Yes Ive been to your site often and like it alot. I thought it was great that you dispelled the rumor going around that Aligator People was unplayable. For some reason I had no trouble at all figuring out that game even without instructions. Ive always enjoyed multi screen Atari games and that one fits the bill perfect. Altho like you Im not sure what the hell it is you finally get at the end. Keep up the good work!!

Stan When I started reading the topic I was thinking the same thing...But Sumguy comes into play there to. I went to the flea market and saw some decent 2600 games on the table. I asked the lady how much she wanted expecting the usual $1.00-$2.00. She said $8.00 a piece. She said "sumguys collect these old games...there collectors items" I'd like to get this sumguy alone...Just once.

What with Halloween coming up soon. Figured I start a topic on SCARY atari games. Not just listing em all, but which ones are your favorite and why? For me it's easy. When I was still in my early teens the inside back cover of Fangoria #25 had a listing for 2 new games from Wizard. I was freaked when I saw an Atari game called .... Halloween. Of course I didnt have the $50 they were asking for the game...So I had to wait till I established myself. Years later I bought a copy without intructions for $80. I'd have to say thats my favorite still. There's something SOO cool about flicking on the old Atari and hearing that freaky music.

Well I've never heard of NFG but Im at work and bored so here's the cover: http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Alb...8256A220013A7D7 Hehheh There's a stormtrooper on there too.

Yeah your right M network did suck!! I forgot about how annoying the shape of the cart were. Some of the 3rd party carts had toungue and groove stacking going on. But not M Network. They didnt fit in with the rest of the collection at all!! Now that I think about it... I HATE M NETWORK!!! (Cept for the 3 I mentioned earlier...But I still hated their shape)
-
I really didnt like any of the m network carts too much... Air Raiders/Bump and Jump/Burger Time were the ones I liked the best. Just about every other one to me were boring!! I remember I got Dark Caverns and as a kid to read the box youd think it was the best game in the world... BORING!! The sports ones were OK.

In response to Oils Well/Anteater: The tongue/drill bit sprite would be difficult to pull off on the 2600 hardware. I found this link on the Atari Age site!! http://www.atariage.com/screenshot_page.ht...wareLabelID=856 Maybe thats why the game was never released?

How could they even think to advertise a game that wasnt off the drawing board? Id think they would at least want the knowledge that the game was coming along before they advertise. It would be cool to find ANY of the announced PB games...But I'd love for someone to find a proto of Lord of the Rings. Maybe with the movies coming out someone will come forward with one? I can remember as a kid I was soooo excited about that game...I think they bragged it had like 2000+ screens. I also thought I read that when people called PB about the game, they were told that they were sold out of the game at the moment!!

I'd have to go with a remake of E.T. just to redeem themselves on that one. Also altho Atari didn't put it out. Just to piss off the parents, How bout a remake of Wizards Texes Chainsaw Massacre

quote: About 4 years ago (has it really been that long?) some very promising RPG engine prototypes were written as demos Yep I know exactly what you're talking about Chris. I dont know how long ago they were done...Ive been searching for the demos on the net...But so far came up empty...I'm pretty sure I have the .bin files at home if anyone want to take a peek. It seemed to me the "game" itself was unplayable...or didnt have instructions... It reminded me of Ultima a little...With a large area you could walk around in... with water and forests etc... Is that what you're talking about? Then creatures would attack you it seems. I cant hardly remember now. Im pretty sure the demo's (plural) are in my Stella files at home.

I'd bid on it...But he's asking too much for shipping! Seriously, I dont get it tho. He listed the 999,999.99 first and he put not to bid on it...But its not like he went back and added it to the item description or it would say that in the description itself. Says something like " Seller added the following:" and gives the date and time if you go back and do that. Just doesnt make sense. He's either an idiot or has something up his sleeve.
-
I was just joking...But I actually did that once myself. Went to bid $10 and bid $1000!! As far as paying $600+ for an Atari game??? I would have to think that...I would pay that if it were my lifes goal to have every Atari game... Of course if that WERE my lifes goal I might seek consoling. I like collecting the games that I enjoyed playing when I was growing up...Or playing games that I remember reading about in Electronic Games that really got me excited but I never got the chance to play then. Perhaps these 2 people had the game in their collection when they were younger and just want to relive a part of their childhood. But like was mentioned earlier they might just not think anything about spending $600+...To them, it might be like $6.00.

Paddles would work. You only would have to move left and right. To go down you'd fall thru a "hole" and you wouldn't go up. Im just guessing ...I never played the game their talking about. Would your character move too fast with paddles?
-
What do you mean start up screen? I thought that Pitfall 2 just went straight to the actual game screen. If you pushed the joystick button or moved the joystick....The game would start...If you didnt...It went into a demo mode.
-
Oh I forgot about Oils Well or there was another game released at the same time with just different graphics called Anteater... Yeah I don't think that type of game was ever done on the 2600. I don't see why it couldnt.
-
Has anyone? And how would you go about doing it? I have the commodore 64 emulator that emulates the disc drive or the cassette drive. Is there a supercharger emulator that works the same way? I remember as a kid my friend had a supercharger. But only had like 2 games for it...One was Communist Mutants from Outer Space the other was something like Starmaster. I'd love to try out the others...Especially DragonStomper!!

Here one of the numerous 2600 cart list thats on the web. http://www.atari2600.com/museum/2600/2600List.html As far as sorting out the clones. I'll leave that to someone else.

Shamus was a decent computer game that would seem a natural for the 2600. I always liked that game because you had a goal you could meet insted of just playing till you died. As far as arcade traslation. I would've liked to have seen Tron the Arcade game translated.
-
$625!!!!! Oh no!! I thought I had bid $6.25
-
One more thing. I always disliked the early games that didnt have a goal to shoot for other than the high score. Why not make it where you eventually get to the bottom and get something, before you move onto the next screen (different color platforms..faster)Perhaps the goals could be to collect the swordquest prizes?? A crown. A chalice etc...

Yes I read all about the court cases with 3rd party developers in Phoenix: The Fall & Rise of Videogames. But I guess thats my question... They hated other groups making software for their platform...So why the turn-around? Why did they start doing it? Was it to get back at them? Or was it just for the $$$?
-
Hey, I know we talked about the games Atari made for the other systems... Intellivision, Commodore 64. But does anyone know why? I mean Atari seemed to have a big problem with other people making games for the 2600, they even took Activision to court. Was it out of spite? Like when M-Network made games for the 2600, Atari said "fine 2 can play that game" or was it more an issue involving $$$? Does anyone know?

2600- Pitfall 2 5200- Gremlins 7800- BallBlazer

Nope definately not the Atari Space Age joystick. See the description above. The Atari Space Age has a trigger you pull from the front like a gun. This one has it on the top behind the joystick you push with your thumb. I looked it up on the net and couldnt find any info on it....Its made by Mastertronic and doesnt have Atari logo anywhere on it. I'm wondering if maybe someone made it for the commodore 64?? Really I have no clue. I can post a pic of it possibly.
