Oh yeah, and it's not like the Game & Watch type or the later Tiger handhelds with charaters. It's just like a black box with red lights.

Anyone know anything about classic handheld games? Like from the early '80s or late '70s? I think I'm looking for one called "Sub Wars". Someone I know used to have one, and it would be cool to get a replacement for them.

Unfortunately no, not to my knowledge. There are hacks for emulators, but the catridge-based homebrew scene for the NES has yet to take off. Here's hoping some people out there have some projects coming soon...

Tonight I Scored 925,100 on Donkey Kong Jr.
zombiecraig replied to hepcat's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Well, I assumed it could be MAME 32, but I had never seen that option. Sorry for being such a dope, but it's my day off and I just woke up. There's my excuse. I'm interested in checking this out. I've always been terrible when it comes to Donkey Kong Jr., so I'm looking for some tips! -

Sorry, but what program do I need to run this file? -
I can't seem to find a very good site that features custom tables for Visual Pinball/VPinMAME. I would really like to try out some home made tables, though the arcade convertions are fantastic for the most part.

My brother is looking for a way to rip music from PlayStation games. Does anyone know how one would go about doing that?

I rented it for free. I must say that it wasn't even worth that. And I love classic wrestling. And 80's wrestling.

No Punch-Out!! or Tecmo Super Bowl? I'll probably be taking a pass. -
I still have Kingdom of Kroz and maybe one other one around here somewhere. Maybe you could use a program like MOSLO to slow them down. I honestly don't think I've tried Moslo on XP.

ESPN Fottball 2k5 - 20 bucks and a masterpiece
zombiecraig replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I would say that I'm a Madden loyalist, as I purchase that game every year. I had not played this series since its days on the Dreamcast (I have NFL 2K, NFL 2K1 and NFL 2K2. All purchased on the cheap, as I was late in getting a Dreamcast). I was never a huge fan of those Dreamcast games, though I no longer recall why. When I popped in this new ESPN NFL 2K5 (Xbox), I was stunned. The presentation is incredible! The menus and general ESPN feel to everything is really great. And some of the options are great, like the stadium music feature (though I feel that when you play an away game and they have the same music that you do at your stadium is a bit of a flaw), are really thoughtful additions. And the gameplay LOOKS great! The field, the uniforms, the player faces, all great. But the gameplay suffers a bit. It seems, after playing around 7 games, to be too much of an "arcade" style. Now, I haven't messed around with the sliders much yet, because you can lose credits for bonus unlockable purchases if you do, but this game just doesn't feel quite as realistic to me as Madden. And there was a bug that really pissed me off. During a run there was a penalty, and my HB was given 30 negative rushing yards somehow. Things like that make me wish they would have waited to release this for a few extra weeks of play testing. I haven't gone online with it yet, so we'll see how that goes. And then we'll see how it compares to Madden 2005 when it is released in a few weeks. ESPN NFL 2K5 has some great features, and at $20 it is one hell of a deal, but I'm not sure if they can win me over unless EA really botches up Madden this year, which with much less competition than usual is possible. -
Best Genesis baseball games?
zombiecraig replied to zombiecraig's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Okay, so I got RBI '93 for 42 cents the other day with the box and everything. That was nice. It's a pretty decent game. I'll try to track down some others as well. Are those later Triple Play Genesis games any good? -
What is the best baseball game for the Genesis? I enjoy the World Series Baseball series pretty well (I only have one of them, '95 I think). Are any others worth owning? I liked the RBI Baseball games on the NES, but are the Genesis versions decent? And what about the EA games?

Anyone know where to buy this besides ebay?

You can get that cable at this site: http://www.sega-parts.com/products/genesis-prices.htm Pretty pricey, though. Good luck! -
Rare or hard (or fun to play) PS2 games
zombiecraig replied to YOK-dfa's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I really like Victorious Boxers. It's not weird or anything, but I think it's a great boxing title. I believe it's not really a very easy game to find. I haven't come across it all that often, but was lucky enough to pick it up when it first came out a few years back. Great anime style, story based boxing game. -
Does anyone have any recommendations on what is the best version of Quake available for consoles? And do they compare at all to the PC version? Any glaring differences?

Okay, to make things even more confusing, mine is a model 1601 also. The serial number on it is 120337221 if that helps date it's release or anything.

The dongle was just sort of an adapter. It's similar in size to one of the Famicom to NES adapters that you can find in some original Nintendo NES carts. When you attach it to the expansion port, you actually cannot close the cover again, if I remember correctly. I would post a picture of it, but like I said, I gave it to my brother. I'll see if I can get him to take a picture of it.

That's very odd... I've never had any problem using the 32X without the dongle on my Genesis 2... Is your Genesis one of the early, "High Definition Graphics" models that plays the locked-out Electronic Arts games? --Zero Hey, I don't know what is going on with mine? My Genesis is not from the original run with Altered Beast as the pack-in. Mine is the original model (case style anyway) that was packed with Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm not sure what the model number is and it's all connected to the Sega CD and 32X, so I'd rather not check right now. All I know is that both 32X units that I purchased new in box would not work without the dongle. One 32X unit did not come with the dongle and made no mention of it in the instructions, which I found to be very odd after I bought the second new in box 32X that did include the dongle and tell you what to do with it. And it wasn't that one of the 32X units was defective. Neither would work on my Genesis without the dongle, and both worked on it with the dongle. Anyway, since I got the front-loading Sega CD unit, I no longer use the dongle. I gave the spare 32X unit and the dongle to my brother, and he uses it with an original case style Genesis as well. As I recall, he also HAD to use the dongle to get the 32X to work. This is all very strange. I wish someone had the answer to this mystery. Why were some 32X units shipped with the dongle and others not? I do recall that the non-dongle 32X that I purchased first did not have a pack-in game. The second 32X unit with the dongle included a copy of Star Wars Arcade. So it would seem possible that during the original 32X run there was a problem with some of the units being incompatible with certain Genesis models. Then during the next run, which included Star Wars Arcade as a pack-in, Sega corrected that problem by including the dongle to attach to the expansion port. There's logical thinking of the highest degree, folks! Maybe I will check the model number later...

Actually, in my experience, if you don't have the "expansion port dongle" you could be in big trouble. I got the 32X before I got the Sega CD and tried to use it with my Genesis with no luck whatsoever. I have the original model Genesis (I don't know if the second model is affected) and did not have the "expansion port dongle" with the 32X that I purchased supposedly "new in box". I didn't recall seeing anything in the instructions about the "dongle", so I just assumed it was faulty and I would use it for parts. I purchased another 32X for around $15 also "new in box" and this time the "expansion port dongle" was there. So I was like, OH! Hooked everything up and presto! 32X gaming was now available on my Genesis. Now like I said, I'm not sure if the second Genesis model was affected, but the original Genesis requires the "dongle" for 32X support if you do not have a Sega CD connected to it. The "dongle" is the key to your salvation!

Wasn't Digital Press going to be a sponsor at one point also? What happened there? That's a little disappointing...
