  1. I picked the DS Lite. I had 2 original DS with broken hinges, one part of the hinge was very thin and broke after a few years. The DS Lits I have never had any issues with build quality, plus they came in a variety of colors. Nice to have when you have 3-4 of them. I never had a DSi. I do have an original 3DS. Nice system, but again the hinge seems very floppy on the original 3DS. The hinge never broke, but it seems the top screen was never really locked in.The 3ds XL would be my second choice on the list. Nice big screen and seems well built. I do not own a 2ds or New 3DS.
  2. How much data a BlueRay disc can hold vs a SD card doesn't really matter. Both the PS4 and XB1 play their game off of their hard drives. If a game is 100GB, it can just be shipped on two Bluerays, which I am guessing is cheaper to manufacture than just about any size SD card. But like you said downloading is the future and for me, present. My son still prefers to buy games for PS4 or XB1 on disc, but for games that I think I want to play with him I usually get the digital download. We can play the digital version of a game on both of our XB1s at once, cant do that with a disc.
  3. For $20 I will get the Donkey Kong country game for the WiiU. I have been hesitant to buy this one because I did not like the motion controls of the last DKC game released for the Wii. But for $20 there is not much lost if I do not like it.
  4. Not all tablets are $600 anymore. There are Kindle Fire tablets available for 50 dollars that will play the popular games just fine. Plus it comes with a charger! (unlike Nintendo's latest portable). The $100 Kids Kindle tablets come with a 2 year no questions asked warranty. Tablets also have YouTube, SnapChat , Instagram and all the other social media stuff that kids like. A PS Vita or 3DS can't compete with that. There are decent Samsung tablets for $150 if you want a name brand. A few years ago when I would take my kids to soccer games, little league or whatever, the kids on the sideline would almost always have a DS to play with. Now it is exclusively tablets or phones. I asked my wife, who is a middle school teacher, how many kids bring a 3ds/Vita to school and her response was "The kids all have smartphones now, why would they need one of those?" I think it is only us old people who like dedicated portable game systems anymore.
  5. How much does the arcade cost? My wife has a S6 edge plus and my daughter has a S6. I have been kicking around spending the 100 dollars for the goggles but was wondering what the applications cost.
  6. The average gamer would buy plenty of Nintendo games if they did not have to buy a Nintendo console to play them. Beleive it or not, many people like Mario, Zelda, CoD, Forza, Uncharted, and Halo. Liking a Mario or Zelda game does not exclude someone from liking CoD or Destiny. The reverse is also true. What the average gamer will not do is spend $400 for a PS4 or XB1 that plays 90% of the games he or she likes and then another $300 for a Wii U to play the 3-4 Nintendo exclusives he or she likes. I am lucky enough to afford all 3 of the major consoles so I can play everything I like. If I could afford to buy only one console the truth is that the Wii U would be a distant 3rd choice.
  7. For a 40 inch screen, there would be no noticeable difference. From everything I have read, there is a difference for screens at or above the 50 - 55 inch range. I don't own a 2160p TV yet, but when one of my older 73 inch TVs dies I will be replacing it with a 4k TV. The NX shouldn't be designed to compete with the PS4 or XB1, it should blow them away. Samsung isn't making the next Galaxy phone to compete with the 3 year old IPhone 4, it wants to beat the IPhone 7.
  8. If the NX is a true next generation console with a next generation online service, and it has all the games I want to play, then absolutely I would game on the NX as my primary console. I am not some brand loyal fan boy, I play where the best games are. When the NES and SNES had all the big name games, those were the systems I used. When the PS1 and PS2 had all the games, I played there. The last couple of generations, Microsoft has been where I primarily play. I hope Nintendo doesn't sell me a PS4/XB1 with a Nintendo label on it. I will not buy CoD, Destiny, or Madden for the NX if it has the same visuals as the XB1 and PS4 I already have. Make the NX truly next gen. 2160p/4k visuals are a must for a next gen system. Have at least a PSN/Xbox Live quality online service. Maybe release some classic games for purchase. It is pretty sad that at one point the XB1 had more N64 games available for it than the Wii U (right after the Rare collection was released there were more N64 games on XB1 than the Wii U VC). I don't care about some hybrid handheld home dockable console nonsense. I have a smartphone for portable gaming that is way more convenient, is just as much fun, and has a gigantic game library for me to bother with a 3DS/Vita style handheld anymore. Just give me a beast of a home console with all the games and a good online service.
  9. Definitely the 2600. It was new when I was 7 or 8 and I primarily played on the 2600 until I was 12 or 13 when the C64 joined the mix. I remember buying a bunch of bargain bin 2600 games for $5 or so from Kaybee Toys with my lawn cutting money. Played the NES in high school and Genesis in college.
  10. Your Porsche analogy was kind of fitting. Porsche, while it may have been profitable alone, is owned by the largest auto company in the world, Volkswagen. All of the other niche automakers that used to be independent (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Volvo, etc.) are now owned by much larger parent companies. Tesla is the only niche automaker that I can think of that is independent and I am not sure how long their business model can sustain itself before they are bought out. I wonder how long Nintendo will be independent before someone like Disney, Apple, Google, or Microsoft looks at their IPs and does a Star Wars with them.
  11. I wouldn't blame CODs developer for Nintendo's online service. The much older 360 and PS3 have a much better online service. Also, Nintendo releasing a console with only 8gb (or 32gb) of onboard storage isn't exactly DLC friendly, especially when the COD DLC packs are 6-8gb each. Lego City was fun when you could actually play the game. The Egyptians built the Pyramids faster than a level loads in Lego City. Reminded me of my old Commodore 64 without a fast load cart. Then again that is how the Wii U was back when it was released. Switching between games and apps could almost be measured in minutes. Thankfully the Wii U OS is much quicker now.
  12. You can set your status with the Xbox app on Windows 10 to "appear offline" . It will remain that way until you change it on either your XB1 or on Win 10,
  13. I know Killer Instinct is free/freemium on the XB1. I have not played it myself though.
  14. My son has been playing through Reach on XB1, He hasn't complained about any framerate issues or anything else. The game looks fine when I have watched him play it. I played a couple of races on Hydro Thunder, seemed just as good as it was on the 360 to me.
  15. Wii discussion is non existant, so having separate forums for Wii and Wii U at this point seems silly. The Wii is dead and even the PS3 and 360 get more new releases than the Wii U. A lot of Wii U discussion has been about the little figurines Nintendo makes and not any games. There is not much to talk about for Nintendo fans, unfortunately. One subsection for Wii and Wii U discussion seems like more than enough to me.
  16. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/12/04/fan-favorite-ps2-games-launching-on-ps4-tomorrow/ There are some PS2 games coming for PS4 tomorrow. I already have GTA games and Twisted Metal Black on disc, I doubt I will re buy them. Hopefully PS users will pressure Sony to change their stance on PS2 titles being available for purchase only. Wouldn't mind seeing some PS2 titles added to the "free" PS+ monthly game selections.
  17. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-12-04-report-ps4s-ps2-emulation-wont-support-discs-or-ps3-digital-purchases I hope that this is not true, I was looking forward to be able to play some old ps2 games upscaled to 1080p.
  18. Forza 6 for $34.99 at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Forza-Motorsport-6-Xbox-One/dp/B00SVVUOGU/ref=sr_1_5?m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1448659224&sr=1-5
  19. Oh as mentioned above your primary Xbox system can only be changed a few times a year at most. I thought it was once every 30 or 60 days.
  20. The primary system does not have to be logged into xbox live at all to play any games you bought for it. (I am not sure about the Games with Gold "free" games, those might require an online check) Any other system needs to be online and connected to xbox live for any downloaded game to work. My kids and I have played Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare, Diablo 3, etc online together on separate Xbox Ones while only buying the game once. It works for DLC as well. I bought the disc version of Destiny for my son last year. The game looked like fun so I bought a second disc for 20$ after Xmas. I ended up buying the expansions for Destiny once but both of us can play together in the expansion zones
  21. It works. The key, as mentioned, is to have the system that others will use be set up as the primary system. Anyone can play downloaded games on the primary system online or offline. You have to be logged in to xbox live and online to play your downloaded games on any other system.
  22. I don't care if it is called backwards compatibility, propaganda, rainbows and unicorns, or emulation, the few 360 games I have tried on the XB1 seem to work pretty well.
  23. I played with random players a couple of times and had a guy join me when I was doing one of the hellfire amulet/infernal machine boss fights. The guy had 10,000 paragon levels and had both bosses destroyed before I knew what happened. Was not fun at all. Never tried playing with a random player again. Based on how long it has taken me to get 450 paragon levels, I don't see how someone could have 10k. I am around Paragon 450 and usually play a Wizard most often. I haven't played a ton since the new patch came out, but I am generally liking the changes they made. My only gripe is that if you fail a Greater Rift, you cannot upgrade a Legendary Gem like you could before. I have a hard time soloing Greater Rifts above 41-42, so sometimes I will do a lower one just so I can upgrade some of my other gems. My gamer tag is Bilnick
  24. For me it is the XB1 by a ton. I like my PS4 just fine, but the XB1 is the go to system in our house. My son and I like the exclusives a bit more on the XB1. Halo, Forza, Forza Horizon get more playtime than Last of Us, Killzone, The Order, etc. There is a ton of overlap in the libraries it really is only a handful of games that are exclusive to each system. It is much easier and cheaper to add more hard drive space on the XB1. Just plug in an external hdd and you are good to go. A 5TB external hdd can be had for $135. With the PS4 you have to buy a 2.5" hdd and then you lose the 500gb of space you already had if you upgrade to a 2TB for instance. So for the $100 to upgrade to a 2TB hdd you only really gain 1.5tb. I only have 10 or so games on my PS4 and the stock 500gb drive is half full. I have 25+ games on my XB1 with only 16% of my hard drive space used (4TB external + 500GB internal) XB1 backwards compatability with 360 games is a nice plus. The 3-4 games I have tried it with work pretty well. Microsoft says 100+ games will be backwards compatable this fall. We will see how serious they are then I guess. The HDMI passthrough is a nice feature of the XB1 as well. I can be watching a ballgame or movie etc and I will get a notification if a buddy logs in. Makes it a bit easier to connect with your friends for an online session. I prefer the XB1 controller over the PS4. The PS4 controller is a huge upgrade over the PS3, whereas the XB1 is only a little better than the 360, but in my opinion the XB1 still has the edge over the PS4. The speaker in the PS4 controller is pretty neat though for some games. The XB1 is generally cheaper than the PS4. Since the PS4 has been selling better than the XB1, Microsoft has been more aggressive with price cuts ad bundle deals.
