Intellivision Amico’s trademark changed to ‘abandoned’
rayik replied to rietveld's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
I agree 100%. Once the games come out on other systems, there is no reason to buy an Amico. Especially since they have demonstrated the Amico console games being played using a cell phone as the controller. Without exclusive games, absolutely no need for the Amico console. Also, does anyone believe IE's sales pitch that people will buy an Amico to play an "exclusive" port which adds new costumes or a couple of levels when they can already play the "non-exclusive" original on a device they already own. Really amazing that folks took that seriously. -

Ok. Good to know. Phone without touch screen = game cannot be played Phone with touch screen = game can be played on phone. According to Google Market Research, in May 2022 there are 6.8 billion smart phones in use. If we assume all smart phone have touch screens that means there is a market of 6.8 billion people for a Back Street Party port. Just 1% market penetration will result in 6.8 million sales. That's $68,000,000 in revenue at a very reasonable game cost of $10 USD*. And that is only the start! Can't wait to we see what is next!! *And if someone says $10 is too much, just remember it's less than visit to Starbucks for mom and her kid (Coffee and hot chocolate) -

Are you sure about that? Engineers have said they passed preliminary FCC testing. If that engineer's statement is true, and if preliminary FCC testing is a real thing, then FCC certification is just a formality that can be obtained at any time. -

Ha! Ha! Since we have been repeatedly told that the Amico’s controller is required to fully experience their exclusive games, that means they are porting sub-optimal versions to other systems. (Actually IE Is not porting anything. Licensees are doing the actual work) Also great excuse for not producing consoles. A 2nd boot bug. Surely at some point they must have rebooted their test consoles. Or maybe the never had functioning units at their public demonstrations? IE still treating the few people following this as suckers who will believe anything they are told. -

On Restera they are saying TT removed any mention of Intellivision from his Instagram bio. https://www.resetera.com/threads/amico-fun-conversations-ot-what-the-heck’s-an-intellivision-amico-console’s-leaky-dev-portal-offers-hints.449851/post-91937650 https://www.resetera.com/threads/amico-fun-conversations-ot-what-the-heck’s-an-intellivision-amico-console’s-leaky-dev-portal-offers-hints.449851/post-91939864 -

There is no need for a wait and see attitude. IE's CEO at the time said the Amico has left pre-production and is NOW IN PRODUCTION. It's just about to ship as a former IE engineer has stated on the internet that the Amico has passed 3rd party FCC testing. It's just a matter of some FCC paperwork and here they come. -

We have been told production started 9 months ago. I don't know why anyone would want to wait and see what happens or that it will not come out. We've been TOLD this, why would anyone doubt it. -

The point MrBeefy was making was that Ark was providing the "short term financing" (a/k/a line of credit). When IE could not show guarenteed sales Ark's financing disappeared and they did not have the funds to make 20k - 30k units Unless of course MrBeefy was saying something different. -

Did IE ever state what their advertising at / with the conference would consist of? Did IE state what individual was going to speak at the conference? (Not just the title of a non-identified individual) Reason I'm asking, is I don't recall IE stating what exactly this marketing at MOM 2.0 Conference would consist of. Google search only returns an IE press release saying they were going to be a sponsor and were creating an Amico console. -

What did the Mom 2.0 sponsorship consist of? I’m not asking what is Mom 2.0 or the Mom 2.0 conference / summit. I’m asking: 1) What did IE sponsorship consist of? 2) What did IE plan to do for the conference? 3) What did IE actually do in regards to the conference? Reason I ask is Google search only returns a Press Release about IE being a sponsor. -

TT talk of marketing money was BS like everything else that was said. What made it obvious was TT saying they wouldn’t start marketing until they were selling the Amico. That makes no sense. You want product awareness and publicity before it goes on sale, not after. if they had money they would have been marketing. p -

Everything in that post is relying on what was "said" being 100% true. What is not in the post is analysis of whether what is "said" is reliable or comports with what has been publicly shown. The back and forth is simply this is what was "said." This is an analysis of what was "said." But this is what was "said" But this is an analysis of what was "said" Round and round. if it is demonstrated that what was "said" is not true, response is then deflection by bringing up something unrelated. Rinse and repeat regardless of the Amico discussion topic. Not an effective method of demonstrating that what was "said" was reliable or true. -

If it's on the internet, it has to be true. Don't let little things like weighing credibility be a consideration. On the topic of FCC certification, anyone else having tacos tonight? -

Intellivision Amico’s trademark changed to ‘abandoned’

Corrected making the assumptions more obvious: Right, let's assume there is no reason for the system to read the url. Let's assume the system already knows where the server is. (This assumption is made even though the firmware is not done and IE has never demonstrated how or even that downloading works.) Let's assume the url is useful to anyone else that happens to read it, with their cell phone. Let's assume For example, as they are directed to the company website to find out more. Let's assume this is how it all will work even though IE has not shown the Amico downloading or authenticating using RFID card. -

In the quote above, everything above after the bold type is an assumption. Here are some more conclusions based on the exact same assumptions: Just because they haven't shown it doesn't mean purchased games are not protected by default. Since they are protected by default, if parents decide to leave it offline then kids will not be able to play their games until it is online again. The system doesn't necessarily have to be programmed to use that url. However, the url and serial number on the RFID card is necessary to download the game. The url is used to direct people to their server so they can download the game. The serial number verifies that it is a valid purchase. If the backend server is unavailable, the game will not be able to be downloaded and thus is unplayable. Both are equally valid. Both are just totally made up. One is more likely than the other depending on whether you truly, truly believe. What IE has accomplished or not accomplished is more accurate than any assumptions. -

But they could pay an independent testing lab to do the tests; pass the FCC tests at the lab, get the paperwork saying they passed, and hold off until launch time to file with the FCC for official FCC clearance. About as logical as anything speculated so far. -
Can't see them wanting to do that. Right now they are selling 7800 game roms in their store. A cart ready means they loss those sales. Even if it's low volume thst is money coming in to Atari at no cost Versus cost of designing, making and selling a cart reader so that people can stop buying roms in their store. As much as VCS cart owners would like this, can't see it benefiting Atari.
