  1. Happy birthday! Enjoy yourself! No stress! Relax!

  2. Happy birthday! Hope you have a nice one!

  3. For me it's a few things, I'm sure. Nostalgia. Comfort. There were some damn fantastic games! Someone earlier said that they were easier, which I do not entirely agree with. Maybe they meant ease of play, and I misunderstood. That I certainly agree with. I despise the current overly complicated control schemes. A basic control scheme with a joystick or thumb pad for movement control, 4 buttons, at most. That I like. Something you can sit down, relax and jump right in to. I don't want half hour tutorials to explain all of the different button functions and combos. I guess I'm just a cranky, lazy old man at nearly 32 years old.
  4. Some people hate sports games, some people love them. I've finally grown a little tired of the Madden formula over the last few years, though it took a long time. I have at least one version of the game from every year that it has been released. I just like having the old rosters from teams that I can go back and play again, if I like. I have spent a lot of time with many of the yearly versions, but I would have to say that it seems like 2002 on PS2 was the biggest time suck for me personally.
  5. Is there still no way to get rid of the avatars? It has reached the point where they are beginning to actually drive me mad. Why am I forced to have a cutesy little character bouncing around? I think I'm going to focus on the PS3.
  6. I could never really get into the Bases Loaded series. I think the perspective of batting while looking in from behind the pitcher never worked for me. Some of my old grade school friends used to love the series, back in the day.
  7. I do like Neo Contra, too. Not really traditional Contra gameplay, but it certainly wasn't terrible.
  8. I recall seeing the vs. machines, but I really don't know that I ever actually played one. Maybe Super Mario Bros.
  9. If you like Contra, it certainly is pretty good. But yeah, I real bitch as far as difficulty goes. Definitely true to Contra roots.
  10. I never saw goonies in the arcade. anyone else? I know that it was in some of the Play Choice 10 machines, so not really an arcade version, no. But, technically in arcades, I suppose.
  11. Oooh, baby! Never knew there was a Battletoads arcade game. I assume it's on MAME? May have to check it out.
  12. Yie Ar Kung Fu - this one was on a GBA Konami classics cart and was also released on Xbox Live Goonies 1 - this was released on the Famicom in Japan, but I don't know if it was released anywhere else.
  13. I've never really played the NES Strider, but in a similar vein, I enjoy the NES Bionic Commando much more than the arcade version. The NES version just has a lot more depth to it, in both story and gameplay. Maybe I should give Strider a try?
  14. Agreed! While the Odyssey 2 isn't a gold mine for resale, for a classic gamer to find a nice set-up like that for $8? Pure joy!
  15. Thank you! I appreciate the information.
  16. Yeah, there's Super Baseball 2020 for the Genesis, also. And don't forget BaseWars for NES. Baseball robots. My brother always enjoyed that, but I've never played it enough to warrant an honest opinion.
  17. Baseball Stars on the NES is my all-time favorite. I also used to love the High Heat Baseball series for PC. I wasted a lot of time playing through seasons on those.
  18. It's called MameUI now. http://mameui.classicgaming.gamespy.com/ AHA! Thank you!
  19. I've been out of the MAME loop for about 4-5 years. I used to use MAME32, but I guess that is now defunct. I used to be able to check ROM status with MAME32, but how do I now check whether or not ROMs are current for MAME .129, if I were to update to that? And what else do I need? I still need samples for certain games, I assume. Anything else? I saw something about CHDs? But, I assume those are only required for certain games (probably more current games), as well. Also, is there a list of all of the current games supported by MAME? These used to be a text file called gamelist.txt or something like like, but I couldn't locate that anymore.
  20. I'm considering one for MAME, too. I used to use MAME32 and it had one built in, but it seems MAME32 is no more.
  21. IIRC, Blaster Master was pretty easy, as long as you knew the PAUSE trick. Yeah, but Blaster Master just goes on and on and on. It's so difficult because you never have time to play through the whole thing. That's how it seems to me. I agree, Ghosts 'n Goblins is a bitch! Silver Surfer is suicide. X-Men is really frustratingly bad and impossible. I used a Game Genie to see if I could get through it, but still couldn't figure out how to actually finish the game. And I've still never quite finished Ninja Gaiden. I can make it to the end most of the time, but then I get my ass handed to me.
  22. I guess that's a pretty cool feature, but I don't know that I would actually use it that much, to be honest. Hopefully, they've made a few other additions. I loved last year's game.
