  1. My 360 finally bit it tonight. No red rings, but it no longer outputs video. It had been acting up over the last month and finally went out this evening. I had a spare cable to check it, but nope, nothing.

I checked with Microsoft's website and it looks like my warranty expired long ago. 2007.

I can pay them $100 to have it repaired. But is that recommended? Will they just repair this system, or substitute a new one? I'm just concerned that if they repair this one and something else goes wrong, I'll have to pay another $100 due to no warranty. I had been considering upgrading to the larger HDD, anyway. Maybe I should just buy a new one?

    What are your opinions?

  2. Anyone take advantage of this offer? Pretty sure a form packed in w/ my new DSI allowed for a free trial issue. I got the Nov issue, but today got the invoice requiring payment ($19.95) for a full year...

    If anyone can help, LMK.

Just write cancel on the invoice and send it back. You should be fine. You just won't receive any further issues of Nintendo Power. Which is probably not such a terrible thing.

  3. I know this topic has been beaten to death, but I want some new opinions (hopefully). I am going to buy either the XBox 360 or the Playstation 3 slim. I am not concerned about backwards compatabilty. Please tell me which one is the better of the 2. I have a 52in. LCD tv and broadband. Thanks.

Well, it's certainly pretty subjective. My gut reaction is to say PS3. But I like many of the features of the 360, as well.

  4. if the jack is broken, the power supply may be good. the jack is attached to the backplate of the case, not to the power supply. should be easy to swap it out.

I'll have to take a look at that. I honestly haven't opened it all the way, yet.

    Thank you for the info!

Okay, I've got that removed. Any idea where I could get a replacement part for that?

    I'd appreciate any suggestions.

    Thank you!

  6. won't power up? got any blinking lights?

can't run emulators unless you go Linux.

    No lights. Nothing.

It appears to be completely dead.

Actually, upon further review, it looks like one of the prongs is broken off the back of the power supply. In theory, I may just be able to swap out the power supply? I mean, that is certainly a primary issue. I wonder if there are any other problems?

  7. I'm an NFL nut, so I feel compelled to purchase Madden year after year.

I have friends out of state that like to play online, otherwise, I would probably skip this year.

However, since the series made the jump to the current generation of consoles, I just don't like the series as much as I used to. Either, I tired of the formula, or they just don't seem to be quite as solid of products as they used to be, or perhaps a combination?

I really used to enjoy the single player franchise modes in the PS2 & Xbox era. I like the management aspect of developing players and whatnot. However that franchise modes on the current gen of consoles have sucked, so far. There always seems to be some portion of it that is essentially broken. Last year was player progression and maybe the draft, also. The draft worked, but the rookie selections were all out of sorts. It seemed like anyone in the league could get a new franchise QB in the first round, there were TONS of GREAT players to be had at certain positions. It was simply unrealistic. I think that was last year, but maybe it was the year before?

And Lord Helmet is right, once you get used to the CPU AI, you can generally blow them away pretty easily.

Lately, EA always seems to release it full of bugs and issues and then finally gets around to correcting a few of them with updates by the time the real season is about half over.

If you are hopelessly addicted to the NFL, you may enjoy it to some degree. If you're picky like me, you'll buy it and then just piss and moan about it later.

  8. I dunno, US Games had a few surprises. IMO, Entombed wasn't half bad, and Commando Raid was actually pretty good. Towering Inferno is decent, too. Granted they're not show stoppers (well, Commando Raid may be), but they're not the usual oatware from US Games.

    I like Entombed, also.

I'm actually also a fan of the paddle game, Piece O' Cake. However, that gets redundant fairly quickly.

  9. LOL

GH: Metallica had some damn good side bands. I actually discovered a few bands just playing the game like The Sword.

Speaking of Ministry, they should think about so more bands like that, maybe KMFDM or even Skinny Puppy.

But I think those bands may scare everyone away.

Ahhh...just played Aces High a few minutes ago.....

Rolling, turning, diving, going in again

Run, live to fly, fly to live, do or die....

    :music:

I've been hoping for some of the more classic guitar heavy KMFDM songs for some time. If they ever did get a pack, I'm afraid it would all be the more current stuff, which I'm not a huge fan of.

Skinny Puppy would agree with me, as well.

  10. I picked up the Ministry songs and loved em but I was hoping for some songs from 'Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste', 'Psalm 69', and 'Filth Pig'.

I was just happy to have some of the more current stuff.

If they were to release a classic Ministry pack, I may die instantly due to excessive euphoria.

  11. For me it's a few things, I'm sure.

    Nostalgia.

    Comfort.

There were some damn fantastic games!

Someone earlier said that they were easier, which I do not entirely agree with. Maybe they meant ease of play, and I misunderstood. That I certainly agree with. I despise the current overly complicated control schemes. A basic control scheme with a joystick or thumb pad for movement control, 4 buttons, at most. That I like. Something you can sit down, relax and jump right in to. I don't want half hour tutorials to explain all of the different button functions and combos.

I guess I'm just a cranky, lazy old man at nearly 32 years old.

  12. Some people hate sports games, some people love them.

I've finally grown a little tired of the Madden formula over the last few years, though it took a long time. I have at least one version of the game from every year that it has been released. I just like having the old rosters from teams that I can go back and play again, if I like.

I have spent a lot of time with many of the yearly versions, but I would have to say that it seems like 2002 on PS2 was the biggest time suck for me personally.

  13. Is there still no way to get rid of the avatars?

It has reached the point where they are beginning to actually drive me mad.

Why am I forced to have a cutesy little character bouncing around?

I think I'm going to focus on the PS3.

  14. Baseball Simulator 1.000 - SNES (NES version was good too)

    Others...

    RBI Baseball NES

    Baseball Stars NES

    Bases Loaded NES

I could never really get into the Bases Loaded series. I think the perspective of batting while looking in from behind the pitcher never worked for me. Some of my old grade school friends used to love the series, back in the day.
