It isn't always that regular, but there is almost always at least 1 games bundle available.  Keep watching.

Yeah and you don't have to do a mystery bundle, at any time they have many bundles, some of them build your own. Usually, the mystery bundles will yield way more than what you spend, but sometimes, too many dupes can ruin that, I will often do them once a quarter, and wind up with dupes all the time.  I don't mind trading of giving them away if someone is interested.

  2. I use Fanatical and do the mystery bundles.

You don't know what you're getting, and often times I get dupes, I just note them in a text file when I do.

I might even have more than the ones I listed, I'll have to check my document folder.

Looking through your list now wongojack.

So a lot of those were fun at the time but didn't hold up.

Maybe but, I personally think many of the earliest Activision games weren't fun even at the time (at least to me) but for sure others were and did hold up and are some of the funnest games on the systems. Then and now. You mentioned some of the great ones yourself. Kaboom, Keystone Kapers, even Fishing Derby. I loved Fishing Derby. Unique gameplay. It had vs the CPU and even more fun vs a real opponent. Still a lot of those early games just bored me, they had a lot of the same type games, flicker free, but yawn fests. Sky jinks: Fry plane upwards, go between pylons. Skiing: Ski downwards, go between pylons. Barnstorming: Fly to the right go up and down and avoid stuff. Grand Prix: Drive to the right go up and down to avoid stuff. It also didn't help I wasn't a sports fan. So boxing, tennis, and hocky I just thought they were super boring as well. But all that said, if anything I think they are all more impressive now, just knowing the limitations of the system, and how good they look.

I would say Activision was the best 3rd party producer of Atari. Ironic because they were also the first to break away from Atari, although maybe not ironic, they were the best programmers of the 2600 at the time, pissed they weren't being acknowledged or compensated properly for their work. Honestly, I think Pitfall 2 might be the game I was most impressed with back in the day. It genuinely amazed me, the HUGE world, swimming, falling down waterfalls!!? And that song, amazing to me, shocking, especially since I found the original so bland.

    Activision for the win!!

I've told this story before, but I remember when I got my first PC in the 90s,  I found the Activision Anthology and instantly bought it.   I was excited to play those games again.

But then I did, and immediately realized that most of those games were boring, the gameplay didn't hold up

Tell that story every year zzip, we're mostly old men who can't remember why we walked into a room, so feel free to remind us!

I agree earliest Activision was pretty bland. I wasn't even a HUGE fan of Pitfall at that time which came a bit later, and don't get me started on Laser Blast. YAWN

As an adult I can appreciate the time they took to make sure games were flicker free, but as a kid, there first games they released were mostly snooze fests.

I do wonder if @HardWork follows this thread?   L@@k I'm tagging him in!  I hope he drops by to say hello,.,,Maybe let us know he's not dead or anything.

Sadly, he sent me a PM and let me know he was dead.

My bumping of this thread was a cruel joke and now that it's 2024 I can state that because of my New Years resolution... I resolve to not be douchy in 2024.

As of this post I've kept my resolution for 1 hour and 18 minutes.

Oh wait.... Never mind, I've already blown it.

  8. I know this is an old thread, but I was just going through the awesome content on the Atari 50th Anniversary Edition and came across the "Official" Atari Handshake in the High's and Lows section. I vaguely remembered this, I would get the magazine as a kid and loved it. My memories at that time, was that this was an AWESOME handshake, although admittedly, I had no clue about masturbation at that time, I pretty much forgot about it, and have never used it.

That said. Has anyone ever actually done this "Official" handshake? Like at a gaming convention? Does Atari still use this handshake, like at their corporate meetings? Now that Alberts on the inside, he probably could answer this.

    I've been a member since 2002 (Jesus...),

Same here and I agree with a lot of what you said. One thing that is for certain in my world, Albert has for decades been the face of Atari for me, even as "legit" Atari existed in other places on the internet. It's hilarious that after all these many, many years, he's actually an Atari employee! I'm excited to see where this all goes, but if it goes no-where, nothing will change. Albert IS the man that brought us all together and gave everyone here all the Atari they could ever want. Nothing can take that away. I personally don't see it dying soon even if "legit" Atari does "die"... rabid classic video game freaks will always have a place in this world.

That said, this merger is a positive thing. I'm baffled as to why anyone would say otherwise. I think the older people get, the more of a negative outlook they acquire.

"Change of any kind is a bad thing."  All the negative comments might just be old people saying old people things?

  10. I know recently there was a big last chance sale in the Atari Age store. I'm guessing that had something to do with this merger. Now that Atari "owns" Atari Age, are they planning on some big revamp in the AA Store? Is that what drove all of this? It would be cool if Atari had plans to utilize the guys who have been homebrewing Atari game for the past 20 years and release official new Atari 2600 software. Some of those old "What Might Have Been" mockups I would do of Atari arcade games never ported to the 2600 could probably be made now, and sequels...ohhh yes awesome Atari sequels.

  11. Looks cool, and I'd be tempted, but I still remember pre-ordering Borderlands 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, both of which were unfinished when they came out but cost full price,

I actually returned Borderlands 3, waited a few months and then rebought it when it was actually stable to play, and it cost me half the price.

I have no doubt I'll get this eventually, although 130 hours before the game actually starts? That just sounds dumb to me. Why not let players start when they push the start button? LOL

  12. Never bought a 5200 when they hit the market. My friend Mike had one when they first came out. He also had the 2600 adapter (he had to have his system modified to use it) . We'd play 5200 games for a bit and then eventually switch over to 2600 games because we both had lots and lots of 2600s games! A few years later we both went to separate high schools. At some point he asked if I wanted the 5200 with all the games (about 10) , and I said YES!!! Still have it, and the 2600 adapter and games to this day!

  13. Wow. Totally amazing!

Back when I had a working Vectrex there were a bunch of songs (Doctor Who theme, Star Wars theme, etc...) you could download and put on a multi cart and just play through your Vectrex.

I did this often. It's fun to play games, but sometimes it's just as fun to kick back and marvel at the current technology for "ancient" video game systems.

I love this! Thanks for sharing.

  14. I hooked up an old 360 and took it online a few weeks ago. Didn't really play any games online though.

It was one I had made my "primary" system so I could play games offline. Many of the games were playable offline, but no pictures show up when browsing the games.

There were some games not playable. I wound up putting it online and many apps no longer are supported. Amazon Video for example. I think YouTube was still working. Browsing the store, there were only about 16 apps left from what I recall. Stuff like some of the free streaming sites, maybe The History Channel.  I want to hook up more than one 360 and see if the system link stuff still works.

Starfield will be my first 'day-one' modern game purchase since Cyberpunk.

I stand corrected, Cyberpunk was the last game I pre-ordered. Again, another game released but not quite finished. They did eventually fix the problems and it's now a solid experience. Going forward I'll wait a couple months for any game to let the developers actually finish the game. Starfield does look amazing though. I'll be keeping my eye out for the reviews!

  16. I love Dead Island. There I said it. When I first heard of the game, my first thought was sounds like Left 4 Dead, and why do we need another 4 player co-op zombie game?

Then the game came out and I was hooked from the get-go. 4 Player co-op but in a VERY open world, unlike L4D which was cool in it's own right, but very linear. I though it was amazing you could be on one side of this huge, gorgeous island and your friend could be miles away each of you doing your thing.

I'm still playing the first game (the remastered version now on Xbox X) and I'm like level 54. It reminds me of a bad B-movie from the 80s. Bad acting, silly scenarios, it's just fun. I'm addicted to it I think. Anyone else like this game? Or if you think it sucks, why?

I saw there was a sequel that FINALLY released after years of delay. I'll get it eventually when the price is right. I've heard it's pretty much more of the same with updated graphic, and honestly that sounds good to me.
