Hello!!
I recently purchased a multirom cartridge for my Vectrex and now I'm about to make the overlays.
I have seen that there are reproductions of several colleagues in the forum and sales through ebay... but I wanted something that was really cheap.
After looking for the necessary materials and my almost zero knowledge of printing and image modification, here is my first overlay.
Doing calculations... I can say that each overlay costs €1
Materials: Color/laser printer (I think we all have some kind of printer), laminating machine, transparent printable sheets, sheets for the laminator, cutex, scissors and ruler.
You must have a home laminating machine (the cheapest on Amazon €20).Remember: I have looked for the cheapest way possible to make an overlay that does its job. It is normal, that with other higher quality materials... the result will be better. But I assure you that with the cost of €1 you can already play.
Printer consumption (ink): €0.15/overlay
Transparent sheet: €0.70/sheet
Laminating sheet: €0.15/sheet
They look great from the picture. What was the process you followed to get the right colours/size?

The site has stopped notifying me about new posts. I think Gmail spam has got a bit over zealous. So I'm surprised there are some carts left.
Anyway, looks great. Ordered!

Late to the party on this one, but at least not missed it.
Wow. This looks excellent, really looking forward to giving you some cash for it.
Thank you for also being of the mind to making extra batches and considering pcb only and digital releases. It will be good not having to notice it's available at the exact hour or miss out forever (or spend £££s on eBay) as this has classic written all over it.

I admire the endeavour and love the look of the cassette package.
But I don't think I could listen to the whole album!

Is there any good prebuild image for the Pitrex? Anything where you just can put your Roms in it?
I would love to be able to play the star Wars Game, but i have not the slightes Idea of programming....Star Wars for me is also the holy grail.
From the videos I've seen so far you are going to be disappointed right now if that is your main goal as it's not ready. I imagine it is the most complicated to get running well.
It's exciting we have projects like that coming.

I bought one from the recent regular (non-dev) batch and this thing is amazing. I've calibrated my Vectrex consoles before, but the PiTrex calibration settings make it look better ever. This brings new life to the Vectrex, not just for devs but for any Vectrex owner. I can't recommend it enough. The Vectrex library was already great, but being able to play some of the original vector arcade titles on the Vectrex is pretty amazing.
Thanks to all of the developers that made the PiTrex possible.
Excellent, I hadn't realised consumer versions were now available.
A quick look around and the work Malban is doing is incredible. Seeing versions of Star Wars and Elite gave me a warm (vector) glow.

Is there a reason, other than madness, that the Packrat version would be so valuable?

I don't get the love for Discord, isn't t just like a chat room?
I know you can search it and people can be very helpful if around, but it just seems like a difficult mess for finding information.
Or am I missing something?

I cracked and ordered myself a copy. This time I got an option for flat rate postage ( which I didn't get last time unless I missed it),so the total cost was $77 instead of $109.
That's a lot cheaper than buying in the original batch from Europe to the UK! Of course you may get hit with customs - and you now might from the EU too
Is there any difference between the versions, is there something to distinguish the limit nature of those from the maker?

Looks a great version, especially with the overlay, but I just never found Joust fun. I guess because I was rubbish at it!

How about a funky PCB version of Stramash Zone?

Thanks. You'll get some Paypal shortly! I understand on the making to order delays.

Excellent! Looks cool.
I had been meaning to contact you about a UV frame, are they available? How much to add a 5V one with UK postage?
-
I don't do facebook so just keep a eye on here really. So much appreciated.

What an amazing find.
Well done!
And thanks for making the effort to get it out there to the World rather than just profiteering. I'm sure you can do that after!
(And if you are just reporting it, thank you, and thanks to the finder)

Yes it seems that they are a different in price.
All I can say is, I'm glad I got mine when I did in 2013. £129 for a loose console and Minestorm overlay plus six CIB games and second controller, and that was including postage too. The seller packed it all incredibly well too.
I have no idea when I got mine, £90 rings a bell and I seem to remember that hurt at the time. I've got a copy of Protector from the original batch (quick google) so it must have been before 2003...
@Lord InnitDo we need a Vectrex Vestibule?

Was the Vectrex more popular in the UK/Europe than the US?
They seem pretty easy to get and reading the above the prices seem a fair bit lower.

Cool.
Well I'll just hope the smart people out there that did it with a Fever will try with this.

too early to answer that. depends on whether you can drive a big display from a Vectrex and whether that specific emulation can be made to run fast enough - it's not one of the ones we've handled yet.
I still meant on the Vectrex display, I was able to source a yoke not the whole thing. (and have no where I'd be allowed to put a cabinet even if I could afford it).
Like this on the vecfever (who needs Squadrons in VR when you can have a UV Vectrex!)...

Wow, fantastic news. Well done.
Don't have time to develop, I'll get back to that in retirement, so I'll watch this space with interest to see what all the great devs come up with.
One questions, can Star Wars arcade run on it and can I then hook my real yoke up? I've seen it done on VecFever, but didn't have the £1400+ to get one of those!

With all the cool options out now, I can't play without an overlay.. It's a must have, for me anyway. For the ultimate Vectrex overlay experience, I also highly recommend getting the UV Overlay Frame from James @ Clockwork Robot and the companion Blacklighter UV Overlays by Laurence. Have fun!
https://www.blacklighter.co.uk/
https://www.clockworkrobot.com
Which frame do you have?
I'd prefer the 5v self powered option, but wondering if you need the extra LEDs?
The overlays are fantastic, but like everything Vectrex getting a few of them and a UV frame is not cheap!

I’m thinking about cashing in my 401k, so
. I was going to do something stupid with the money and buy a car. This is probably a better investment at this point.
I would fear the VF2 coming out and the value crashing.
I'm hoping things like the PiTrex will give those of us with normal budgets/genuine desire to use the device the VF functionality we crave.
It's now at £478 which is too much for me to play Star Wars on a vector monitor with my genuine Atari yoke...

For those with deep Vectrex pockets, a VecFever has just gone on eBay (UK, but ships worldwide):

Gone to £205 in the first 8 hours, with 9.5 days to go.

Crazily over the top! But if you have the space and the cash then go for it.
Love it!
