Are people physically sending you disks? I'd be glad to send some, and can cover the postage both ways. I have 250 or so collected over the years. Whats is the address?
Hi,
thanks for your help.
Before sending anything it's best if you post a list. Not everything is needed and there may be some items more sought after than others.
Also, if some people use Ebay to bid for certain items for this project, we should coordinate so that we avoid a bidding war for the same purpose.
I recently acquired Bannercatch and Winter Challenge (US release of Winter Olympiad) and had them sent to Farb. Let's hope they still work and can be converted.
Also, when bidding, sealed software or at least in their original boxes is preferred, but if not and only sold as loose disks, at least it should have the original sticker.

Sweet!
Where were all of you in the early to mid 80s? I'm pretty sure the Atari 8bit line would have lasted longer. Impressive work.

From the way that it fails to load then I'll wager it's a bad dump. Having had a quick poke in HandyBug, the CPU does a comparison between two values then because they fail to be equal, enters an explicit infinite loop.
So, is anyone there that has the ability to try to make another dump of this game?
-
I want to thank everyone that replied in this thread, but somehow the discussion has derailed from the original question. I still don't know why 99% of all commercial games do work with Handy but BASEBALL HEROES has issues. Does anyone know? Is it a problem of Handy? Of the game or its dump?
If it's the second, can a new dump solve the problem?
-
Of all the commercial games that were released for the Lynx most ROMS seem to work fine with Handy but two.
One is BASEBALL HEROES that doesn't even load. Is it because it was badly dumped? If so, can someone try to redump it again? Or is there some kind of incompatibility between this game and the Handy emulator?
The other one is S.T.U.N. Runner. This one loads, but there are very apparent graphic glitches from the beginning. The questions for the previous game also apply here.
Do you know of another commercial game that has problems with Handy?

DROPZONE remains for me the number one shooter for the 800XL.

Emanuelle definitly was available in English. AFAIK the Automation crack of the game is in English.
But, was it made by the publishing company or was it a hack from the cracking crew? Only interested if it was made by the publishing company, so that I can hunt for these original versions on Ebay.

I have thousands of Apple II games that I acquired from a preservation effort. Not sure if the effort still exists, but I have 14+ GB of compressed Apple II and Mac Software. Anything specific you are looking for?
I'm mostly interested in graphic adventures and RPG's, but as I said, only if they don't have the 'cracked by' loading screens that most Apple II images that are available through the Internet have.
-
Does anyone know if, like with the Atari and Commodore computers with their preservation efforts, there is a similar thing for the Apple II, or at least a place where original dumps can be found and not cracked images?

Make sure you are using the BIN file version and not the A78 version.
Mitch
That was it.
Thank you very much. And thanks to the other posters that also replied.

Are you setting them up as 128k games?
What exactly do you mean? When I do the copy command I get a file that's 128-129k big. Previously they are 65k.
I'm using the Prosystem 1.2 emulator and I don't see any options there for such a thing. Sorry again for so many questions, but I'm a newbie in some of these things.
-
Hi,
thanks for your help. I followed your instructions, and yes, I managed to make a copy of all the games (Tower Toppler, Water Ski, Tank Command), but when trying to use them, I only get a black screen. What am I doing wrong?
-
Topic title says it all. I've read that there are some games that ProSystem has some problems to emulate because they use a specific banking scheme, but that there is a trick to make them work by doubling them to 128k.
But, and forgive my ignorance, how do you do that? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Since I don't have an original 800XL or an ST anymore, I could contribute by buying games from Ebay and sending them to remowilliams so that he can convert them to VAPI or PASTI respectively. Having the game available as an atx or an stx file is enough pay for me.
I also have some old catalogs from Nicroprose (4), Infogrames, Sierra, US Gold, Activision and SSI and the original instructions for Dive Bomber and Deja Vu II (ST) and NATO Commander (XL) in case you are interested in them for scanning.
I also want to thank remowilliams for making available his VAPI collection recently.

Eastern Front
Bruce Lee
One-on-One
Beach-Head
Karateka
Those were the first five, and what a great time they provided...well, they still do.

Could it be 'Freaky Factory'?
Although this one is post-1985.

There's also The Mask of the Sun and The Serpent's Star for lovers of graphic/text adventures.
Other titles worth mentioning may be The Blade of Blackpoole, The Rainbird ones (Pawn, Guild of Thieves), some of the early Sierra titles (Dark Crystal) and a little known one from Melbourne House (text only) called Mordon's Quest.

I'm using the Gamebase frontend with Atari games and the Atari800Win+4.0 emulator. While I have no problems when starting and changing games in .atr or .atx files (they start directly when you select the game), if I try to do the same with cartridge (.rom) and cassette (.cas) files, I always get the boot error message.
Also, if I manually select e.g. a cartridge and run it and if I try to select another one later thru Gamebase, it will always start with the one previously loaded.
I've tried changing settings on the emulator, but nothing has helped so far.
I think it may be due to the way the emulator is designed, as with Vice or CCS for the C64, the emulator seems to have no problem with this. I can load a .tap file and later select a .g64/.d64 one, and it will load both with no problems.
Any ideas on how to be able to load all those files just by pressing 'play game' on gamebase? Thank you.

Hi,
sorry if this has been answered before, but being in Europe, will there be any incompatibility with games or the machine itself? That means, games or movies bought in Europe not working on a US machine or viceversa.
Being a handheld system I think it won't matter, but I want to be sure before ordering one from the USA.
Thanks for your help.

Aaaaaargh!!! I didn't see that the contest ended at NOON.
Well, I would have been fourth anyway, so no points for me....again.
