Sneak and Peek was an interesting game with awesome graphics
-
I remember this great looking game on my friends Atari 5200. We only had the cartridge and from what I recall could never figure out how to play the game. Sure did look nice though.

Very nice! I just finished playing the Shadowman Remaster and snagged the 1000/1000 achievements on that one. It's one of my favorite games of all time, and was blown away by the game on the Dreamcast. The remaster is WAY better. A lot was left out of the game at the time, due to time constraints, and it's all available now. Too cool. Anyways, I was wondering what I was going to tackle next, you reminded me I still have never played ME3!!!

I wound up playing through and beating the 2nd game, still need to get back to this and play the 3rd one, a game I never have played before. (Mainly because EA was shutting down servers for online game sometimes a year after the release...F THAT!) Most people at the time were disappointed with the ending to the point where I think they tacked on an additional ending? Am I remembering that right? Does this new version have that new tacked on ending?

Not much to add other than I loved ROTLA on 2600 back in the day. My friend Mike and I finally solved the game after a weekend of non-stop playing back a few months after it was released. He owned a 5200 at the time (I was kind of jealous, but at the same time we tended to play more 2600 than 5200 games when I went over there) but have no doubt we would have LOVED a 5200 version of that game. I've always been a graphics freak, and I'll bet it would have really stood out on that console.

Quick update on my super awesome A.A.S.S. haul this year!! So much great stuff, including a vintage board game that I had as a child. How did they know!? Too cool!

I got my package yesterday. I'm trying hard to wait until at least Christmas Eve, to open. There was one gift unwrapped and just encased in a cardboard sleeve. I couldn't stand not knowing what it was!! As you can see what it was, was TOO COOL!!

I love seeing what people got from their A.A.S.S!! Doing this really feels like being a kid again doesn't it?
-
I bought it on the PC. If you like the original game, it's pretty much exactly the same. The new skins don't add much other than slightly netter graphics to me. Also the PC version has issues often, server resets that reset you levels. Long lines to even connect to Battlenet. I personally wouldn't pay more than $15 for the game, and wish I had just waited for the inevitable price drop.

Add me to the list!!!

Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
moycon replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Yeah plus I can imagine digging up, smelly, rocky soil in the freaking desert probably isn't an ideal vacation activity! Why bother with that? Many of the more modern reviews begin with " E.T. The worst game ever made, so bad Atari buried millions of them" Why not just accept the reviews of the day? You know, before the silliness. -

Maybe because people think their personal beliefs are the only correct beliefs and everyone else should think like them because then the world would be a better place? I dunno. It's hard for some people to grasp another person might have their own beliefs about ANY given topic and it be completely the opposite of theirs. I personally think anyone's beliefs are the right ones for their little world and they shouldn't get mad at others for not thinking like them. That said. E.T. for the Atari 2600 is in fact one of the greatest games ever made, and I would have ditched the wife and grabbed a shovel. -

Seems to me, people have taken all available vintage reviews and calculated average based on those ratings and reviews and E.T. wound up just that, an average reviewed game for the time. Based on that it was received just fine. It didn't get all glowing reviews for sure, but it certainly didn't get a majority of dismal reviews, much less enough to qualify it as the worst game of all time, all that nonsense came later when people decided to invent the myth. I will agree with you about one thing though, I am super for sure, not unlike the game if a person can grasp the play mechanics. -

Yeah it's sarcasm plain and simple. What I mean is, the myth was always nonsense, and the dig proved that. This is a long thread I know, but I was around when it was started, and in spite of my apparent terrible grasp of the English language in general my view has never changed, just read the thread there is plenty of great information for anybody that takes any time to actually read it. Atari 2600 E.T. was great game for it's time, you just had to be somewhat intelligent to play it and in spite of what you might have heard, there was never a day millions of the carts were buried because the game sucked, or was too confusing so most people returned it and it certainly didn't cause the video game crash. LOL Ok so you are now changing the legend, is that it? I'm not totally convinced that's how urban legends work, but sure, let us know what your version of the E.T. myth is so we can document it for future discussion. -

moycon replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
It's not assessing any discussion, it's assessing the actual dig results. Hoping you provide additional information soon so we can prove once and for all that almost all the E.T. carts bought were returned and had to be buried because the game was so terrible. You and I both know E.T. caused the video game crash, but we need to get others on board mate. -
Atari's Landfill Adventures, I now have the proof it's true.
moycon replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
Nah, it absolutely was not. The carts buried were random stock and most recovered weren't E.T. The sea of millions of E.T.'s is a myth as it stands. But hey let no one discourage you from raising the $$$ to spread out and investigate some more. I personally won't hold my breath, but I do believe in you. -

I still love my Atari 2600 E.T. -

moycon replied to Spud's topic in Atari 2600
I'd say it's at least pretty close. " Atari did not make too many E.T.'s" It's obviously true because they produced more carts after the initial run. " instead were customer returns" This one is iffy. It's very possible some of the carts were returns, they were basically just games taking up space in a warehouse, who's to say some weren't returned product? "but not the insanity that the legend held?" The sea of millions of E.T. carts, a game so bad everyone returned their copy and it killed off the video game industry? Yep, that was pretty insane, or maybe just dumb. -
I always thought Epyx was such an awesome producers of games. I'm not a huge sports fan, but always loved the Olympic games they would release (Summer games, Winter games, etc..) and don't get me started on the Apshi games. I'm surprised they arent still around.
-
Ha!! There is no doubt, the games being made by enthusiasts today are simply amazing!! I can't imagine that some of the recent games, had they been released back in the day would have made millions of dollars!
-
Nice. I always liked Turmoil. Good simple fun.

Ugh what awful news. Nukey will be missed for sure.

I recalling seeing this game years ago and thinking it was amazing looking. The Dreamcast was always a favorite system of mine, and stuff like this is why.
