  1. So I've finally received my RAM adapter today and wanted to try it out with this: http://magicwildcard.com/

which is basically a microSD version of the FDS Stick. The RAM adapter itself works fine, as does the Magic Wild Card since both loaded without issues on two different AV Famicom consoles.

However, when trying to use them on the NT Mini on the other hand, i'm getting this:

I guess I got unlucky and picked one of the revisions that doesn't play nicely with the NT Mini...

Anyone got any other ideas on what the problem could be?

Also, mine is one of the ealier models of RAM adapters with a smooth top shell. For anyone who has one and an Nt Mini without issues, what kind do you have?

Are Analogue / Kevtris aware of this? Have they said anything about maybe fixing it in the future? I know Kevtris is busy right now and I'm not trying to push for an update immediate but a fix sometime in the future would be appreciated.

Could you try out the following and report back the BIOS version? I suspect it is the older one?

  2. Is there a way to do this and carry forward games that you have via game sharing?

I have Gran Turismo HD via this method, which was a freebie that was delisted by 2008 when I bought my PS3. Not a big loss if I couldn't, but I'd love to carry it forward without bothering the nice guy at another forum that let me download it from his account back in the days when Sony actually encouraged game sharing.

80 gigs of storage like my first PS3 has is awfully restrictive these days and I don't have room now to install larger disc releases thanks to so many downloads on it.

I'm curious if you found the answer to this question; did you try upgrading your drive, and if so, did the backup carry forward delisted content?

  3.

It depends on which sound engine you are using. If you are using the Nt Mini's built-in FDS audio, the sound won't play regardless of how you run the game. If you use the ED N8's FDS audio, it will make sound but that sound may not be right.

I dunno, I remember having the same issue with the latest firmware version on the HiDef NES with the Everdrive N8 and FDS audio with Metroid doors. The moment I reverted back to an older HiDef NES firmware, it made the sound again (I can't say it was 100% correct but it was better than nothing).

  4. I added it but I'm not familiar enough to know if the FDS audio is still garbage or not.

In the FDS version of Metroid, if you shoot a door, the door opening sound is absent on the latest version of the NT Mini with the last release build of the Everdrive N8 firmware. Does this symptom still occur with this beta N8 firmware?

  5. So he goes through the trouble of changing the settings depending on certain games? I.E. 5X being no good for Super Castlevania IV.

Also square pixels looks too narrow to me. Didn't some games change the graphics to adjust for the CRT widening the aspect ratios a bit?

He uses square pixels for Gameboy because that handheld display wasn't a CRT. He adjusts it to compensate for the CRT widening when he changes his 5x width from 1280 to 1462 when switching from GB to SNES.
  6. Have a question. It's nothing wrong with the Super Nt BUT i brought a HDMI switch -> 2 inputs 1 output.

Hooked up a HiDef NES and a Super NT.

Both can be powered on at the same time, last signal counts. Also there is a manual toggle.

The HiDef works fine, but the Super Nt needs the HiDef to be powered on to use that input. If I just have the Super Nt the HDMI switch doesnt register an input.

What's the difference between the signals between the systems? Using 60hz@1080p on both. EDID enabled on hidef, and DVI-mode off.

Cant see any settings like that on the SNT.

Clarification, SuperNT works fine on a dedicated port straight into my monitor.

I am also using a 3 input, 1 output pigtail HDMI switch that auto-switches but also has the manual input switch. With a Super NT and PS3 connected, it works perfectly, even when the PS3 is completely powered down (physical power switch off on the back) or absent. Have you tried connecting something other than the NT Mini along side the Super NT on that switch?
  7. Yeah I'm not sure why everyone thinks this would sell tons. I'd definitely like to see them make it but with the second NT Mini preorders being open as long as they were coupled with the continued availability of the AVS, I'm not sure the demand is truly there. If they made one, and the core store got ported, I'd probably buy it so my OG NT Mini could stay permanently hooked up to the CRT. Maybe.

Why not keep it permanent connected now? I keep my NT Mini connected to both my CRT and LCD at the same time, with only one of the displays turned at any given time.

  8. I never said I wanted the $499 nt mini. I've been saying all along a cheaper plastic nt mini would be the way to go. It could be done cheaply too, but analogue choose not too :( After this last round on super nt's they could do a late summer, early fall cheap plastic nt mini model. They would sell loads.

I don't know about loads. The last batch of NT Mini last year took several months to sell out. Most people that badly wanted one had ample opportunity to buy one and already did. Most casual users are content with the AVS or other clones.

  9.

This piqued my curiosity. I couldn't get it to work either using roms from a certain someone's pack.

This is probably a bad time to bring this up given all the other conversation, but I don't recall seeing anything about this earlier in the thread. What I want to know is if it's possible to play Wonder Boy III with FM sound on the Mini? I know the US version of the game is supposed to work with the FM mod and switched to the japanese region (although I can't seem to get it to work on my modded SMS, but that's another story....), but I can't figure out a way to get it to work on the Mini and I've tried all of the different BIOS, with the FM sound enabled too of course. Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone figured out how to enable FM sound with Wonder Boy III from the smokemonster pack? I was able to get it to work with the older SMS Wonder Boy game in the series.

  10. Okay, thanks!

I knew he didn't implement it before but wasn't sure if that's changed. I may go the route of the FDSStick.

There is still a bug with the latest versions of the JB and the HiDef NES firmware where the sound of the doors opening and closing in FDS Metroid are absent when using the Everdrive N8. This doesn't occur on older firmwares. Last year I got an FDSStick and FDS RAM Adapter and they work perfectly with the NT Mini.
  11. Im using the 720p option. Why didn't they let you extend the height more then 720 SO I can fill the screen? They let you extend past 1080 fight in 1080p mode. Im on firmware 4.0.

Probably because 720 is a nice clean multiple of 240. The next multiple of 960 would probably discard too many rows to be practical.

  12. Mine randomly turns on and off, when it's connected to the TV USB Port while the TV is off. Seems like the TV power cycles the USB Ports from time to time... It's fine when the TV is on, but I also don't like that the TV turns the SuperNt on when I just want to watch a movie or something. Enabling the TV's USB-Charge function doesn't change that, although it's supposed to keep the USB ports powered all the time. Often I see the SuperNt's power LED lit when the TV isn't even on. So for now i'm using the USB 3.0 port on my Xbox One which doesn't power cycle all the time...

Do you have a Chromecast, and if so, does the same symptom happen when you are using it while powered by the TV's USB?

  13. OK, I so habitually turn off my TV when I leave the room, and back on when I return, that I don't even think about what I'm doing. It's basically subconscious. Been doing it ever since I got a plasma ten years ago, to avoid burn-in from static elements.

So, yeah, the NT was turning off because I turn the TV off. Feature, not a bug.

I paused a game on the SD2SNES on the Super NT for several hours while the TV was off. Everything still worked fine after I turned my TV back on and unpaused the game.
  14. Do you prefer the look of scanlines in 1080p vs 720p? When I use scanlines on 1080p they never seem to look right and the text gets lines through it. When I use the scanlines on 720 it looks more natural with the scanlines not going through text when using hybrid scanlines. I might just need to mess with it more

Have you tried adjusting vertical position?

I am using vertical position 54, horizontal position 38, width 1462, height 1200. Disabled vertical interpolation. Scanlines line up well but if you change the vertical position the scanlines won't line up correctly.
