looking for some loose hu-card games again, specifically I'm looking for Dungeon Explorer (If this one has the case and manual that's fine), Blazing Lazers (loose preferred),and Nuetopia II (loose preferred). If you have any other games your looking to sell too I'd be more than happy to look. Thanks everyone.

I see, yeah I took the picture after I disconnected the little header so I could try and get a clearer picture. It looks like it's offset by one pin but the header was in the correct orientation the whole time. It must be a problem with the chips you suggested then since before I fixed the wire and properly attached the connector the drive activity was the same, not able to properly load the game. I do have three total drives, 1 I opened was very different from the mechanism in the broken drive, I'll have to take a look at the other two and see if they are similar. Is it okay to swap chips into the bad drive to see which one may be failing or is there a risk of burning out a good chip by doing so?

Thank you Nezgar for the info, quick question, that little red cable that was disconnected when I initially opened the drive, what does that control? Does that have anything to do with the way the drive is controlled, or is the main issue possibly with the Ram as you suggested.

Hey everyone, I just got an Atari 1050 Drive thrown in with a 800XL computer. The computer works just fine, tested it with a working drive, no problems at all. The non-working drive though is super finnicky and I have no real clue what may be wrong with it. It seems to have multiple problems though. About every other power up the drive head does not seek the 0 position at all. Basically the drive either does not spin with the disk inserted, or if the disk is inserted and it does seek, it finds the zero position and continuously spins. Sometimes I can power up 5 or 6 times in a row before the drive responds at all. Most of the time the computer does not seem to recognize it at all as it displays the ready prompt. Maybe every 10th or so power up, the drive will be recognized and the beeping noise when the computer talks to the drive starts going. The disk I'm testing is with is Galahad: Quest for the Holy Grail. If the drive and computer do manage to communicate the Quest for the Holy Grail start up screen comes up. With the cover off I can see the drive head clicking up one spot as it seeks out the tracks. After about 5-15 clicks though it stops seeking and the game doesn't load. Most of the time the screen makes like a fart noise when it fails to read/load the game. One time, it did actually manage to make about 30 clicks or so and the game actually booted to the field with the little church, but the drive didn't stop spinning ever, I had to shut it off after about a minute or so. It only ever fully booted that one time and probably 100 power ups. I did clean the head and that seemed to do nothing at all. When I looked at the underside of the drive mechanism I did notice a problem that was obvious. The red cable on the connector that connects to the front of the board was severed somehow. I re-attached it with some solder and used a multimeter to check the continuity. It seemed like the connection was made once again, but there was no change in the activity of the drive at all. If anyone has any ideas on how to trouble shoot let me know. I included a before picture of the red wire that I'm talking about as well. Also forgot to add, none of the caps seem to be bulging. Thanks to all!

He lives in Mexico, which makes sense based on the info TGB posted, unfortunately I don't think there are too many Atari 400's in Mexico so I'll probably just have to wait to pick it up from him. Looking at the screenshot on the website it looks like its just a utility cart in Spanish.

Hello everyone, my cousin just found a copy of this and other than a 400/800 cart shell he doesn't know what it is. He doesn't have Atari computer to try it on, my question is, is it just a pirate cartridge or did someone just stick a random piece of paper on a game cart. Thank you.

Hello everyone, not sure where to post this, but I thought this might be the best spot. I just got my original Magnavox odyssey out yesterday and today to mess around with it and now it is not working all of a sudden. Had some very minor problems yesterday, but all in all there was a picture on the screen and I was able to play game card 1 for the most part. Today I plugged in an Atari 2600 adapter in the back using a small converter for external power to save on batteries and couldn't get a signal to come onto the television. So I switched to using the c-batteries for the bottom battery port putting, removing the external power before putting them back in but had the same problem, so I removed the cover of the console and plugged in the game card 1 and still nothing. Removed the card and for some reason I just tried gently putting in the game card and the game came on the screen. Wiggling the card very very gently on the screen got the net to come down and spawned players 1 and 2 and the ball, but the console would "shut off" and the picture would go away. When I say wiggling I mean just resting the card at the edge of the cartridge slot and if it wasn't placed on the very edge of the connector the odyssey couldn't read it essentially. Even trying to push it in a little caused the console to "shut off". I was wondering if someone has experience with these console and could help me figure out what is going on or if some small electronic part failed or something like that. The picture was working great yesterday with the card fully inserted and now nothing. I opened up the console and reflowed the cartridge slot but there is 0 improvement. Hopefully me explanation makes sense, any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

I ended up just returning it to the store actually. I did try all of the tricks like getting it centered in the game slot etc, even 3 different Atari 5200 consoles and all gave the same error in the exact same spot.

Hello everyone, looking for a cart only copy of Prince of Persia for the Nes, looking to pay 25$ for a good condition one. Just looking for the cart, no manual box. Thank you!

I did try cleaning it a handful of times and inserting it without the cartridge shell as far as it would go but the corruption is still the same on those two screens. Could cleaning it some more fix it you think. I do know that every activision game on the 5200 I have does take multiple times to get it to read but this one doesn't seem to change at all other than sometimes the corrupted graphics flicker but don't correct themselves.

I did just manage to open it up without damaging the label, tried reflowing all of the solder points to see if there was a cold solder joint and check continuity for all traces but seems like the rom chip is the problem as it behaves in the exact same manner.

Hello everyone, I've read that Pitfall I has some problems on 2 port 5200 consoles but wasn't sure about the second game. I have a copy of Pitfall II that has a glitched enemy on the second screen and glitched water and rocks on the 3rd screen. The rest of the game seems to be fine after that other than the game crashes quite a bit randomly to a black screen while the music keeps playing. It never happens in the same spot, sometimes a few seconds after turning the consoles on, sometimes after 1 minute. Does anyone know if the game has issues running on 2 port 5200's? I've tried two Atari 5200's and both have the exact same issue. Here are some pictures of what happens...

Hi, you might have good luck finding one for sale in the coleco adam facebook group, they pop up pretty often there in good shape and tested.
-
Bump. Still looking, looking for other carts besides AvP, Wolfenstein and Checkered Flag. Feel free to pm a list.

Perfect thank you, i'll be on the look out for your pm.

Hello everyone, just got a working jaguar with a controller but only have 1 game for it: Checkered Flag, which looks and plays terrible haha. If anyone has any loose games they are willing to sell I would be interested in looking at that. I would really like a copy of Alien vs. Predator if anyone is willing to part with one. Condition doesn't really matter to much to me. Thanks!

I think I've read somewhere on the old nintendoage website that chiller carts like to go bad for some reason, it could be that it just need s a cleaning but I think I specifically remember reading about chiller carts failing, but can't remember why. Hopefully you can get it working though!

I'm pretty sure thats exactly how Ghostbusters loads. I have a copy that starts to load then makes that clickly head banging noise like when you have a bad disk, then a few minutes of reading and it happens a second time but the game comes up and plays just fine no errors. I think your drive is probably fine atleast on ghostbusters.
