  1. Yeah, thanks for the heads up! I used to subscribe off and on. But, I didn't really get into it until around 1990, so I missed the majority of this stuff. It'll be great to wade through all of it when I finally get done downloading these. Anyway, this got me to thinking about how CGW had a Hall of Fame of games. I stumbled across a link to a list from 2005: The CGW Hall of Fame Computer Gaming World, May, 2005 PEOPLE Dani Bunten Berry, Game Designer Jon Van Caneghem, Game Designer John Carmack, Programmer Richard Garriott, Game Designer Ron Gilbert, Programmer, Game Designer Sid Meier, Game Designer Roberta Williams, Game Designer Will Wright, Game Designer GAMES Alone in the Dark (I-Motion, 1992) Age of Empires (Microsoft, 1997) Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn (Interplay, 2001) The Bard’s Tale (EA, 1985) Battle Chess (Interplay, 1988) Battleground series (TalonSoft, 1995–present) Betrayal at Krondor (Dynamix, 1993) Chessmaster (Software Toolworks, 1986) Civilization (MicroProse, 1991) Command & Conquer (Virgin/Westwood Studios, 1995) Counter-Strike (Mod, 1999) Crusader: No Remorse (Origin, 1995) Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight (LucasArts, 1999) Day of the Tentacle (LucasArts, 1993) Diablo (Blizzard, 1997) Doom (Id Software, 1993) Dungeon Master (FTL Software, 1987) Earl Weaver Baseball (EA, 1986) Empire (Interstel, 1978) EverQuest (Sony Online, 1999) F-19 Stealth Fighter (MicroProse, 1988) Falcon 3.0 (Spectrum HoloByte, 1991) Fallout (Interplay, 1997) Front Page Sports: Football Pro (Dynamix, 1993) Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within (Sierra, 1996) Gettysburg: The Turning Point (SSI, 1986) Grim Fandango (LucasArts, 1999) Gunship (MicroProse, 1986) Half-Life (Valve Software, 1999) Harpoon (360 Pacific, 1989) Heroes of Might and Magic II (New World Computing, 1997) High Heat Baseball 2000 (3DO, 1999) John Madden NFL Football series (Electronic Arts, 1988) Kampfgruppe (SSI, 1985) King’s Quest V (Sierra On-Line, 1990) Lemmings (Psygnosis, 1991) Links 386 Pro (Access Software, 1992) M-1 Tank Platoon (MicroProse, 1989) Master of Magic (MicroProse, 1994) Master of Orion (MicroProse, 1993) Medieval: Total War (Activision, 1987) Mech Brigade (SSI, 1985) MechWarrior 2 (Activision, 1995) Might and Magic (New World Computing, 1986) M.U.L.E. I was also sad to hear that November 2006 is the final issue. I had not checked out an issue for at least 4 years, but it was great back in the day.
  2. I for one appreciate the bump. Thanks for the information. I will certainly take the time to check this out. It's been some time since I played anything on Visual Pinball. Much too long. Thanks for giving me an excuse and reminder.
  3. Very interesting. I'm not really interested in the current stuff, but I would be curious to know what you may have worked on in the past. Willing to share any specific titles? Any amusing anecdotes?
  4. Hey...nice looking photo. I'm proud of you. Though, I would recommend trying to find a way to sue them.
  5. I remember Law of the West from my cousin's house when I was much younger. I recall it being very good. Pirates and Wasteland were some of my PC favorites. I did get a pretty large assortment of games, but I crave more. Anyone selling some compilation disks or know where I could find something like that? Law of the West and Friday the 13th (I need to go after Jason in his black t-shirt again) are two games that I really need. I also would like the C64 version of Lode Runner. Of course the more games the better. Impossible Mission, too! And speaking of load times, I thought Ghostbusters was never going to load this afternoon. I forgot that some games took quite so long.
  6. The monitor sounds like the same one I have in my room, hooked up to a VCR -- the CM-141. The dials are brightness and volume, while the power switch is a round button about the same size as those dials but on the left side, bottom front of the cabinet. It accepts either Commodore's Luma/Chroma/Audio or standard Composite/Audio inputs, selected by a slide switch, using 5 RCA jacks on the back. If you plan to use it a lot, I would remove the smoke-colored glare filter (if this doesn't give you too much glare), and turn down the brightness. I didn't do this on mine, so it has a noticeable amount of screen burn down the left side. Of course, if it's already burned, doing this won't help it. Regarding controllers, any joysticks that work with the Atari 2600/7800 (and several other machines of the era) will work on the C-64. Just use what you like. Commodore's paddle controllers used a different resistance value than Atari's, but AFAIK paddle games were almost nonexistent on the C-64. That is exactly the monitor that I received. I think it will work out quite nicely. As far as the controller? I just used a spare 7800 controller and I think that will be fine.
  7. It uses the same joysticks as the Atari 2600 and 8-bit computers, so if you already have a favourite there, just use it. My personal favourites are the TAC-2, the Slik Stik, the Epyx 500XJ, The Boss, and the Wico bat-handle. Depends on what type of game, really. Sounds like the 1802, which is my least favourite of the Commodore monitors. You're right that it is more rare. I find the picture relatively dark and muddy compared to the 1701/1702 (my favourite for the C-64) or the 1084 or 1902. For a start, you'd do well to check out the Lemon64 Top 100 list based on user votes. Not a bad game on the list, imo. Lemon64 also has an excellent forum if you want to find more C64 fans. Thanks for the info. I'll check out that list. Also, I think he has a C64 compatible printer to give me, as well. Is there really any reason that I should hang onto it, gaming wise? That's all I really plan to use it for, honestly.
  8. Okay, so if all goes well, I should have a C64 tomorrow. There are no joysticks or controllers with the unit, however. I was just wondering if any of you had any opinions as to what the best joystick or controller for the C64 would be? Also, the monitor for this one is different than any C64 monitor that I've ever seen. It certainly is not the most common version. I'm not sure what the model number is, but it is in a dark brown case with a removable plexiglass cover over the screen. At the bottom left is the Commodore logo and the bottom right feature two large function dials, if I recall correctly. Anyone know what I'm talking about? And of course, what are the best games that I should be looking for?
  9. I managed to find all of the game that I was looking for. Please feel free to delete or lock this topic. Thank you.
  10. Okay, so I'm considering picking up Morrowind for Xbox. Can anyone explain what the essential differences are? I heard about some fatal bugs in the GOTY Edition. Is this true? For fans of the games, which would you recommend?
  11. Actually, that would be incredible. Give me a buzz when you decide to go. We can take over the whole store with classic gaming machines.
  12. YES! I'm glad someone decided to take the splash. You've got to let me know how this is. I would love to get one of these, as well. Well...as long as the quality is decent...
  13. Well...this certainly has taken a bizarre turn...
  14. X-Men for the NES is a disgrace. I loathe it. I do enjoy Friday the 13th, however.
  15. I was in Best Buy today and they had this for $9.99. Just a heads up for others who may have been holding off on picking this up. I didn't really want to pay $30, but I didn't balk at paying $10. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it's worth $10. It doesn't look to be the best of these compilations game-wise, as there are not many that I played religiously growing up, but I'm sure there are a few gems. And what the hell is with Best Buy trying to sell replacement plans for game discs, now? Jesus! Will you just leave me alone?
  16. This is mainly what I was concerned about. Doesn't sound too bad, though. Emulators shouldn't be too much of a problem as I've been using those since I discovered Nesticle when it was in its infancy. I think it would be easiest to simply get a card reader. I didn't realize that they were so inexpensive.
  17. Many, many thanks to Ze_ro and Shannon for that wealth of information. I really do appreciate it. I will definitely be looking into picking one of these up in a month or two. One more question. How is the setup? Is it a real hassle to deal with? Or is it fairly straitforward and simple to use?
  18. Okay, systems that were purchased with particular games in mind? NES - Super Mario Bros. Sega Genesis - X-Men SNES - Super Star Wars PlayStation - WCW Nitro/WWF War Zone (Hey, it was the peak of the Monday night wrestling wars!) N64 - WCW Revenge/WWF WrestleMania 2000 (See above. Actually, wrestling games were all that I had for the N64 until last year.) PS2 - Madden 2001 GameCube - Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters - Melee (Absolutely had to have this, though I like the sequel more because I can play as Jet Jaguar!) The other systems that I have were purchased with no particular games in mind. I just wanted the console.
  19. Okay, so what are the best sites for homebrew and emulation info for the GP2X? I checked Zophar, but it looks like it's been quite some time since that's been updated. I'm just a bit hesitant to drop the cash for this sucker. It just seems much too good to be true. My only handheld emulation experience was with a GBA flash cart, and it was a bit disappointing. What systems are emulated well? And how well for that matter? How is MAME and up to what era of MAME games can this little guy handle? And most importantly, did it live up to your expectations? Any disappointment, other than SNES emulation not being up to snuff as of yet? I want to try this very badly. I just don't want to get burned.
  20. 179.99 is the price on there website, but you can problibly find it for less somewhere. Wow! That's not really bad at all from what I'm hearing you can do with it. How about the quality of the screen?
  21. How much would I have to shell out to get one of these bad boys?
  22. Okay, so I would just be curious to take a look at a compatibility list. I don't really plan on getting a 360, but with the price of the PS3 being roughly $9000, I may consider it...someday. Anyone have a list?
  23. Yeah, I did buy a replacement battery. That is the one that was not working. Anyway, it appears that it was just a bad new battery. I went and got another one and it seems to be fine. Thanks for your input, though.
  24. The built-in memory backup on my Saturn seems to have failed. I thought that all I would have to do would be to replace the battery in that back slot, but it didn't help. Well, it looked like it was working. I turned it off and it did not ask me for the correct time and date. So I thought it was going to be fine. I played for a while and saved and then went to play again today and it's all gone. Am I doing something wrong? I used the same battery type. Just a bad battery?
  25. I like several of the X-Men games, being an X-Men fan ever since I can remember, really. Back in the days when Chris Claremont was writing the comic. The Konami arcade beat 'em up was like a dream come true when I saw it. My friend and I played it for hours at a time. I used to try to figure out the maddening puzzles and play control in the old Madness in Murderworld PC game from Paragon Software, but X-Men 2 for the PC was the more solid game. I bought a Sega Genesis when they released the first X-Men game for that system. It was really the first major purchase in my life as a kid. X-Men 2: Clone Wars for the Genesis is one of the best games on that system, in my opinion. Wolverine: Adamantium Rage was okay, though I may hate it if I try to play it again. And most of the other X-Men related games suck. X-Men Legends is pretty damn good, though. One of the best. Sort of like the PC game Freedom Force, but with X-Men characters. I just bought the sequel for $20. Looking forward to diving in to that one.
