    The NT mini as you mention has the NES cart stability issue.   It was bad enough that I swithced to using my famicom everdrive for the most part instead of an NES one, just because famicom carts are considerably more stable in it due to their lower center of gravity.

    Most of the time I just use everdrives, a famicom one for the Nt mini

    Why not just use the JB firmware for NES (and other core) ROM loading from the SD card? I just use the cart slot for my FDS RAM Adapter.

    =========================================

    Pre VA7 Genesis Model 1:

    These consoles sport a YM2612 for FM audio and require the ladder effect to sound right. At this

    point, it is not currently possible to 100% accurately simulate the characteristics of the low-pass

    filter in these revisions due to how the Mega SG low-pass filter currently behaves. So here's the closest

    we can get under the current limitations of the Mega Sg's low-pass filter:

    Ladder Effect Depth = 3

    YM2612 High Quality Audio Mode = unchecked

    LPF settings:

    Cutoff Frequency = 3400

    Rolloff Rate = 15

    Check all filtering boxes

    Channel Volume Settings:

    YML = 100

    YMR = 100

    Square 1 = 32

    Square 2 = 32

    Square 3 = 32

    Noise = 29

    =======================================

    M1 Va7 & M2:

    With the exception of two revisions of the Genesis model 2, all Genesis revisions since the VA7

    Genesis model 1 replace the YM2612 with a YM3438, which lacks the ladder effect. The low-pass

    filter has been modified as well to add an extra filter stage to the FM output. It cannot be 100%

    accurately replicated, but we can do a rough approximation using the Mega SG’s current low-pass filter.

    This approximation is based on the filter setup found on the VA3 Genesis model 2.

    Ladder Effect Depth = 0

    YM2612 High Quality Audio Mode = unchecked

    LPF Settings: Same as pre VA7 Model 1 consoles.

    LPF Settings for M2 VA3: uncheck everything except the YM channels

    Channel Volume Settings: Same as pre VA7 M1 consoles.

    Channel Volume Settings for M2 VA3: 100, 100, 20, 20, 20, 17

    ========================================

    CDX

    While the CDX is based around the same base components as early Genesis model 2s, its low-pass

    filter is not as strong, resulting in a slightly less muffled sound and its PSG/FM mix has quieter PSG

    than other revisions. Here's how we can approximate this:

    Ladder Effect Depth = 0

    YM2612 High Quality Audio Mode = unchecked

    LPF Settings: 5400, 26, only YML and YMR checked.

    Channel Volume Settings: 100, 100, 18, 18, 18, 16

    ========================================

    X'Eye

    Like the CDX, its base hardware is the same as early Genesis Model 2s, though its low-pass filter is

    harsher and more muffled, and its PSG/FM mix has PSG mixed in noticeably louder than other

    revisions. So we have to approximate this as follows:

    Ladder Effect Depth = 0

    YM2612 High Quality Audio Mode = unchecked

    LPF Settings: 3800, 24, only YML and YMR checked.

    Channel Volume Settings: 100, 100, 25, 25, 25, 23

    Master System Audio:

    Channel Levels:

    Square 1 = 45

    Square 2 = 45

    Square 3 = 45

    Noise = 42

    YM2413 L = 53

    YM2413 R = 53

    NO LPF

    ========================================

    Game Gear Audio:

    Adjust Panning to max out -100/+100 for all channels

    Channel levels

    SQR1 L = 45

    SQR1 R = 45

    SQR2 L = 45

    SQR2 R = 45

    SQR3 L = 45

    SQR3 R = 45

    Noise L = 42

    Noise R = 42

    No LPF

    =========================================

    Colecovision Audio:

    By default, Colecovision games have some panning applied to the channels.

    Start by setting all channel panning to 0.

    Channel levels:

    Square 1 = 45

    Square 2 = 45

    Square 3 = 45

    Noise = 42

    SGM 1 = 45

    Does he have his recommended settings for everything else posted somewhere? If so, I must've missed it, but if you could share that would be great!

    NOTE: FBX adjusted his 5x/720p GG horizontal width by 1 pixel so now it is a perfect integer scale and horizontal interpolation can now be disabled for it.

  5. Per FirebrandX:

    Was made aware of a Sega Technical manual that has very precise measurements of the Game Gear screen, so the actual AR is 1.3348:1. Below are my new recommended Mega Sg GG settings:

    1080 mode:

    1345x1008 enable H, disable V

    720 mode:

    961x720 enable H, disable V

  6. So I have a few things to report. First, I got my new SMS adapter today and it is working as it should, so we can put that issue to bed. However, I'm seeing odd behavior with Wonder Boy III FM. First, I'll start by saying that the hack in the Smokemonster pack works fine played through the jailbreak. Finally! I still cannot get the same ROM to work in any configuration on my Nt Mini though, so I'm stumped as to what the issue there is. Has anyone been able to get FM sound to work for Wonder Boy III on the Mini?

    With that said, I then tried to get it to work with my cart, but no matter what I do I can't get it to work with the cartridge. I tried all 4 of the BIOS files that I transferred over from my Nt Mini pack, but none work. In fact, I don't see any difference at all. When you load the different BIOS files on the Mini the startup behavior changes for some of them. Can anyone else confirm this behavior? Lastly, maybe I just have this whole thing wrong (since I had spent a lot of time and had a few different modders look at the FM mod on my SMS which wouldn't work for Wonder Boy III either), but is it not possible to get FM sound from a US Wonder Boy III cart? From what I remember reading it is, but I can't get it to work on my modded SMS, nor can I get it to work on the Mega Sg. All that said though, I was finally able to find a way to get it (ROM hack through the Mega Sg jailbreak), but it seems odd to me and I'd still like to get it working on my actual SMS at some point.

    I was never able to get the FM sound to work for that game on the NT Mini jailbreak. I tried all sorts of permutations of enabling/disabling FM sound, Export, etc. If you ever get it working, please let me know.

  7. SmokeMonster says that all his verified ROMs come from the No Intro set... ateast for other platforms. Not sure why Genesis would be different. I just moved my SD card over from the Mega Everdrive X5 and tweaked the folder arrangement as suggested by the JB notes and it’s played everything from my SD card I’ve tried so far. My Genesis Smokemonster set hasn’t been updated since 2017 so unless something major changed since the. I’d expect his more current sets to work just as well.

    I'd say at least half (I checked) of the Colecovision roms in the latest smokemonster packs do not match no-intro. I think it's because much better dumps were provided by the community a couple months ago. The coleco set here currently matches no-intro 100%: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228832-cv-rom-update-project-commercial-releases-v12/

  8. Can someone explain the technical reason why the patched version of Duck Hunt VS (v2.1 by Morgan Johansson) works on a real NES (albeit with a Hi-Def kit also installed) via an Everdrive N8, but does not with the NT Mini? In both cases, they are connected to a CRT via analog connections.

    I reported this issue awhile back.

  9. Hey all - long time, I need to catch up on this thread ;-)

    Had a question about Nt Mini - playing Vs. Duck Hunt , the patched arcade rom that allows you to play it on NES systems (Similar to what was being sold here: https://www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=96)

    I'm just trying rom images at this point, both on Everdrive and the NT Mini SD card -

    I can't get the gun to register at all and get stuck at "shoot to select 1 or 2 player" -

    Has anyone or could anyone try running this? My NT Mini plays regular duck hunt and other gun games fine. I'm trying to rule out if its a NT Mini issue.

    Any info appreciated - thanks!!

    I believe I had the same issue; I remember it working on my Everdrive with my original NES and Hi-Def modded NES (each connected via composite to a CRT TV). I was never able to get it to work on the NT Mini with either the Everdrive or from the SD slot via JB firmware. I can try again and report back.

  10. Is there a way to remap buttons on the Super NT? I have never noticed it, so I assume no.

    I don't really have the need there, but I'm asking since I do foresee it being useful in my instance on the Mega SG. I have an arcade stick that I'd like to use from time to time which isn't a native Sega accessory. It will have to be connected via a Wiimote and the upcoming 8BitDo Bluetooth Retro Receiver that I saw mentioned around here.

    Since I suspect the chances of buttons being mapped how I like isn't good, I'm hoping there's a configuration menu I'm unaware of on the Super NT or that perhaps one might be planned for the feature-set of the Mega SG. My arcade stick has real arcade components, unlike my old ASCII FightStick for the Genesis, so I'd really like to be able to make best use of it here.

    If not, does 8BitDo offer button customization options with their recent firmware? That would get the job done as well.

    Consider picking one of these Genesis arcade sticks with Sanwa components: https://twitter.com/benjedwards/status/1052222110385545217?s=21
