BennVenn LCD (IPS) Mod Kits for Atari Lynx - now sold on K-Retro.com
Igor replied to Igor's topic in Atari Lynx
The revision numbers are the same on the PCBs so there's no way to tell physically. It's not a new chip, it's just a slightly different FPGA and memory controller. The garbage vs checkerboard pattern is due to how the memory controller handles initialisation. -
BennVenn LCD (IPS) Mod Kits for Atari Lynx - now sold on K-Retro.com

The coloured garbage on the screen is normal at boot up, it's just showing the contents of the memory at that instant and it takes a moment for it to be cleared. The black and white checkerboard pattern is normal too - this is the behaviour from a slightly different chip that's onboard the latest batch of kits. -

It's amazing what the screen kit does. I don't even feel the need to pick up my New DS any more. -
Yeah we ship to UK. We don't pre-pay VAT so you'd have to check on that yourself.

The new batch of IPS kits is on the way, pre-orders are open as usual (https://k-retro.com/12-lcd-mod-kits). Expecting to ship in January. -
Here's the link to the Lynx 2 version - https://k-retro.com/lcd-mod-kits/32-65--pre-order-bennvenn-ips-lcd-mod-kit-lynx-2.html#/12-lcd_kit_extras-add_protection_zener_diode/16-lynx_model-not_c104129_001_most_lynxes and the Lynx 1 - https://k-retro.com/lcd-mod-kits/31-61--pre-order-bennvenn-ips-lcd-mod-kit-lynx-1.html#/12-lcd_kit_extras-add_protection_zener_diode The Lynx 2 version doesn't require any soldering, unless you want to add scanlines - that needs just a single wire soldered in. The Lynx 1 version does require soldering but we have install guides for the kits.

Hi All, We've got a batch or rev1 ElCheapoSD flash carts for Atari Lynx and we're putting on a Boxing Day sale for them. You can now get one of these for just $30! Get them here -> https://k-retro.com/elcheaposd-and-accessories/134-elcheaposd-atari-lynx-rev1.html The rev1 carts are fully compatible with the latest firmware and menu launcher. The only catch is they come in white shells only. However, each one has a unique rev1 colourful sticker.

If you install the 0.08 firmware on the ECSD, it supports running O and LYX files now. Get my updated menu from here - https://atarigamer.itch.io/elcheaposd-menu The ECSD firmware is included in the downloads section, make sure you read instructions for that thoroughly or you will brick your ECSD. If you're stuck or in doubt you can reach out on Discord.

I've noticed a bug in my game too where if you watch the intro all the way (instead of skipping it), once the menu screen is shown it will have a vertical line either on the left or right side of the screen and it's filled with garbage pixels.
-
Thanks @Ninjabba, glad you like it, I'll try and fix that bug, didn't encounter it myself in my testing. The damage is generated randomly so after (a long) time you can get the whole screen covered. I think the damage looks the best on the second TV, the middle choice, because of how scaling distorts pixels to be non-square. About the high score - I didn't really intend that game to be about getting a high score but just having fun! Anyone else tried it out yet?

Edits are always welcome before the final cart version is released, just stay within the size limits. @LordKraken I am going to see about making my own loader this time around but need to pick your brains!

I present to you another mini-game. Angry Motes. This one was my submission for the LynXjam 2022 game jam that's just wrapping up now. In this game you control the player who is playing a game on the TV. You control what the person does in the room and that reflects what the game on the TV does in return. The goal of the game is to score 99 points against the computer without destroying your TV completely. Or just smash that TV to bits, it's your choice! Computer 'AI' is very dumb, it just moves the computer paddle left/right. You have to try and get the ball past the computer's paddle. Timing is important. You can launch the ball or by holding down the launch button, or you can build up extra force when you swing to make the ball fly faster. The greater the force, the greater is the chance of having the mote fly out of your hands. If the mote hits the TV, it will damage it, but that's only visual, you can continue playing the game by feel. Have fun playing! The download is available on the game page over at itch.io - https://atarigamer.itch.io/angry-motes Some more screenshots...

Directional controller button problem after upgrade...
Igor replied to DarkLord's topic in Atari Lynx
We're going to offer a SNES controller adapter for the Lynx soon, so keep an eye out 👁 -
Ah makes sense, I was wondering how the halloween graphics are supposed to line up with this year's theme...very interested to see what you both come up with! I still don't have a cut scene or intro (not sure if I'll have time for this), or music/sounds - but there's the weekend!
-
Interesting! Didn't think you'd make it in time this year given your boat cruise, glad to see an entry from you!
-
Haha yep, I used an AI art generator for that background, didn't have Atari in the keywords but it somehow became part of it. I just decided to roll with it.

Very welcome! I forget, did you buy a USB cable with the on/off switch too? -
True, but that's super slow isn't it?

Taxi Movie Demo did it - https://atarigamer.com/lynx/game/LynxTaxiMovieDemo/442159240 Not sure if the website of the dev has the source or not, you could try to reach out to him, though he is in Japan so might need to use Google Translate. As for carts - there is no 128K cart, the current de facto home-brew carts are all 512K+128B EEPROM, there is no point getting smaller ones. Both Karri and myself carry stock of cart PCBs and I have fully assembled "blank" carts in our K-Retro store if you're interested. We have two different cart programmers too, you just need to supply your own Lynx cart connector.
