"Apparently Atari follows the FILO philosophy and has decided to ship in reverse order. "

I love how people keep saying things like this- as if it is Atari themselves handling the logistics...of a global product launch.

You keep assuming on Atari's behalf without any proof to back that up. Atari hasn't revealed any insight on to how this launch was executed.

Either Atari has no control how their product goes out, which is bad, or they do have control and botched the launch, also bad.

Neither is a good look here.

Atari has taught us not to expect anything first if we're first in line.

I'm dealing with the same frustration. Ordered on Aug 22nd and don't have it.  My buddy ordered from Amazon 2 weeks ago and got it a few days ago. I was chatting with someone on YouTube last night who ordered directly from Atari 2 weeks ago and has already gotten it.  I'm trying not to be a hot head over this, but if there wasn't that 30 day cancelation clause at the beginning of the order, I would definitely consider just getting my money back and get on with life.

FYI, I was able to cancel my order. I just received confirmation from Atari Support this morning and my Shop app shows "cancelled" as well. Maybe they're going by their own FAQ, so if it hasn't hit the delivery warehouse you can still cancel.

You're not getting it for a couple of weeks. They already sold out of their consoles and you're getting the second batch to make it out of manufacturing. I would suggest just relaxing - I know how frustrating this might be but you are still going to get it.

Next time, don't order from their website, teach them a lesson, Order from amazon. When you get it, post your serial number so we can see how high it is. Out of interest.

Obviously demand was higher than they expected - none of the paddles or games are available to order right now it's in prime christmas shopping season and this is a great gift. So I'm sure they're not happy about it either. They are probably losing out on quite a few sales right now

    There is no next time.

Atari should have delivered this time. Plain and simple.

They have our money, we have nothing. If they missed the November date, they can surely miss a December date. And what excuse then? More demand then expected, bad weather, problems with the second batch, we want to update the firmware before shipping, etc.

For those of us with nothing to show for our money and early support, we can be frustrated and perturbed.

I pre-ordered from Atari directly on the day they released it for pre-order. I received the shipping notice early last week. Long story short, it is out of delivery today. My order number was lower than 8000.

My guess here is that since I ONLY ordered the 2600+ and nothing else, is why it was ready to be able to be shipped out while it seems most other that might have ordered additional stuff like the paddles or other games, seem to be the ones that have to wait.

I'm assuming that Atari is just wanting to combine the orders to save on the shipping and because it can be a right logistics nightmare to split up orders with different shipping on the items. Amazon gives you the offer on waiting for single shipping or separate but I don't recall that as an option when I ordered from Atari.

Earlier this year, I ordered the Atari Camp trucker hat and a copy of Mr. Run and Jump. The hat came shortly after I ordered it and Mr. Run and Jump came in yesterday. Everything about the order was communicated via the Shop app with no issues. Unfortunately, I don't have specific details or if there's an option to do separate shipments through Shop like Amazon has.

Ultimately the buck stops with Atari, they contracted the shippers, gave the instuctions and so on.   I'm not saying they hold no responsibility, I just don't think they were purposely being deceptive when they told us their release plan.

I don't disagree with you, and company doesn't have to tell us the "inside baseball" side of things. It just feels like Atari really isn't taking this on like they should. Just coming out and saying some get theirs and some have to wait, feels off.

And hey, before I come off as too heated, I don't want you or anyone to feel like my annoyance is directed at them.

I would never want an organization to limit their ability to be successful in order to make a few people happy. That hurts the company, which ultimately hurts the fans. But I think what would have been ideal is to designate that "the first 1000 ordered will be shipped in November!" or something to that effect. I think we can all agree they meant well, something just got screwed up... which was probably outside of their control.

I don't feel like waiting, so I'm going to buy one of those other Atari systems that just came out... the Gamestation Pro.

Ok, just did it... I am impulsive and impatient. THAT'LL SHOW YOU ATARI!!! YOU SCREW UP MY PRE-ORDER SO I'M GOING TO BUY ANOTHER ATARI PRODUCT TO SATISFY MY IMPULSIVITY!!! TAKE THAT!!!

Limits don't necessarily have to be a bad thing. It worked for the NES Classic and the McRib.

They seemed to really believe the preorders would get shipped first, and everyone else would get their unit in December,  they reiterated that several times.   They knew initial stock was limited and was supposed to go to the people who ordered first.   Yet some people who ordered recently got theirs already and some preorders are waiting.    To me, it sounds like someone downstream didn't get the memo or ignored it.

I'm suspect they were as surprised as us when it  happened the way it did, which is why there was no advance communication.   There's no good reason to purposely set false expectations as it will only blow up in your face.

Telling us something multiple times doesn't mean that is how it played out.

The buck starts and ends with Atari. Putting the blame on someone doing the shipping going off the reservation makes no sense in a world where shipments are controlled and calculated well in advanced of being delivered, or you're doing it wrong. Atari is acting like they're running a mom & pop out of their garage with hand written receipts by being "surprised" at how shipping is going.

If they had the wherewithal to check something like cartridge compatibility, surely they'd have their ducks in a row when it comes to who gets what.

As stated above, you can walk over to Amazon and buy and have one shipped in a matter of days and yet no units are available elsewhere?

Atari set the false expectations, not those of us who were in on day one.

Yeah that's critical.   If I want something fast I'll order from Amazon.  When speed doesn't matter, I prefer to support a much less monopolistic company with expectations of slower delivery and more hassle with returns.  A small company like Atari doesn't have anything like the delivery infrastructure of Amazon and is completely at the mercy of 3rd party providers.

Yeah,  in all my working life, I've never managed to work for a company where everyone twirls their mustaches and chuckles about how they can screw the customer today.   The last thing we'd ever want is customers to have a bad experience.   It makes us feel bad.  But there are so many ways things can go wrong.    Usually everyone is focused on the thing they think will go wrong, to prevent it from failing again..   And then something completely unexpected that nobody was focused on goes wrong.  Then we have post-mortem meetings on why we didn't catch that, and vow to make sure we catch that next time.   And next time everyone is focuses on that thing...  and something different breaks.   The cycle repeats.   Organizations are reactive, not proactive.   No matter how much they proclaim they need to be proactive, it's easier said than done.

There's a way to properly handle delays with deliverables and then there's what was done.

    • They should have limited the number they could sell to what they could meet knowing they don't have the ability to meet the logistical challenges. (It seems they should have partnered and made it an Amazon exclusive in hindsight)
    • They could have informed people they were going to be delayed, before mass emailing everyone that everything is shipped on the 17th. (not optimal, but manageable)
    • Instead, they knew how much they were going to fall short on but still gave a shipping date and then informed us a delay after the fact, souring the experience.

If you temper my expectations, I can forgive that. I would have enjoyed being able to play the console over Thanksgiving, as this is the last time this year I get a decent break, but I could have said, no problem.

They did the opposite and then said "oops, our bad". My copy of Mr. Run and Jump showed up and it's cool to enjoy on my old machines, but the impact is lessened by the surrounding situation.

I'm not going to say the 2600+ is a revolution, but in day where the big 3 console makers are only separated by a handful of exclusive titles, Atari could find a nice niche as an alternative to the modern hum drum. This is especially true when you factor in the genius of the homebrew developers. I don't even mind experiencing the growing pains as the console is updated to become a better experience for later adopters or the next iteration.

But here we are. At least those who have received their units seemed to be pleased with them.

It was our intent that all the early orders would be fulfilled first ... we now know some decisions were made at the fulfillment warehouse that impacted shipping order, and it seems some customers who ordered as early as 8-22 were not at the front of the line as expected. There is a chance you may get a notice that your package shipped in the next 24 hours or so, but if not, it is going to be in two weeks.

I'm not confident a ship notice will come in the next 24 hours (perhaps, but highly doubtful).

Is two weeks, an actual two weeks? Or approximately, so more like three weeks.

If we continue to wager on the high (slow) side of things, my FedEx Ground Shipping says 2 to 7 so assume another week.

My expectation is now closer to a month out from when it should have been shipped. Heck, my gut tells me next year is more possible now given the lack of foresight into the whole situation.

Meanwhile, Atari had the ability to create deluxe packaging and get them shipped out to "influencers", even to those abroad and also to make sure units got in the hands of those who would give them more exposure. It seems like the priority was creating buzz and then eventually shipping the product.

I don't enjoy whining, and I know I am, it's just overall disappointing, that something as simple as shipping seems to be a monumental task.

  10. "Hi ...,

We’re excited to announce that the Atari 2600+ collection will begin shipping this Friday! If you've moved or would like us to send your order to a new address, please fill out this form by Wednesday, November 15th.

If you haven't moved, you can sit back and relax while we prepare to deliver your order.

As always, we appreciate your patience. Thanks for being part of our incredible Atari community!

    - Atari Team"

The Atari Team shouldn't have said "begin shipping this Friday" if they weren't. Tell me you're going to be late before you can't get it to me on time and I can cut you some slack.

Tell me it's coming then say, oops we miscalculated, even though we had several months to manage the situation, and it leaves a sour taste. Especially if it's weeks out, with no real date provided and on top of that a slow shipping service to add more time to it.

Does it ruin my life, no. But I expect better or at least the bare minimum.

  11. My biggest take away so far, is don't order day one and wait for Amazon.

I just received an email saying "Thank you for purchasing an Atari 2600+. We are eager to get your order to you and will do so as soon as possible. Our fulfillment partner is shipping orders in waves as product arrives at their distribution center. Your order is planned to ship in the first week of December."

Maybe next time have your product ready to ship on the day you say it will.

  12. I use my speaker hat nearly every day when I go for walks around my neighborhood. I got it with the VCS bundle at a really good price earlier in the year and I've been quite pleased with it. I've worn earbuds and headphones for too many years so it's nice to not have anything covering my ears and I can actually be aware of my surroundings outside. Would have I bought one without the bundle, no. But I see it as nice bonus that just so happens to be Atari branded.

Those are all phenomenal games and there's still a ton more to enjoy on that system.

I think a huge part of why I got into a console depended on its arcade ports or arcade style games. Atari, Colecovision, and especially The Genesis (Mega Drive) all satisfied that aspect of gaming.

I should also mention that the Sega 3D Classics on the 3DS (or any other port M2 touches) are one of the finest ways to play some of the best classic arcade/Genesis games, and are a great merging of modern tech with old games.

  14. I love the Atari stand alones, still having my Video Pinball hooked up, but I can't get into all the other systems of that era.

The 7800, Colecovision, and Famicom with disk system keep me happy on the early gaming front. I've had a Sega Master System, Odyssey 2, and Intellivision (w/The Intellivoice, ECS, and Keyboard) and just never got the systems.

I still have my C64 and Atari 800XL, but I dropped my TI99. I even had the MBX add on for the TI, but couldn't justify keeping it with only and handful of games and maybe 1 or 2 of those being good.

Someone else mentioned loving the Genesis over the SNES and i'm in that boat as well. Except for Super Metroid, the SNES' library just never hooked me and that sound chip really bugged me. The Genesis may have been noisy, but that Yamaha FM sound just sounds so cool.

The N64 was just too ugly graphically for me to enjoy getting into it. I just parted with my PS1 and Saturn so I'm pretty much done with collecting for that time.

Of the modern stuff, I have a PS3, PSP, Wii, Wii U, and 3DS. I have them mostly since I can build up their Digital only and Virtual Consoles without packing my shelves with more stuff.

  15. I like mine. There's a vast Neo Geo library including arcade games from before the MVS/AES era. There's some really good collections including Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection. You have access to loads of past PS1 games US and Japan. It's also is a really good Blu-Ray and Streaming machine. It's an all around machine and why I haven't/won't part with mine.

  16. If you'd like me to bring some games, just let me know in advance (you can send me a PM) and I'll be sure to have them for you. At this show I just setup a bunch of game systems for people to play--I don't actually have homebrews for sale. I set everything up, then spend most of the weekend playing arcade games and pinball machines, checking on the displays periodically to make sure everything's humming smoothly. :D..Al

Definitely! I'll pm you with a list and go from there.
