Activision, the best 3rd party programmer ever?
Pitfall Harry replied to HP Atari King of Michigan's topic in Atari 2600
The customer is the second party. (Oh... I should have logged in as my alter ego to post that. ) 927932[/snapback] A Third Party Vendor is One other than the principals involved in a transaction. The principals involved in the sale of the Atari 2600 were Atari and Atari's original retail customer (perhaps You). The "First Party" does not necessarily refer to the manufacturer, nor does the "Second Party" necessarily identify the purchaser. Distinguishing the First Party from the Second in any transaction acquires meaning only when one principal party sues the other, whereupon the suing party becomes the "First Party." The Third in "Third Party" has nothing to do with numerical sequence. A "Third Party" is simply someone other than the original two principals, who offers a service or product related to the mechandise exchanged in the original transaction. Activision is a Third Party vendor because they provide an accessory (game cartridge) to the retail customer of Atari products. Imagic entered the Atari 2600 game cartridge biz after Activision did, but that did not make them a "Fourth Party" vendor. There is no such thing. Like Activision, Imagic was also a party other than the principals involved in the original sale of a Atari Video Computer System, which makes Imagic a Third Party vendor, too. Make sense? Party on! I suppose the countdown affect you mentioned is true, IF you haven't played the Adventurer's Level very much. I manage to add to my level one score, and I'm sure you could too with practice. If you do struggle in level two, the game doesn't end when your score drops to zero. You can adventure onward for as long as you like, until you either finish the game or shut off the power. Here's a score maximizer tip for players who struggle to stay above zero: Get the Rope first. Avoid as many treasures as you possibly can until you have the rope in hand. If you die a million times before you get the rope (as most players will the first few times they play level 2), you're score ain't never gonna get lower than zero. The remaining treasures will be plentiful (if you remembered to avoid them before you got the rope) and getting them is a cakewalk in comparison to the rope. Once you've achieved rudimentary survival skills, you should be able to complete the game with a score that is well above zero. It's all a matter of timing, and avoiding as many of those "rabid bats" as you possibly can. You got that right! -Ben

The Official Price Guide To Video Games
Pitfall Harry replied to Albert's topic in Gaming Publications and Websites
Hey thanks, Stan! I'm adding that to my list. "I think there is a world market for maybe five computers." - Thomas Watson (1874-1956), Chairman of IBM, in 1943 "We all learned scissors in the first grade. What do I need a barber for?" - Don King "For there is nothing either good or bad, thinking makes it so." - William Shakespeare (1564-1616), Hamlet, II.ii "640 K is more memory than anyone will ever need." - Bill gates "When you have a great hand, who needs a partner?" - a great bridge player woefully lacking in social skills "We don't need no education." - Pink Floyd "You already own 20 Atari consoles. I just don't understand the need for one more." - the former Mrs. Pitfall Harry Ben -
Adventures of Lolo 3 -- Final Victory
Pitfall Harry replied to hepcat's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Nope. It's Boxxle for the Game Boy, and Shove it for the Sega Genesis that I was thinking of. Check it out. It's a great puzzler, tho not as good as Lolo, I must admit. Ben -
Adventures of Lolo 3 -- Final Victory
Pitfall Harry replied to hepcat's topic in Classic Console Discussion
There's a pretty cool puzzler for the TurboGraphX 16 called Boxy Boy, that I've played and strongly recommend. It's a little tough to find, though, especially if you don't collect for the TG-16. However, I have heard there is a clone of this game for another system, and I think that other system is the NES. I don't remember the title, though. Can anyone help here? Oh, and congrats on Lolo 3. I've heard a lot about how challenging it is. Now, if I could only FIND that game to see for myself! Lolo and Lolo 2 totally rock. Ben -
Avoid falling out of the sky for higher score. Seriously, though, I found that I fare much better at this game if I audibly utter the subtitle, Threedeep!, once every two to three seconds as I play. It helps me get into the whole frog mindset. Try it, it really works! You may think it odd at first, perhaps even silly, but stay with it. After 12 hours of continuous play, you'll be stunned at how easily you leap through the levels. A final word of advice: Before you begin play, make sure all window screens in the house fit securely and are free of rips and tears, or you're gonna be sick as a dog the next morning. Good luck! Ben

I have several LED calculators, mostly HP, some sears, some TI and a Rockwell. Let me know if you are interested, and I'll compile a list for you. I also have a calculator that uses Nixie Tubes for its display. That is waaaay cool! Ben

If you are truly doing a great job at cleaning your carts and they STILL do not work, you may have dirty contacts inside your Atari console, which will need cleaning too. Try wrapping a thin cloth around a credit card and insert it into your cartridge slot and clean thoroughly. If that does not do the trick, you should test your troublesome carts on a different, reliable Atari console. If you don't have a different Atari console, you could mail 1 or more carts to ME. I'd be happy to clean, test and give you my expert opinion on the health of your cart(s), and, of course, send them back to you. Ben

A Big Thank You to The AA Group
Pitfall Harry replied to Pitfall Harry's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I apologize for my optimism. My collection of games got severely scrambled during my yard sale. It will still take me a couple of days for me to sort through everything and make that list. Stay tuned. It's coming on Friday. 7 PST (that's GMT + . thank you for your patience. Ben -
I want to thank everyone who came out to my Ultimate Yard Sale this weekend. I raised all but $195 of what I needed. I'll be posting a list of a few more goodies from my collection that went unnoticed/unsold this weekend. They'll be priced so low, even those who were at the sale and walked away with a STEAL will wish they had saved enough money to grab these deals. Look for it around 7 pm PST. You won't want to miss it. Thanks again to everyone who came out! I really appreceate your support. Ben

Hey Chris! Congrats. 164 K is a great score. And I couldn't agree with you more, Seaquest is a terrific game. Lots O strategy to it, and very, very addictive. If you need any pointers, just ask me. I recently rang up a pretty good score on this game myself. Ben

Pitfall Harry replied to homerwannabee's topic in Atari 2600
Yes it did, thanks for asking. Your game will be in the mail tomorrow morning. And a BIG thanks to everyone who made it out this weekend to my Lost Videogame Cavern. I raised just $195 short of what I need, but I'm confident I can raise the rest in a matter of hours from the goodies from my collection that went unnoticed this weekend. I'll post a list of games priced to give whoever wants them a really good deal. Just ask anyone who was at my YS this weekend, and you will want to see this list as soon as I post it. Homerwannabe: I was happyd to meet you this weekend. Congrats and welcome to Club 200! Be sure to tip the Maitre 'D generously. Ben -

Pitfall Harry replied to Pitfall Harry's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
Traveling on the the 210 FWY (going east from Los Angeles), the Sunflower Exit is approx 6 miles east of the 605 FWY. Take Sunflower south (it's impossible to go north on sunflower from the 210 FWY). Travel south for 3/4 mile and turn right onto Juanita (it will be at the 2nd traffic light you see). My house is the 2nd house on the second block on Juanita. The address is 739 E. Juanita. The Yard sale will actually be held in my garage. Hope to see you there! Yes, it will start at exactly 10. Early comers can wait and enjoy freshly squeezed lemonade and play vid games until then. Ultimate videogame Yard sale - This weekend only!!
Pitfall Harry replied to Pitfall Harry's topic in Atari 2600
"You can't please ALL of the people All of the time." I'll admit it, I'm overloaded with questions, offers and haggling. And I have very limited computer resources and extremely limited time to sell. I'm trying to make this as fair as possible. Please realize that this is NOT an auction. The first person to make a specific, reasonable offer on specific items will get the sale. Not the first person to enter negotiations. Thanks for your understanding. Ben -
Ultimate videogame Yard sale - This weekend only!!
Pitfall Harry replied to Pitfall Harry's topic in Atari 2600
Hi all, sorry I have not been able to update this thread as often as it needs to be. Here's an update on the online pre-yard sale offers: I have been bombarded with offers, which is good. But because I am getting so many PM's, I am unable to respond to "How much do you want for this?" type questions. So, if you cannot make it to the sale this weekend, your best chance of getting an item that you want is to make me an offer. Follow-up messages should always include the items and agreed upon prices to ensure you will get what you want. Occassionally, I receive offers for the same items from two or more people at once. When this happens and I do not get a commitment to buy, including specific items and agreed upon prices from any of the parties, the FIRST person to provide me with that information will get the items -- even if their offer is not the highest price. This is NOT an auction, so if you really want something, I urge you to seal the deal as quickly as you can. I apologize if I don't get back to some of you. I'm limited to 90 minutes of computer time per day. Whatever you can do to speed the process for me is greatly appreciated, because I am trying my best to get back to all of you. Thanks for your interest, Ben -
