I got lucky too, I think there must have been some drop outs as only just got an email about it and I wasn't an original yes.
Just in time to get someone else to pay for it as a birthday present too!

Thanks for posting this here, I've really tried to avoid social media where possible, so haven't joined the facebook group.
Saw this a bit late, and there were only 7 in this batch, so missed out. Although I'm not active enough to do enough with it to deserve an early one anyway.
It all looks very interesting though.

Wow. Nice touch.
Thank you very much.
And a Merry Christmas to you too.

Also we tried selling roms as an experiment, very few were sold. I think you guys are vastly over estimating the size of the vectrex rom market.
Lastly it just invites people to share the roms rather than buying them.I agree with all you say and understand.
I don't think ROMs are a big market and yes they are too easy to share, but people are also pirating and making more out of the carts too it seems (although I had no idea there were bootlegs out there).
And yes, I'd rather have the overlay and real thing.
But all to often it's not an option, as the whole production is too much for the average programmer to do more than a couple of times then the only option for those who aren't in the know/lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time to order is to either not have or give someone other than the creator a big profit on eBay.
(Of course we have no right to 'have', but often the window of opportunity is so fleeting and there is often those out there who'll just buy for the future profit that make it even smaller...)
If it's not a commercial concern then it's better to have the ROM out there so others aren't making off it illegally and those that really care will still by the boxed/overly version...
Can't argue against the control freak bit though!

Maybe you should stick to those free games on itch.io then.
I think we have a lost in translation issue here.
As far as I can tell darknior wants to buy the games but wants the image so he can play it on an emulator.
It is a shame a lot of games aren't sold as images as there are many you can't get hold of as they are only sold as limited cart runs and unless you know about it early you're then stuck with nothing or massive eBay markups that don't actually help the creator.
I'd love to play Starmash Zone from ClockworkRobot on my Vectrex, but that is impossible. I'd happily pay the author for the image if he isn't going to produce any more carts.

Thanks for the update, that sounds great.
An all in one cart is obviously the goal in terms of simplicity, but does that also mean you could essentially just produce a cable and we could use a normal Pi setup?

I would expect so. Wasn't aware of Star Wars on the VecFever unless you mean in terminal mode and hosted on another computer with MAME?
Ah yes, got confused, sorry.
Star Wars isn't on the list of games directly emulated by the version of MAME for the VecFever. Those appear to be:
Asteriods, Asteroids Deluxe, Battle Zone, Luna Lander Red Barob, Space Duel, Tail Gunner and Tempest.

Well if you want to help, go fetch http://www.brouhaha.com/~eric/software/vecsim/ and see if you can add Star Wars to it - it's partly in there but looks like it was never finished.
G
Sadly I wouldn't even know where to start.
Would the work done on the VecFever to run Star Wars be reproducible on the Pi?

and we do have Tailgunner sort of running on the cartridge, though there are a few small timing issues to be sorted out before we can release it.
I don't quite get the love for Tailgunner, although can see that it is something easier to port to the Vectrex.
Now the question, for me at least, is can you do Star Wars on it...?

so I spun off yet another project to build new cartridges that could run arcade vector games in emulation. It's called the "PiTrex" because it mounts a Raspberry Pi Zero on a Vectrex cartridge, and drives the Vectrex from the Pi.
Astounding. What the community around the Vectrex continues to achieve is really quite incredible.
And all hail the Raspberry Pi!

That's genius!

It's a vecfever cart with added serial port hooked to a computer running mame displaying the game on a vectrex

That's incredible.
I have a completely unused HP Stream 7 sitting here that is in need to a project. (At the time it was cheaper to buy the tablet with a free year of Office 365 than buying Office 365!)
Of course the odds of getting a VecFever mean it will likely sit for a long time...

I am tempted to pick up one of these, just in case, partly because as soon as something interesting happens it will probably be unavailable and $1000 on eBay...
There is the suggestion it could be used like a VecFever to support MAME as others have done to display vector games, which would be enough of a selling point for me as Fevers don't seem to be available any time soon. It just needs someone clever enough to do it...
-
Well, I've just seen I've been registered and lurking here on and off for 15 years without a post!
so a couple of years not watching the Vectrex scene and WOW, it's gone mad. So many clever people doing amazing things.
I'm replying here as I look around the recent scene and realise I NEED a VecFever but don't have the bank balance to go the eBay route, so hopefully some new ones will be released. Looks like some of my old purchases are now worth quite a lot, but then so are all the ones I've missed and now want.
I think the images of someone playing MAME Star Wars with a yoke on the Vectrex really tipped the need especially as I recently managed to acquire a real yoke...

Not sure I fancy the game, but 10/10 for effort on the packaging/presentation!
