  1. Even if someone who has one of these was able to measure any voltage on pins 2,3,4 of the pal encoder I'd be most grateful. It would at least give me some idea as to if the problem is where I suspect.
  2. I recently picked up a videopac G7000 with 3 games but I'm really struggling to identify why there is no picture. I'm fairly confident that the system is working. For example if I insert a cartridge and hook up my speakers to the audio output from the motherboard I get sound and if I start a game I can hear it running correctly. The video though... Poking around the PAL encoder there is nothing on pin 5 which should be composite out. I've been using the schematics (linked below) to try and work out what's happening but not getting that far as my board is a different revision to that in this. https://ia803206.us.archive.org/14/items/G7000_Service_Manual_198x_Philips_M6/G7000_Service_Manual_198x_Philips_M6.pdf Working from that schematic I can see signals on most pins on the PAL except for Burst, B-Y and R-Y. Well there are signals there, 4.4mhz as the schematic suggests, but they are very weak less than 100mv. Thing is I'm not sure what these should be. I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice as to what to test or even if they knew what the burst, b-y and r-y signals should be at? I'm tempted to just go with an RGB mod and bypass all the existing video output circuitry but I'd rather have it working.
  3. I picked up a cheap FZ-1 a while back on ebay as a spares repairs unit with a suspected dead spindle motor but I'm fairly sure its actually the laser that's dead. Discs don't spin but as I understand it the motor won't spin up unless the laser sees a disc and since there is no infrared light coming from the laser it ain't going to see much. Anyway this is the stumbling block. Getting a new laser seems next to impossible. I've ordered a SF92.5 11/4 pickup but its the type with the long cables so needs modified to work on the 3DO but I have found some conflicting information as to what to modify. Initially it seems as just the 4pin ribbon needs modified to but I have since found information on a russian forum that suggests its the 11pin cable that needs modified. So.... The 4 pin cable is to wide to fit in the connector on the 3DO. Can I simply cut this down to suit? I'm waiting for the pickup to arrive but from pictures it seems the same but with wings on the sides, could I just cut these off? The 11 pin cable does anyone know if it needs modified or if it will work as is? I've seen that a blob of solder on the ribbon needs removed (no problem) but the information from the russian forum suggest that the pinout is incorrect. I've also seen people suggest it is better to take both laser pickups to bits and make 1 good working unit from the cradle of the bad pickup and the laser of the good one. Not sure about this though, it might go a bit above my soldering skills. The 3DO looks very nice sitting on my shelf but it would be even nicer if it work! Any help would be greatly appreicated.
  4. I'll have another go at the TV tuning and maybe try to post a video link (if I can) showing the problem.
  5. Being 36 I'm somewhat embarrassed to say I only recently in the last month got my first 2600. Someone local was giving it away so being a part time collector (is that even a thing) of consoles I jumped on it. Nice 2600 junior and a handful of games. Moon Patrol and Centipede being my favorites by far. The Junior is a great machine but last week the another console popped up, this time for £10, and its the above mentioned 6 switch wood grain 2600. Was sold as seen having lay in the ladies roof space for some years. The layer of dust more than confirmed this. Anyway, brought it home, took it apart, gave it a good clean but it doesn't work properly. The games appear to start but the graphics scroll on the screen, are missing nearly all detail and there is no sound. In the likes of moon patrol I can see the ground and a part of the ship, if I press the button you can tell that the games running OK as the graphics start to move as they should. My initial thought was dirt as being honest the junior when I first got it has similar problems but after a good clean it came back to life. I've cleaned the woody as best as I can though and its no better. So far I've done: - Cleaned as best I can without desoldering the cartridge port - Re-seated the 3 chips (they are all in sockets) - Re-flowed the cartridge and all chip sockets - Tested the voltage regulator, its putting out 4.9v so should be ok. My best guess now is one of the chips is dead, maybe the graphics one? Sorry but I'm not good with the names of them yet. I suppose I could desolder these from the junior and try but I don't really want to risk killing another console. Sorry for the long winded post but I'd be keen to pick the brains of the community and learn what else I should be looking for.
