  1. Top 5 1. Gravitar - Game Option 5 turns off the gravity, making it a completely different game. Easier and harder at the same time. 2. Starmaster - Best of the first person pilot's view shooters. 3. Pac-Man - Game Option 3 slows the monsters down, making for a fun game. 4. Ms. Pac-Man - I like to play with three monsters (everyone's present except Red). Again, the game options make it a better game. 5. Tutankham - A bit too hard but I like it a lot. The rest in no particular order 6. Berzerk - One of my most played. 7. Dark Chambers 8. Chopper Command 9. Enduro 10. Star Wars Death Star Battle 11. Empire Strikes Back 12. Missile Command 13. Spider Fighter 14. Superman 15. Vanguard 16. Cenitpede 17. Millipede 18. River Raid 19. Venture 20. Star Ship - After other games full of intense battles, it's fun to relax and just shoot stuff. Honorable Mentions 21. Gyruss 22. Adventure 23. Seaquest 24. Asteroids 25. Defender 26. Keystone Kapers 27. Megamania 28. Robot Tank 29. Yar's Revenge 30. Atari Video Cube That's 30 great games.
  2. Pac-Man is at the top of my list of 2600 games that I greatly enjoy, along with Ms Pac-Man. It isn't the same as the arcade game, not even close, but playing on game option 3 with the monsters slowed down I can actually play it for quite a while and get through something like 10 levels before the monsters speed up to a point where it gets difficult. I love Pac-Man. Maybe it's because I'm not necessarily looking for a challenge. I play video games to have fun, not to be a masochist. While Pac-Man is flawed (I won't argue with that), it is genuinely fun to play. Star Ship is my favorite "short game that lasts two minutes", in the same category as Air-Sea Battle, Canyon Bomber, and other such games. After struggling with StarMaster and a host of other games where the enemy relentlessly fires back, I get to have two minutes of fun shooting Klingon warships, flying saucers, and pink robots. Don't mind me, just cruising along in my invincible star ship! Sure, there are asteroids floating around, but all they can do is slow me down. I'm not trying to get a high score or anything, just having fun... in my invincible star ship where nothing can kill me. Yeah! Eh, who am I kidding? It sucks. But I like it. Defender was great back in the day. I was just a kid at the time, so what did I know? I played it to death when I was young, along with Pac-Man and many others. Defender hasn't aged well as a video game, in my opinion. The arcade game isn't very playable by current day standards because the controls are so counter-intuitive. I realize there are players who mastered those controls and got it down to an art form, but let's face the truth here: the controls were clumsy. The Atari 2600 fixes that problem with intuitive controls (just point your ship in the direction you want to go). Superman (also mentioned here as a bad game) is actually kinda fun when you know what's going on and what you have to do. I like it. It's not awesome, but not terrible either. Empire Strikes Back is good. I like it. H.E.R.O. I have mixed feelings about. It's good, but you really have to learn the levels by trial and error, memorize your route through each level, and then play it like a proper badass. Not one of my favorites, but not awful either. Tutankham is one of my favorite games, although it's too hard for me. I still like it, though. Good to see that no one mentioned my all-time favorite game: Gravitar. I mostly play on game option 5 (no gravity), which is ironic because the game is about gravity. Option 5 makes it a completely different game, harder because you have to thrust everywhere, and easier because you're not struggling against gravity the whole time.
  3. Hi, I'm new here. I played the original Adventure when it first came out back in the day. I was just a kid back then, but I do remember beating it. I played your game on the Atari Flashback Ultimate Portable, and I have to say, you guys did a great job on it. Much love was put into this, and it shows. The new graphics for castles, a fountain, bridge over water, and other areas are all great and add so much to the atmosphere of the game. I love the sword that you can aim, probably the best new gameplay feature. First time through on game variation 2, I kinda got lost in the southern region. The area with gray rocks that has many exits, I got lost there. Then I found the Volcano! Wow! What an awesome thing to add in there! Got the red key and went inside the Volcano, got the black key and unlocked the Black Castle, defeated the red dragon and got the Chalice. But I still hadn't been able to open the Ice Castle. I was confused. What could possibly be inside the Ice Castle? Something new? A new treasure, maybe? I worked hard at getting the white key that the troublesome bat kept moving around. That bat is the single most menacing character in the game! He's constantly stealing my stuff. I'm left defenseless because he stole my sword. I'm on the way to a castle to unlock it, and he steals my key! Playing these Adventure games is a lesson in patience. Anyway, I got the white key, unlocked the Ice Castle, and there was nothing there! After searching the interior and even using the bridge to gain access to two small dark areas with nothing in them, I realized that the Ice Castle and the Volcano are the same castle. That was disappointing. I think there's a missed opportunity there, to add something new. Having seen your discussion about avoiding an unbeatable game in the randomized objects variation, I understand why the two castles were linked together. Anyway, just wanted to say that your work is noticed and appreciated. Kudos! And a job well done on a really nice game!
