I did not mean to give off a scolding vibe, and my apologizes if it came off so. I just feel people are blowing things out of proportion. At the end of the day, it's a product and no one has to buy anything.

Don't be sorry.  I've got big shoulders.  I can be quite blunt at times.  25 years in law enforcement does that to you.

Nobody is forcing you to buy anything. People bought the NES and SNES classic that had limited amount of games on them.

Believe it or not, you can look at a product and say "that's not for me" and move on.

Chill the f#&k out.  Just giving my opinion.

How is having 98% compatibility with game cartridges that are approaching 50 years old at this point even remotely considered "bad compatibility"?

People who are bothered that this stuff doesn't work with IP-stealing hacks, "homebrew ports" that require ARM chips to run have to be kidding themselves.

Because I can buy a 40+ year old 2600 that can play 100% of all games , including homebrews (ARM or not) and cheap composite mod cheaper than this emulator.  Pretty sad you call the hard working homebrew scene "IP-stealing hacks".

Now how is he gonna connect four paddle controllers to a single Atari 2600+ is the real question. 🤔

The original CX30 paddles are two paddles connected via a single DB9 port.  Joined persay.  Hence two DB9 ports .... 4 paddles.  Really only for Warlords.  A bit pricey I admit.

Not to be mean, but why does he look like someone photoshopped a face on the bottom of their big toe?

We actually use to to call his thumbnail literally looking like a 'Thumb' @Flojomojo.   It sounds weird , but it was not malice in the end.  Just an observation!  We ended up rooting for him and his Atacobox to come to reality.  Couldn't get a more passionate Atari fan.  I even posted a pic of my ugly head as a retort for feedback and memes.

Not sure what to make of this

And he did it with a junior?  Wouldn't you use a Woody for this idea? ... if that's what you want to call it that is.

I wonder what old Jon Phelan thinks! phelan.JPG.81248a9d0fbb09c25dac8f1066ed7bc7.JPG

Well .. looks like we have the answer from the Legend!  Although he does go on about the Atari VCS alot .... which we all expect.  It's his baby!  And don't forget, you may need a Babel Fish translator.  God Bless old JP!

EDIT: never mind Stella is not the issue, the dumper is as discussed elsewhere. But still remains unanswered why some F6 games do work and some don't. Also given Pitfall II uses a "non-standard" bank switching format I'm afraid there's a possibility it won't work. Unless they can build some library to detect which cartridge it is.

A broken dumper!  That does not sound good.  Maybe a dose of 'Gastro-Stop Plus' will help the problem.

Ohp!,  I just changed my Like to a Haha!   Somehow I didn't see the TACO the first time around.  I must be slipping in my old age.

On an unrelated note;  The other day a guy told me I had a nice taco,...Took me a second to realize he was talking about my Toyota TACOma which people sometimes call Tacos (heh).

I miss our old taco adventures on the old 'other' thread with the lads and ladies.  This new Atari venture is not quite on the same league by any stretch ... but still taco worthy.  Marketing needs a good kick in the ass.  If they created a true hardware based 100% compatible system that plays ALL Atari consoles/computer based systems ..... 2600, 5200, 7800, 8-Bit, ST, Falcon, XEGS ... then imo they would have a mild gold mine ... even at a premium price.  Especially for big collectors.  The system would have quite a big size foot print with cartridge slots, cd drive, 3.5 floppy drive etc ... but what a draw card for even new physical collectors.  Knowing one system literally plays all.  What about a PS that plays from 1-5,  Nintendo system that will play all.  Never going to happen and unrealistic.  Money runs the whole system.  Just speaking aloud.

The average consumer isn't going to care for stuff like that. If the device allows them to play Pitfall! or other official third-party games, that's probably all that matters.

I don't agree.  The average customer will be old farts who played the console bitd, not Gen Z or Gen Alpha .... and already have original hardware and a decent cart collection .... probably svideo or rca modded.  They will want this new 2600pus system to be able to play everything (2600, 5200, 7800) to hook them in imo.  Original, Homebrews, Mods, Starpath etc.  Else why buy it.  Just buy old, 'cheap' original hardware with a 'cheap' mod to play on modern lcds.    If they want to play Pitfall, they have to have the cart .... which means they likely already have original hardware if they have said cart.  Just makes no sense to me.

They are definitely using Stella. And based on our discussion, it seems the dumper MCU can be reprogrammed.🤞

So sad it's not FPGA based, even though as I previously aforementioned, such a weird marketing move either way.  Just another ATGames unit .... with no inbuilt games!  Anyways ...

  11. What a bizarre Atari marketing move imo.  An Atari 2600 revamp via emulation (again), 80% the size of the original, and not updated original hardware, and then you need the physical cartridges to play.  What a niche market.  40 to 60 year old grumpy old men.  Most of the enthusiast market will already have 2600s' cheaply modded for modern tvs.  So really your buying it for HDMI and then hope for the modern younger gamers to go out and buy 2600 carts, without the guarantee to play all games, homebrews etc!

Why doesn’t Taito embrace their Jungle Hunt game? Feeling burned from the Jungle King lawsuit? Or just abandoned it? The game shows up on AtGames stuff so it must be easy to license.

Bump N Jump is also known as Burning Rubber. It’s odd they don’t ride together. I guess it’s because different names serve different territories, and can’t be worth much after all these years.

Always wondered why this was so.  Marketability I assume.  Many Arcade games down here in Australia, in the 80's, had different names from the original US cabs. In Oz, Mat Mania was Exciting Hour, Bump N Jump was Burning Rubber, as noted by @Flojomojo, Ring King was King of Boxer, Kicker was Shao-Lin's Road, Mr. Heli was Battle Chopper and so on and so forth blah blah blah.

But I digress.  Now back to the agonisingly long Amico Footbath shit show.clipart1184127.png.461f6b4e70f5e4b3e3b52613d50ff419.png
