  1. I found the information in an email from a nocheckpoint newsletter (that I don't remember signing up for) a couple of days ago. Here's the documentary link mentioned in the email: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1316851183/the-new-8-bit-heroes-new-nes-game-and-creation-doc From the vimeo comments, the author of that demo responded to an inquiry about the tool: https://vimeo.com/200759239#comment_15711556 Joe Granata - 2 days ago"... be keeping an eye out this fall for info. :-)" Well, we can hope.
  2. This is NES related, but it is one of the most exciting things I've seen in recent times. NESMaker is a new tool (currently unreleased) that will allow people with limited programming knowledge to create their own NES games. https://sourceforge.net/projects/nesrommaker/- Project page Demonstration: (Sorry if this is old news. I'm not looking for a subscription... I just thought this was super cool and thought I'd share.)
  3. It loads really slow for me a good share of the time as well.
  4. In the Krokodile Commander, I chose 3E (3F with 32K RAM) (8K-512K). Is that the correct bankswitching setting? It's the only 3E in my Krokodile Commander's list.
  5. I might be doing something wrong. When I loaded the game onto my Krokodile Cartridge, it crashed after the title screen.
  6. Nice chatting with you tonight! :)

  7. Very cool, PacManPlus! I'm thinking it's past time I get myself an Atari 7800... if only for the great homebrew that you guys keep coming up with! Circus is one of my favorites... I even built my own Flash version: http://www.gamebuilder.info/world/arcade/circus Of course, it's not nearly as cool as making a game for a console, but it's all I'm capable of. Keep up the great work!

  10. Beck is probably my favorite! :)

You may or may not recall, I made a Space Invaders hack some time ago and suggested that people play it while listening to Midnight Vultures. Hahhaha. :)

  12. What kind of meds? Nothing prescribed to me ever helped... I only got lots of side effects. Occasionally, when I've had a rough day, I steal a Xanax from my roommate. I wish I had a prescription for that stuff... it's lovely. Oh yeah... horizontal lines. I don't have squat to say about horizontal lines. Sorry.
  13. *Update* My fourth grader acts interested in making a game, but can't get motivated to do anything about it. One of my second graders, however, drew up some pictures straight away! I'm going to take this short demo to him tomorrow so he can see that more graphics and gameplay ideas are needed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-5TlCTmSNY In other news... my fourth grader has me playing Doom 2. I never thought that would happen, but I find Doom 2 to be much more entertaining than Doom. He also told me to download Outlaws... and I have, but I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
  14. Though I've played this game many times, I never felt like I was making much progress. I think I keep returning to it for the music more than anything else.
  15. I went over to the yard sale this morning. It was worth it, if only to see the thing in the wild. A young child (12 or 13) was playing the Vectrex when I arrived. I asked the seller if there were any games besides the built in Minestorm. She told me there weren't. Then I asked her how much she wanted for the machine. She told me that she was asking 200 dollars. Then she asked me if I wanted to try it out. I told her that I already had one at home. I told her that 200 was a little bit out of my range, but if she was interested I'd leave my number and an offer of 70 bucks in case she was unable to sell the Vectrex for 200 dollars. She told me that she hadn't been sure what to charge for it, so she looked it up on eBay. She said that she found a few, but they were boxed and had a couple of games. I told her that having the box jumps the price up quite a bit. She asked me what I had paid for mine. I told her that I paid 60 dollars to someone in an online forum. She took my number and so I guess I'll see if she calls. The Vectrex was loose, but it had a fairly beat up Minestorm overlay. I didn't test it, but the controller appeared to be fine. The lady was super nice... I almost felt bad that I didn't buy the thing. ... I feel lucky that I got my Vectrex (in great condition and including Clean Sweep, Armor Attack, and Pole Position), for such a deal here on Atariage. I forget who I bought it from (I'm sure it was Mert or Myrtle or something), but THANKS AGAIN!
  16. Well crap! I just noticed this on Craigslist: ****1982 VECTREX SYSTEM**** - $200 (Hill & Collister) That's a little bit more than I was willing to spend. I may swing by anyway to take a look... and to drop an offer of 60-80 bucks... should they not find another buyer. What a sucky way to end the day.
  17. Since I spoke about my bad hoarding habits... I just noticed a Vectrex pop up in my area on Craigslist (garage sale). I already have a Vectrex, but I had to buy mine from a seller here on Atariage; I have never seen one in the wild. Well, I can't help myself once again... I am going on Saturday to see what the seller wants for it. I'm sorta hoping that this is my big break where it is boxed and they have a bunch of cool peripherals for 30 bucks or something. That's never happened to me before; I'm not going to hold my breath.
  18. Cool! I'm a fan of Super Mario Kart... I'll check it out! Today I broke my own rule and introduced my student to Super Mario Allstars (I own the game, so I don't feel too bad). He loved it! At least I have something (somewhat) school appropriate that will motivate him to work. The child has anxiety problems that get in the way of learning. He tends to obsess about a subject and finds difficulty getting interested in much else. I've been trying to find something he can get interested in... some sort of creative outlet. I asked him today if he was at all interested in creating his own video game. He seemed excited by the prospect, so I may load the freeware (for schools) version of Klik 'N Play onto my thumb drive and help him create his own simple game. I just hope he will be happy starting simple - we won't be creating any Doom-like games with the software.
  19. Thanks! I will look into these recommendations. I've heard of most of them. When DOS gaming was big, I was going through a period where I didn't play games much, if at all. I probably missed out on a lot of good stuff. I can't take any games to school that have guns or weapons. I would love to take Super Mario, except I don't want to introduce the kids to emulation - due to legality concerns. I don't care to take in my consoles because I've seen the abuse my GBA has taken. Last night I downloaded about 12 fan-made Super Mario Bros clones. A couple of them were decent, but each were flawed enough to make the experience less than satisfying. I guess I've been spoiled by the real deal.
  20. I have a 4th grade student who is absolutely obsessed with the Doom series of games, Shadow Warrior, and Abuse. He uses DOSBOX to play them on his PC at home. Unfortunately, I cannot use these games to motivate him at school... nor should I be engaging with him in conversation about the games since they are ultra-violent. I'm wondering if anyone has some DOS game recommendations that might also be elementary school appropriate? Thanks in advance! (Admittedly, I hadn't played or until tonight. I rather enjoy Abuse, but Shadow Warrior didn't really do it for me; I've never been a big fan of gory Doom-like games.) ... While I'm posting... does anyone have a GBA SP that they'd like to sell me for cheap? Currently, I let my students earn time with my Gameboy Advance, but the screen is dark and it is getting pretty battered (I've replaced the protective screen twice).
  21. Now I need to get me a Tempest cabinet. Gosh, I'm jealous. I have nowhere to put an arcade cabinet if I did, but I can't guarantee I wouldn't snatch it up if I caught the perfect deal. I limit myself to only purchasing/keeping games I like, however. I can only imagine how the clutter would be if I didn't!
  22. I forgot to mention that I have a modified Supercharger... somewhere. I don't think I've used it since the day I got it. Now and then I think I should just sell everything. Doesn't that sound crazy? I don't have or make a lot of time to play any of the games I have. I'm just so darn obsessed with them.
  23. The ease of use of the Harmony Cart is certainly enticing... and the price is decent. I may get one yet. I finally went back and looked at the DC link you gave me. I NEED one of those!
  24. The Harmony Cart looks nice, but for now my Krokocart serves me well. I'll have to look up the DC SD Adapter, however.
  25. I'm obsessed with video games and homebrew, but I don't have enough space to keep all my games and consoles out. My (somewhat expensive) solution is flash cartridges. Here is a list of the flash cartridges that I own, those I plan to get, and some I wish existed. Have: Atari 2600 - Krokocart, Starpath Supercharger Vectrex - VecFlash Vic-20 - Megacart ColecoVision - VecFlash Adapter Nintendo Entertainment System - Powerpak Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Powerpak Gameboy Advance - EFA Linker Nintendo DS - CycloDS, TopToyDS Want: Commodore 64 - 1541Ultimate (ordered and paid for in February... waiting on shipment) Sega Genesis - Everdrive (waiting to order) Intellivision - Cuttle Cart 3 (Chad doesn't accept Paypal, I don't keep a checkbook (after having been ripped off), and I hate using money orders) Turbo GrafX 16 - I haven't really researched what is out there. Of course, it might help if I score myself a console first. Wish: TI-99/4a Flash Cartridge Of those I have, the only one I cannot recommend highly is the EFA Linker. While I was able to get it working, I didn't have any luck loading multiple games onto it. Still, I can't complain much because I bought it for only 10 bucks on Dealextreme. So, what flash cartridges and similar solutions do you use and/or recommend? ... On occasion, I also pick up other homebrew hardware peripherals to use with my consoles. Here is a very short list of those I can remember off the top of my head: Atari 2600 - AtariVox, Atari Memory Card, SMS Lightgun Adapter
