AA'ers rule on arcade stuff don't they And uuuuuuhmmm, who's that in the #1 spot on the galaga leaderboard
-
I've bought the DOA4 stick a few weeks ago (when galaga came out ) because I didn't have the time to make my own. The stick itself is pretty ok I guess, although not entirely upto arcade quality. Standard 8 way, with proper microswitch configuration. It's movement is a bit loose, I prefer a stiffer setup, but that's personal. I am a little disappointed with the buttons though. Instead of using microswitches they went for another method , probably that rubber contact stuff you find in regular controllers. They work ok, but any arcade player would prefer microswitches.

Is that the same as the Epyx 500XJ? Who got it first? I don't know that one, but I mean this one http://www.consoledatabase.com/accessories...king/index.html and btw I totally agree on the 360 wireless controller. It's a perfect controller.

I always loved the konix speedking joystick in my c64 days. Even better control than the beloved arcade joysticks I also kinda like the GC controllers, very intuitive design. And I also think microsofts original sidewinder gamepad for the pc needs to be mentioned. One of the first and imo best digital gamepads for the pc.

Why don't you try out an emulator to try out some of the excellent amiga games and programs to help you decide? winuae is probably the best around http://www.winuae.net/

I can't even play a normal DVD on my 360 without it having audio sync problems and stutters (no, it hasn't anything to do with the 50/60 hz settings) so I'm kinda sceptic about purchasing a HD add-on.....

btw there's a guitar hero II E3 demo on gamespot (monday) http://www.gamespot.com/e3/e3live.html and boy do these guys suck big time

Also, what I still don't know: Does the wii support any hd resolutions or does it just spit out regular res widescreen graphics?
-
Wow this all looks very promising! Can't wait to try it out. That speaker in the controller is a brilliant out of the box idea. Chapeau for N! And I agree Nintendo chooses the right strategy: gameplay instead of facts&features. But this isn't really new is it? A few questions wandering in my mind: - Will the nunchaku games also support control by the normal controller? I can imagine you won't always feel 'energetic' enough to use more than your hands (Like when you're really exhausted but still want to play, but then in minimal interactive mode) - Will the entire retro library be available of the mentioned systems and will they be charging per game?
-
I went out and bought it yesterday + ps/2 after I promised myself I would sell some of those finished 360 games. Man does this rock! I've been playing all night long, and now my thumb ris really really sore I actuall finished most songs on medium, although I'm having major problems with songs like crossroads. It would be nice if there was a practice mode or 'slow down' option or someting. This game is pretty hard! But you get so much satisfaction if you nail it! I'm amazed by the quality of the covers. Very very well done. Also the guitar controller is very good and responsive. I can't seem to use the hammerons and pull offs in the songs.. I guess this is where the 'real' guitar players have the advantage? Well, best EUR 200 I've spent in some time. Glad the decided to PAL this!

Oh man! I've been THIS close to buying this game twice now! It reminds me so much of the excellent times I've had with that old IBM pc game 'Quest for Fame' (anyone?). I really loved that game. Once I played the arcade part with an actual guitar (the pc game only had a 'virtual pick') which was uber cool! This would even be cooler probably with the 5 buttons! I really really want to play this, if only I had a bleedin' ps/2 Anyone have a spare one?
-
Well it plays like the first Tomb Raider which is a good thing Excellent controls Brilliant lighting and visuals (on 360 HD that is ) Puzzles not too difficult nice extra: croft mansion let's you explore lara's mansion and discover secrets It was a good decision to let this one be designed by another company, they went back to the basics which pays off. I didn't care for the last TR's but I'm all over this one (now where is that unlockable bathing suit?)

Thinking of collecting for the Dreamcast
dgo replied to holygrailvideogames.com's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Although a bit expensive sometimes, I think the DC is still an excellent platform to collect for with it's excellent game library. Most games are still pretty cheap, about 10% is starting to get pricy. Most of those are not really rare, but just games which are popular (let's call it the Zelda effect), with the toppers going for $50-$80 The quality of the DC GD discs isn't TOO bad imo, as long as you handle them with care. (but I did have several doa's out of the box I remember). The controller ports of the console do have something of a reputation too, but on 3 DC's I didn't encounter this problem myself. You're probably going to collect the US titles? I collected the EU titles (mainly because I really don't care for the standard CD cases of US (and JAP) releases). If you do want EU titles, be sure to pick up a BIG lot of new games, just to get your hands on NEW cases. Although nicer, the EU cases are extremely fragile, and break all the time, even when you try to handle them with care. With some exceptions ,most titles are both released in US and EU, there's about 225 EU titles (I'm @ 95% ) This is the most complete list of EU/US titles I know of (in fact, I think it's complete) which comes in extremely handy http://www.pelikonepeijoonit.net/articles/dc/uniques2.html If you want it in xls, shoot me a pm.. -
This surely is amazing! Racing online on a handheld, best of mario kart series, first in the series with a good single player mode, and no fees for servers !! All right!! Just picked this up today, so I still need a lot of practice Anyways, my code is 365132 171914 Perhaps till later on the track !

Clrmamepro will tell you exactly which romsets you have or not AND i've they are complete compared to the mame version you're using. The most complete rom manager by far (and not only for mame as it works with DAT files available for loads of sets) But yes, it can't be confusing at first. But there's some FAQ for that though. DS Touch Screen Durability - One Year Later
dgo replied to Great Hierophant's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
/nintendo QA rant/ Well, I have a DS for some months now (with the grid dotted like bottom screen, appearantly there's a difference) and it had normal use, few times a week it's played on, always with the official stylus. I too, really try to play taking care. After all, you're rubbing a tft screen with a piece of plastic, something you wouldn't think off doing with any of your other handhelds. Some game however, really acquire frantic rubbing of the touch screen, (project rub / wario etc) but still I try to take care. It really, really annoys me to see that the touch screen is starting to develop scratches. Although tiny, it seems the more appear, the faster wear progresses. It's not really visible yet while playing, but clearly visible when you look under an angle, or under light. You can also feel the scrathes quite good when you rub over them with the stylus.(mostly in the middle of the screen obviously) I know, I know, 'you should get a screen protector' yes maybe, but I really don't like the reduced brightness and clarity, plus I though not to worry since I don't play it THAT much.. Anyway, I'm really disappointed with this. Although I really like the DS for it's innovative approach and games so far, it really pisses me off big time that my handheld degrades, wears off while I use it the way it was designed, even when I take more care than I feel I should playing a gaming system. Do I have to replace the system every 6 months like a freaking lightbulb? I don't know if it's the screen, or the little irregularities on the cheap mass produced styluses (are the tips entirely smooth? ) but I find this to be totally unacceptable for a new gaming system and really takes away a lot of the initial or lasting fun I found in this platform. /end rant -
O yes, that looks like it could be very well suited for this use! And yes, if you get this to work it'll be definately worth the effort! For the top drilling out a nice marble could do the job. All you need now are micro buttons, did you find those? My hands start itching again! good luck! ps do you already have the 4" screen? I'm really interested to know if the picture quality is useable...
-
very cool! What will you use for joystick for the 4" ? I've been thinking about making something that size as well, but I never found controls suitable for something that small. I'm also interested in the picture quality of that display... please post your findings! (and your results of course !)

At the local snackshop next to school, at one point there was a burgertime machine. Some guy used a stripped piezo kitchenlighter to zap this game to give credits. I rember everyone would stand around it so the shop owner wouldn't see. It worked best if you zapped the bolts on the side of the machine. Sometimes it went a little funny but it certainly gave free credits. I wonder, how did people all over the world came up with this trick? There wasn't any internet around to share these tips? Other than that, as I had barely any money at that time and age, I would just do about anything to get money to go to the arcades My favorite tricks were volunteering to go to the supermarket or something so I could skim off the change. Also when after days of begging, when we finally got some money to go to the movies and have something to eat, it always ended up in the machines.. leaving us (me and my brother) hungry and thirsty when we returned... At those days, almost EVERYTHING I did was related to getting money to go to the arcades. And I did anything to get it. Work, cheat, lie, beg, steal. Like a dope junkie needing cash..

I updated all the pics in this topic while they where pointing to files no longer on my webspace. I just love the pic attachment option since the last AA change! Also, here's two pics taken on the last Retro day in the Netherlands where the cab's been. It shows the different joystick I installed (better proportions). The I-Pac keyboard encoder I now use instead of the X-arcade junk works like a charm! (pics bij Mr-Atari)

Other than that (...) it's fantastic Ville released the source of this *great* conversion of Thrust for the Vectrex! A great help for starting Vectrex programmers ! Those who didn't play it yet should definately download the binary, also up on Villes page at http://www.emix8.org/files/vectrex/VectrexThrust_101.zip, for use in your emulator or flashcard. And although I'm in the very very beginning stages of understanding assembler (Have you got a tip for a good doc on basic assembler, mr. Tomlin?) , at least I learned there's a hidden bonusgame I didn't discover yet
