It is a bit ironic when a bank offers a savings account with a whopping 0.55% interest rate on your money, stating it is one of the highest rates for a traditional savings account covered by federal deposit laws.

We have gotten this BS in the USA for years now. With our federal "prime" rate almost at 3.25%, the point of a savings account has been lost. With years of this now (really since 2008), I'm afraid that it has likely punished less-complex investors quite hard. All it took was the highest inflation rates in decades to get them to raise it by 0.5%. At least that is what everyone expects to happen later this month, but it will still be about half what it was in '07.
