Not to rain on anybody's parade but wouldn't it be better to find a way to put in some sort of SD Card reader and save your games on an SD Card instead of relying on either the battery saves or the memory cart? Or is that not possible?

GTA V is completely open from the start. And it's a huge map too.

Especially if you have the following: --PS2 "Fatty" with Network Adapter. --IDE hard drive or, with appropriate IDE/SATA adapter (or modified Network Adapter), standard laptop drive or Solid State Drive. --Codebreaker Version 8 or above. --Compatible USB flash drive. --Free McBoot and Open PS2 Loader. --Winhiip (on the PC) for game installation.

When I wanted to write guides for the "Hitman" games years ago I wanted to start with the first one, "Codename 47". But the PC versions only used the keyboard/mouse setup and I absolutely couldn't play the games without a joypad, I had played them too much on the consoles. Xpadder was an absolute godsend and I managed to get through all four of the games at that time with no problems. I added Xpadder related information on those documents and will probably do the same to "Absolution" if I ever get around to playing the PC version. I would imagine that it works pretty well for MAME and I should try that sometime.

Not to go off-topic too much but I wrote some blog entries concerning some of my experiences: Broderbund Software LucasArts Top 10 Best (Non-Sports) Licensed Games

There is supposed to be a new Riddick movie coming out later this summer but, unfortunately, no game to tie with it. Am sad. BTW, I liked the games well enough to write guides to both EFBB and AODA for GameFAQs.

Microsoft says indie devs require a publisher.
RARusk replied to cimerians's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
Personally I think that AAFES shouldn't carry the Xbox One or anything related to it until MS changes their tune. After all, if the soldiers can't really use it then what's the point of carrying it in all of the PX's? In addition, since MS doesn't seem to be concerned about slapping the soldiers in the face, then one could consider owning an Xbox One to be unpatriotic and unsupportive of our troops. -
Definitely get Assault on Dark Athena considering that its predecessor, Escape From Butcher Bay, also comes with it. Two for the price of one.

Someone convince me that the PS1 is worthwhile

If you need further convincing that the PS1 is worthwhile try this: PS1 > Xbox 1 -

Disney puts the hammer to LucasArts :(
RARusk replied to onlysublime's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I did some testing work for them years ago and I wrote up an entry in my blog about my experiences there. This also made their closure all the more poignant for me ("Oh my God! They killed LucasArts! You bastard!"). -

Disney puts the hammer to LucasArts :(

In the fall of 1991 I was employed by LucasFilm Games as a gametester. I did work on two games: "Defenders of Dynatron City" (NES) and "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis (The Action Game) (C64, Amiga, PC - and credited within the game manual). It was a temp position and I was let go in early 1992 as these projects wound down. I tried to return to them but was unsuccessful. I left for Colorado in 1993 and haven't been back to California since. After being interviewed by Kotaku about three years ago (because of my GameFAQs work) I realized that I may be able to utilize my guides as a way to maybe return to the gaming industry. Although I have sent resumes to various companies my long term goal was to return to LucasArts Games. As you can imagine, today's news has left me deeply saddened and gutted. I understand what has happened the last few years and the possible long term benefits to this new model but this doesn't make me any less hurt. I don't know if any of these potential projects will head east to Austin. I also don't know if I should try to focus on Disney Interactive, a company I hadn't paid much attention to. Right now I am throughly bummed and the cold, gray skies outside my window perfectly match my dour mood. -

SimCity launch a complete diaster and DRM
RARusk replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
And I am sure that GearBox Software and Sega are also grateful in that it takes some of the heat off their "Aliens: Colonial Marines" fuck-up. I also believe that Tethering (On-Line DRM) needs to be made illegal. It takes away a very basic consumer right - you have the right to play your purchase anytime of the day or night and whenever you want to, even years down the line, for a single player experience. I will never allow my gaming to be held hostage that way. I will never support any product that contains any form of Tethering. If I somehow end up with such a product then I will do everything in my power to remove it. If you want me to purchase your game then you will not use Tethering. If you want me not to break your product to remove Tethering then you will not use it. End of discussion.
