BennVenn LCD (IPS) Mod Kits for Atari Lynx - now sold on K-Retro.com
Igor replied to Igor's topic in Atari Lynx
You have to open it up and have a look, but then you have to open it to install the kit anyway so you may as well. Just don't fully re-assemble e.g. leave the rubber feet in a safe place until you fit the LCD. -
Hey All, with the Rev6b kits having completely run out and many of you asking when more LCD kits will be back in stock, we managed to secure a small batch of older revisions of these kits. The batch is only 10 kits and these all contain a Japanese LCD panel. They are $60/kit now and if you buy 2 or more and use the code LCDV4SALE during check out, you get an extra 8% off. That's just over $55/kit! What's the catch? These kits require soldering and brightness control is via the backlight button, but they still look just as good as the rest. It's a cheap way to upgrade your Lynx. We won't be restocking these once they run out. Here's the link to our store - https://atarigamer.com/shop/LCDModKitsandParts/5701626568376320

Rev4 is still there and there's a sale for it too. We have 10 left as of writing this. -
I like to think of the BennVenn ElCheapoSD as the 'budget SD flash cart' and the RetroHQ Game Drive as the 'premium option', GD has more features and supports more EEPROM types by emulating them, ElCheapoSD has a physical EEPROM chip on it. In terms of hard resetting a Lynx, it's doable in software with a few lines of code, it's not a hard reset but close enough as it forces the Lynx to fully re-initialise. We've also worked with both BennVenn and @SainT from RetroHQ to bring the official boxes and cart stickers out for each of the flash carts... These are available from our shop (atarigamer.com/shop)

The ROM works, just the logo so far, I guess that's the intent?
-
Here's a comparison table - https://atarigamer.com/pages/sd-flash-carts-for-atari-lynx In the end it comes down to price really. The ElCheapoSD is named that way to reflect it ?

Yes of course! Open it! A game is not enjoyed until you play it ✈️

Another update! The game code is complete, just doing some final checks and it's ready to be shipped to the first lot of people who placed pre-orders. I've also added the boxed version of the game to the shop without the PCB Bunny kit since there are delays getting those organised. Available on our store here - https://atarigamer.com/shop/AtariLynxHomebrewGames/5739799835049984 And a couple of screenshots of the updated RGB mode, as well as high score saves to cart.

The magic number is 71 official games, not 76 - https://atarigamer.com/articles/list-of-all-71-officially-released-games-for-the-atari-lynx Congrats though! We can give you a head start with home-brews available in our store ? https://atarigamer.com/shop/AtariLynxHomebrewGames/5739799835049984

I assume you're using the one that I wrote, not the original menu? The version on itch.io is the latest, it hasn't had an update in about a year ? It would be the presence of other files on the card and also the order that those files were copied to the card, bit tricky to debug!
-
I just tried renaming a ROM like that and it didn't cause a crash for me. At least there's a workaround, I'll document that on my site. Thanks for the info! P.S. ElCheapoSD troubleshooting guide is here - https://atarigamer.com/pages/elcheaposd-troubleshooting-guide
-
The issue you described is when the firmware can't launch the selected ROM for some reason and falls back into the menu without a clean reset, that causes it to just hang. Can you tell me what the original file name was so I can see if I can reproduce the issue and fix the menu loader please?

BennVenn LCD (IPS) Mod Kits for Atari Lynx - now sold on K-Retro.com
Igor replied to Igor's topic in Atari Lynx
Rev4 is still a good kit and at $60 it's a great value if you are up for some soldering. -
Don't think @Fadest has any plans to stock these but I will be sending some things to France, maybe we can figure something out. I've also ordered additional PCBs to be sent express (still 2 weeks) so hoping that the second batch will not be too much after Easter.

We have a very limited amount of Rev6b boards that have turned up. These are fully working but we only have 3 left, so get them quick if that's the revision you want. We also have a sale on the rev4 boards ($15 USD off) - these lack the brightness wheel control (brightness level controlled via the backlight button) but apart from that are just as good as the newer revisions. -
A bit of an update to the pre-game menu. Even though the original game was mean to be a Game&Watch style, it makes a lot more sense to have a menu that is easier to navigate on a console like the Lynx.

Thanks! Shipping to EU is $15-20 USD (13-18 EUR), depending on what else you have in your order ?

Anyone looking for details of how to replace the MOSFET and zener here's a guide I put together - https://atarigamer.com/pages/replacing-the-mosfet-and-zener-diodes-in-an-atari-lynx

Here's some behind the scenes look at the box making operation ? These are printed on 'silk' (semi-gloss) cardboard and cut to size, I then fold them while Mrs Atari Gamer does the glueing. Pretty happy with the end results! We've also put together the first batch of the Bunny kits for our Eggsavier game. This is a learn-to-solder kit with lots of easy components to give you practice. I'll write up a guide for it shortly too. Looks like the second batch will be delayed due to lock downs in China, so I'll add the version of the game without the Bunny kit to our store for anyone who wants to get it still.

I've added the box only option for LynXmas in the store since I had a number of requests for it already, enjoy!

After months of work we're happy to announced that we finally have boxed game releases available! These are for our previously released LynXmas 2020 cart and the updated Eggsavier's Cackleberry Rescue game. Both of these are available in the standard sized Atari Lynx game box size. The box is made out of clear PET plastic, and has a colourful insert. The game cart is held securely in the box in a cartridge display stand that can also be used outside of the box. For Eggsavier's we have a special "learn to solder" bunny PCB available that will get you more comfortable with electronic components, soldering, and (hopefully) modding your Lynx. Assembly and install guide will be released soon. Both of these are available for purchase from our store here - Atari Lynx Homebrew Games. If you already have the LynXmas cartridge and want to purchase just the box, please get in contact with us. We also have a standard sized Lynx box for the BennVenn ElCheapoSD cartridge. These are available from out shop here - SD Flash Cart and Accessories.

Apologies for the late reply. We've sold out of all Rev6b for Lynx 2, there are some Rev6b left for Lynx 1 though. We also have Rev4 kits at a discounted price. The differences between revisions are listed here - https://atarigamer.com/pages/lcd-replacement-mod-kits-for-atari-lynx#bvrevisions -
Hello! We've just got stock of 0.3mm thick PET clear plastic protectors for the standard sized Lynx boxes. They're available in our store for $1.50/each (USD) - https://atarigamer.com/shop/DisplayStandsandGameStorage/5705193438052352 We also have single, double and triple tier cartridge display stands as pictured below. If there's enough demand we can look at stocking the "big box" protectors too.
