FYI as of the January 27, 2008 blog entry, OPCODE is back:

If this was posted elsewhere, I apologize.

Wow!....I think I'll be popping in then! Excellent bud! Thanks.
Hey do you know what was stopping video ram expasion on the expander connector? It's been
so long I forgot.
Sorry but no, I'm more the die hard Astrocade collector than the tech head on it. But the guys on the Yahoo group really know their stuff, and I'm sure could answer it (riffraff is a member there as well).
As far as cart shells go, I don't think finding them would be as hard as you think. I know a guy (doesn't everyone?) who could probably help out in that department, who regularly sells carts on eBay six at a time (new/sealed). I tried buying out all his stock a few years back but he just keeps coming up with more (has a shed somewhere piled high with them if I remember correctly).
While I'm not a big fan of saccing perfectly good carts like this, it's for the greater good if it means a new Astrocade game. Besides, the game boards don't have to be sacrificed, unless they are needed for as well.

Hey nice looking screenshots on gorf, and yeah it's nice to meet another astrocade coder. Let me know if you ever want to work together on any future bally games =)
I still need to make labels and possibly a manual for Bally War and it will be ready.
Finding cart shells has to be close to impossible...how will you deal with that?
Also, what kind of followng do we have left in the astrocade world? Is Bally
Alley even still around?
Yup....still there...in case anyone is interested....
...here is a link.http://ballyalley.classicgaming.gamespy.co.../misc_docs.html
You might find this link a little better:
As far as what type of following is left in the Astrocade world, many of us are also on the yahoo group:
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ballyalley/
So let's just say, if you build it, we will come.

I was also thinking of printing up posters of the OpCode game art completed thus far, if enough people are interested I maybe able to do a limited run of these.
Posters, definitely a cool idea. I'd go with one for each of the releases so far. I'm sure you'd get some business on these, just based on how many of us are already collectors on the carts alone.

Put me on your list for a copy of Road Fighter. Keep us in the loop also on the Magical Tree recall.
Always found you to be nothing but cordial in your emails (when you sent them) so no worries here. Sickness sucks, but then again so does getting old, and both of them tend to go hand in hand.
Hope things start looking up for you, MA is a cool place to be and Boston has plenty of sites to see so get out and take advantage of them when you can.
Fresh air does wonders.

CPUWIZ-
Just curious as to how your cart differs from Ward's? I have one that originally belonged to a member of ballyally and was just curious as to what's on it.
Sorry I wasn't active on this board two years ago when you made them as it would have been nice to have picked one up.

The cart works like a charm with the software link.
It's got to be about the coolest thing to be able to run so many protos and homebrew games on an actual Coleco!
Fantastic job Steve! Thanks!

Steve-
Just got the cart today:
When I insert the CD and the installer starts to run I get the following error message:
"Could not initialize installation. File size expected=1282854, size returned=116119.
Same thing if I try to run it from a run prompt.
Any ideas?

Eduardo-
I know it's been a while since you updated us on this project; just wondering if it's still in "production" or if it's been abandoned?
I see from your site that you're now working on a hardware project for the CV.
Does this mean no new software projects are on the horizon?
I hope this version of DK actually gets completed.

lol i have no idea. i just spent the past year restoring it. ive spent hours on end polishing it by hand, its flawless.
Just curious as to what you use to polish the system? I have a spare 5200 I'd like to try and restore that has some minor scratches on the dust cover, console top, etc.
Any tips would be appreciated.

Where's Claude Peller from the old Wendy's commercials when you need her? She would've been great for a commercial ad for this game: "Where's the beef? In your 5200...new from AtariAge!"
Um...dead dude, dead...

(...and it's Clara Peller...just an FYI...)

Steve-
I don't currently have a multimeter, but was this to check if the board is powering up or the amount of voltage being put out?
The reason I ask is that if powering up is what this looks for I can tell you that the red LED does come on and there is no "static" displayed on the screen. It's defiantly a static "black" image as if the unit was on but just not functioning (I've seen the same "black" display on bad Astrocades when they croak).
The power supply does work on another 4 port I picked up. I was going to swap boards as the case on my bad 4 port is in NM condition but now I'd really like to see if I can fix this one.
What about swapping chips from the bad board to the good board to see which one (if any) is defective? Do I run the risk of messing up the good board if I swap in a bad chip?
I don't want to kill a perfectly good board!

New 5200 4 port owner here with problems looking for any help:
Hooked up the console and popped in a Pac-Man cart. System came on with a wavy image, sort of diagonal lines slanted right (/) like the picture was out of whack. Tried switching the 5200 to channel 2 but got the same thing. Switched it back to channel 3 and then changed the TV channel to 2. OK, so now I got a stable image so to speak but fuzzy and black and white (which I expected) but stable enough to start a game. Sound came through fine and I could play the game but again, wrong channel and still with a messed up picture on channel 3. (Tried other carts as well, just to be sure!)
Googled for Atari 5200 info and came across this forum (been to this site before but not for 5200 info as I've owned a 7800, now currently just a 2600 plus Coleco's, Bally's and Vectrex's).
Searched for anything that looked related but found nothing. Went back to check on the 5200 only to find a black screen. Yup, looks like it "died" while I was busy searching for a fix. Took it apart for some basic troubleshooting and cleaning with compressed air. Found no broken leads on the board, bad solder, etc. and re-seated all the chips.
Way to go Atari putting all those sockets on the board (de-soldering chips is not my favorite pastime!) but you lose points for the RF shield! (what, no screws?)
Nothing. Black screen remains. So where do I go from here? Any known issues like this? Do I get the board repaired or replaced and where would I go for this? Pick up another 4 port and just swap chips or the whole board?
Any leads or suggestions would be appreciated.

Opcode Games is back!

I actually think the new PCB idea is pretty brilliant.
While I have never had any problems with the CV systems I have, they are not getting any younger. Places like eCOLECO may be around now, but maybe not forever. If the original board goes bad, I may be SOL. With a replacement, I can pack the original PCB away for safekeeping, and be able to take advantage of the features of a new board. That, and not having one more peripheral device to put on display with the rest of my collection! (Any more collectibles and I'll be looking for a new house for more room!)
I also like the idea of the modern video/audio outpouts without having to modify the existing system with something like 8bitDomain produces.
I really hope this new project becomes a reality.
