Sort of off topic since this is the auction board - but Stronghold is one of those rare rares that is actually fun to play.... hard too (IMO).... -
Povlok1's A/V mod - Tigger's 1st hand review...
geaster replied to tiggerthehun's topic in Atari 2600
Just got my modded 4-switcher from Povlok1, and let me tell you, it is indeed a thing of beaty - both in terms of physical condition (clean clean clean!) and the picture it puts out. I had been playing on a regular RF with Coax-adapter plug on my 46-inch HD monitor and the picture just plain sucked. This thing puts out a crisp, clear and beautiful image. Sure makes Adventure a lot more fun! Anyway - consider this 100% positive feedback. If any of you are thinking of buying one of his modded units, don't hesitate. -
To be fair to Adam, he did accept the return, even though I should have asked if it was NTSC in the first place. However, he accepted the return and then gave a runaround on the refund, which is a sucky way to do business. Worse - his answers to folks who did ask if it was NTSC when he re-listed it were (paraphrasing here) "I don't know, it plays ok on my TV", which is misleading at best when I had already told him it was PAL. I don't know. I can say that of the very few minor issues I've had with sellers on eBay since I got back into collecting, this is the only one that's gone unresolved. Pretty good batting average really when you consider the volume and amounts of transactions I've had lately... And, in effect, this is what we agreed to. He got his game back. I got my money back. So I suppose all is well. I wouldn't buy from him again, though....

I posted about the PAL Master Builder on eBay in the last week or so. This is just a quick follow up. The seller - TOPOL77 - accepted a return from me on this game about 3 weeks ago, and has since then decided to ignore my emails and never refunded my money. If he wasn't going to issue the refund, why accept the game back??? AMEX took care of it for me (which is a good reason to use AMEX via PayPal IMO). Others who have emailed him as he tried to re-sell the game found he was not exactly forthcoming about whether the game is PAL or NTSC (even though he knows it is PAL), which leads me to believe he's not exactly the most trustworthy fellow. I'm sure I'll get a neg when the funds get sucked out of his account, but what can you do??? Just a tip from your uncle geaster.

Glib BIN for those who don't mind spending $125.00 !

More money than sense - what can I say? DeathTrap knows from personal experience! -
Oh - and as much as I hate to recommend it, large lots of relatively common games are sold on eBay all the time. When you're just starting out, a few of these lots can get you a decent collection (at least with fun games to play) pretty quick.... Or if you find a local collector I'm willing to bet they'll have plenty of duplicate carts they'll happily offload to you. Good luck.

I haven't yet tried the dishwasher, but I have had success taking them apart, removing all the electronic components and giving the plastic upper and lower cases and faceplate a nice warm soap and water scrub. If you're bathing a heavy sixer, be prepared to have the two boards separate when you remove them. There's a ribbon-like cable with metal teeth that comes out of the upper pretty easily and is easy to put back together. First time I did it I freaked and thought I had broken it... Anyway - the only hesitancy I have about the dishwasher is the potential to warp the shell if it gets too warm - but many here recommend it. Also be prepared to find weird crap inside. I found a dead bug in the last one I gave a bath.

This has got to be a joke.....

Is this a record price for a rarity 9 game?

Actually, now that I think about it, silly is the wrong word. Deathtrap nailed it - this is pure jealousy.... -

Sheesh. Now I don't feel so silly about this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...MEBWN%3AIT&rd=1 Yesterday was a good day.... -
I applaud you for your efforts Defender. Unfortunately (and I speak from some experience here), the battle isn't really about features or functionality or technology. I don't really think it's all about pricing even... Seems to me the only way to beat eBay at it's own game is for a sizeable (and I mean really sizeable) core group of buyers and sellers to coordinate a mass and synchronized defection to a new marketplace. That hasn't happened much historically since if buyers and sellers knew each other well enough to coordinate such a defection, they wouldn't have needed the marketplace to meet in to begin with... I do think there's a pretty good core group regularly trolling through this site, however. Whether it's got enough critical mass to support such a jump to a new marketplace over the established one is another question. Good luck. I'll browse your site and buy whatever I can from there, for what it's worth... (I hardly ever sell...).

Don't be too hard on yourself. I thought I was hot stuff collection-wise until I got here too..... Nice thing about having some of these gaps is it gives you some easy wins to get. I acquired a bunch of rather rare stuff a month or so ago via the evil empire (eBay), but it seems that's run dry for now. I've been focusing on the common stuff and Sears variants I don't yet have, which fills that insatiable urge to collect in the meantime... And FWIW, I now own 2 copies of Pitfall. Anybody want the dupe??

For what it's worth - that's a PAL Master Builder on eBay
geaster replied to geaster's topic in Auction Central
Based on my email interactions with the seller, that seems about right.... he did agree to refund the money, but has yet to do it (after ~2 weeks), so I don't know what to think....
