  1. It is much easier to collect them all when using a joystick. Yay, I win! @Daniel: This is a nice engine. I hope your plans are to develop it into a full scale game!?
  2. I want to say "yes" because I own a Vectrex, but I'm not sure if you want to count that in your poll, so I didn't vote.
  3. Ah geez! There are not that many homebrew games that I don't like! Here are my top 5 (of the moment): 5) Qb 4) Hunchy 2 3) Starfire 2) Thrust (with driving and pedal controllers) 1) Oystron Honorable mention: Marble Craze Joust Pong Four Play Swoops (Fantastic mini-game collection) Lady Bug Conquest of Mars Strat-O-Gems Deluxe unreleased games (get a Krokodile cart): Man Goes Down Hack'Em (we still call this a hack?) Boulderdash (no, I haven't played it, but it's Boulderdash!) Mind Master DX Medieval Mayhem Robot City
  4. An idea that popped into my head when I read the above post. (If you can't tell, the Dreamcast swirls are supposed to look similar to a footprint, but it didn't turn out as nicely as I'd hoped). I've never played World Series 2k2 or NFL 2k2. I have a copy of World Series 2k1 here somewhere and thought it sucked pretty bad. Apparently there were vast improvements in 2k2? I'll have to pick these up and give 'em a shot!
  5. Sorry, I have to do it... Three of my favorite DC games are in fact sports games: Tennis 2k2, NBA 2k2, and Golf Shiyouyo! Also look for Space Channel 5, Cosmic Smash, REZ, Rayman 2, ChuChu Rocket, Crazy Taxi 2, Frogger 2, Ms. Pacman - Maze Madness, Typing of the Dead, PenPen TriIcelon, Q*bert (I liked it, so sue me), Soul Calibur, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX... ... well, the Dreamcast is a great console to own, the list goes on and on!
  6. Each of the PSX emulators has its own compatibility problems. You may want to keep a copy of each; if one won't play your game, another just might. ePSXe never seems to shut down properly on my PC. A few times when I have noticed decreased performance on my machine, I have opened the task manager to find multiple copies of ePSXe running in the background.
  7. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ot_widget" Has anyone played or seen one of these machines? I can't really identify any of the four games in the photo. I assume that it is a Famiclone except... it plays CDs! I wonder if it would play ROM disk CD-R's? I'd buy it to find all this out, except I'm not sure it would work on my NTSC screen AND the seller won't ship to the U.S.
  8. The last time I played at the arcade, the otter did kill me. I forget if it just swam to the log I was on or what, but I was surprised. For years I thought it was a harmless bottle bobbing down the stream. otter in bottle camouflage (it kind of looks like a bottle! sort of!)
  9. I can't say for sure that I went without a beating; If my dad didn't kick my ass, I'm sure my brother probably did. Still, I carelessly damaged someone else's property! It was only right that I have to replace the cartridge. I'm not entirely sure I knew whose cartridge it was when I punctured the label, but I certainly knew it wasn't mine. ... I destroyed a lot of things back then. I was the kid who chewed through joystick boots, tore apart the plastic on our Intellivision 2 controllers, and threw NES controllers at the television. My brother was far worse. One day I watched as he got so pissed off playing Ghosts and Goblins on the NES that he ripped the cartridge out of the machine and through it at the wall so hard he left a corner shaped dent in the sheetrock! Then he walked over, picked the cartridge up off of the floor, and re-inserted the game into the gaping grey box to find the game still played fine (I'm sure that was a blow to his ego)! He also eventually kicked the doors completely off our bedroom closet after repeated game losses. Oh... those were the days.
  10. Yeah. At the time (I must have been 6 or 7), I didn't really see what the big deal was... I mean, the game still played fine! I never enjoyed the game as much as others. I suppose it was also around this time when I learned to appreciate a nice clean tear-free label.
  11. One time my older brother borrowed a copy of Q*bert from the neighbor across the street. We only had the cartridge for a day or two when I found myself pushing a nail through the label... I don't know why. Boredom? ADHD? When I was found out, my mother took some money from my bank to buy a new copy of the game to give back to my neighbor. I never did it again.
  12. Psx v1.8 is my favorite Playstation emulator. Although it still requires the Playstation bios, it doesn't require various plugins that the others do. More recently the emulator supports Vib Ribbon. Playstation emulation is far from perfect, but it has come a long way. You can find most of the emulators & plugins at http://www.ngemu.com/psx and the various bios at http://membres.lycos.fr/emulsysteme/archives/bios/ //Off topic// I never really paid much attention to the Playstation when it was still alive and strong. What are everyone's favorite games for this console? I'm pretty big into 2-D platform games and innovative games with fairly simple gameplay and cute/colorful graphics. I love twitch games and just about anything psychedelic. I'm not so good with RPGs unless they have a very engaging story or they are the Action/RPG type where you actually get to play the game. The PSX games that I have been playing (via emulation) recently are Umihara Kuwase Shun, Vib Ribbon, : Door to Phantomile, Internal Section, and Strider 2.
  13. You shouldn't begin a sentence with a conjunction! I forgive you because you write excellent games, brought porno to my Atari, have a quirky sense of humor, and your post count is 888 (that's kind of special). Cheers!
  14. Cheers & bravos to theredeye, Joesmooth, Tempest, Curt Vendel, Steve (the shop guy) and anyone else who might have been involved! What a team! This thread really turned around once Frank got involved - I don't think any one person could take all the credit on this one. @theredeye: I'd like to hear more about how you smoothed over the shop guy! Heck, if there's not much story to tell, you could always make a good one up!... I've enjoyed everything I've read from you so far! :-) Oh, and by the way, when are you going to update the 13 beta days of Christmas?! j/k!
  15. This is great! :-) I really like the suggestions that people have mentioned before. I have a couple suggestions/ideas as well: Between fire, the game does seem a little quiet. Maybe you could add an overall ambient sound the the background representing ships on the water. Then maybe speedboats and other ships that pass by less frequently could have their own effects which would override the default and break it up a bit. Maybe you could change the color of the score display based on which difficulty mode the player is playing in. Then if someone gets braggish about a highscore, then the colors will tell on them. HAH! If it is impossible to have the sun set during gameplay, perhaps the game could pause occasionally (after so many points are scored, or so many ships are sunk). During this time, the score and any bonuses could be tallied, extra lives could be rewarded, etc. Then when the game begins again, the background would also change to represent a different time of day (morning, noon, evening, midnight). Different weather might vary things up as well; I'd love to see fog as in Enduro. Pausing in between gameplay might give it a nice Atlantis feel. :-) The game already plays great. Whatever ideas you implement, I'm positive the end result will be nothing short of fantastic! Nice job!
  16. Balloon Fight 1984 Nintendo Balloon Kid 1990 Nintendo Hello Kitty World 1992 Mario Co, LTD I made a simple graph of sorts to show which game modes each game has: Balloon Fight(CPU) | VS | Balloon Trip | Quest Balloon Fight X X X Balloon Kid X X X Hello Kitty World X I'm not sure if you noticed, but the music for "Balloon Trip" is slightly different from the regular game mode music. Well, it matches up perfectly with the music from the "Balloon Trip" mode in Balloon Fight -- just the same as the music from the regular game mode matches up with the music in Hello Kitty World. I prefer Balloon Fight of all the versions. It is on the big screen, in color, and IMO the 2-player vs mode is the best version all-round. :-)
  17. For some reason I thought I replied to this post the first time I read it. Guess not. I've always assumed that Balloon Kid must definitely be directly related to Balloon Fight - after all, the music is the same as are the controls. Well, today I was playing through some Famicom ROMs when I came upon Hello Kitty World. This game is almost exactly like Balloon Kid, except you control Hello Kitty. So I thought that I'd look up this thread and mention it. If you like Balloon Kid (or Hello Kitty for that matter), you should check it out. :-)
  18. I have them in mind, and I sympathize. For those who hunger for every label and cart variations... I say feed 'em. Both are excellent games. Emulation doesn't do either of them justice. When you get Thrust, I suggest that you have a driving controller and footpedal controller ready. It's one of the coolest games I have ever played, but this controller combination makes it just that much more fun!
  19. If offering Thrust in a different colored cartridge shell helps to sell more copies of the game, I say go for it! As far as I'm concerned, let the overzealous collector buy each variation. It will only serve to feed his hunger while adding a nice option for the rest of us. No one will be hurt if the game is shipped with a new case. I think it would be silly to think of this as a "new edition" - it is just plastic after all. I wish that cartridges had been released in different colored cases all along. IMO, bland grey casing of NES cartridges seems drab and boring compared to Famicom cartridges. Back to the origin of this little debate - if Thomas in fact wanted to continue developing and adding to Thrust, it should be his decision. As gamers, we are just the beneficiaries of his own little obsession. Anyone who actually becomes upset or even angry over any new development should rethink the hobby or have his head checked. ... just my 2 pesos.
  20. What is Flying Omelette? I wish that I could come by a nice copy of Megaman X3 so that I could trade for this Over Horizon cart. :-( People abused this game. I have seen more on eBay with half-torn labels, rips, scratches, and magic marker than any other game I can remember hunting for. :-P ... a little off topic: I went through my NES cd to try and find Flying Omelette when I found a game called Flying Hero; It's kind of a nifty breakout/Circus type clone. Does anyone know if it was ever released on a NES cart, or only Famicom? @Bratwurst: I still haven't given up the hunt for Megman X3. I'm waiting for a response from some guy about the condition of a cart I'm onto now. *crosses fingers* It's probably been mutilated with fingernail polish remover. :-P
  21. If you don't like the game, I might be willing to buy it off of you. I have had my eyes out for this game for some time, but I usually just miss them on eBay... or the label is crap. :-P I love lightgun games... the idea of using a non-standard controller to play games has always appealed to me. Someone should hack the Dreamcast fishing rod to connect to the VCS... then someone could hack Fishing Derby to use it with. Wouldn't that be neat?
  22. oops... meant to hit pvt. I think this is what thread-crapping means... :-(
  23. Awesome! I love the artwork! So is the game finished?! I played a demo a while back and was majorly impressed!
