  1. Just wondering if anyone has ever been able to revive a non-working loudspeaker in a Lynx? I know that the problem is with the speaker, as when testing, I have gotten another one working on the same board, and the wires to the loudspeaker have been tested for continuity from the connector to the connections on the speaker. Physically the speaker looks fine, no tears or other visible damage. Are replacements easy to get a hold of?
  2. Does anyone else have problems with their game cards staying put with the older design carry case (the one without the velcro window flap to hold the cards in)? The cards invariably come out with the least amount of movement, and end up all over the shop. Anyone with any quick solutions?
  3. Agent X might be able to provide a better clue to the source of this rumour; he posted some information in the Lynx forum in a topic about Xybots: http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55221 To quote Agent X

    Lemmings

Currently on eBay UK: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MEBI:IT Looks like a very good complete copy though, maybe worth the price. Currently £64 is about $114. When I'm looking to bid on Lynx games, I usually check out the price NIB at www.telegames.co.uk, and if the game is complete, maybe go to about half what Telegames has it up for. Less then for loose, or with just manual. Telegames UK have both Lemmings and Xenophobe listed for £100. I recently got a Xenophobe in complete excellent condition for only £7.50, so I was well pleased. I'd only go to maybe £20 for Lemmings though; I have it on the GG, and it's a pretty good port. I suppose also it depends on how much you want a game though. Pacland is another on that regularly commands a good price, and I've been after one for a while now. I won mine last night for £10.50, and it's complete with box AND poster and looks in good condition. A loose copy of the same game went for the same price as mine a few days before, and I have seen loose carts of the same game go for over £20, crazy when you consider you can get it NIB for £25 @ Telegames.
  5. Good to hear the card isn't dead at least. You could try sticking some lengths of tape (sellotape, or masking tape, or similar) to the back of the card to help make a better contact. It would thicken the card, which sounds like what you need. Another alternative would be to have someone with a card that is definitely dead, peel back the sticker on both, and switch circuits and stickers. I think the circuit board just pops out when you remove the sticker. You'll make a bit of a mess of the stickers, but if you're into playing and not so much collecting, then this wouldn't matter too much. If I had a dead card I'd send the plastic to you, but I don't have any deads, yet!
  6. I can't believe that you would have to push a card in "hard" to make it work. Maybe he means "as far as it can go". Maybe him pusing it in hard has done some damage to the card, something physical, I dunno. Have you compared how the contacts extend downwards with other cards? There isn't a scan up of the card for Raiden here to have a look at, but I imagine they should be much the same as other cards. I haven't had any trouble with my 2 Telegames cards (Qix and Euro Soccer Chal), and didn't notice any difference in the contacts. I did compare the two scans of Qix and Rampart here, and did notice that the Qix card sticker covers more of the contacts than the Rampart sticker, so maybe you're sticking the card in a bit too much? Maybe try pushing it in as far as it will go (not hard), and then pull it back out a bit, say a couple of millimetres, then switching it on. As you said, it would be good to be able to test it in another machine. If you think it's not going in far enough, you could try cutting off the plastic bit (or at least trimming it back) that extends below the contacts. That would definately allow you to push it in further. Anyway, best of luck. I've been lucky so far, no duds yet after 35. I've had a few slow strats, but a gentle clean of the contacts has always done the trick.
  7. I don't know for sure if the games are European or whatever, but the game listing on the front of the cart are also in Japanese (pic attached), so I figure maybe they are Japanese versions. I've downloaded a few of the ROMS to try to compare, but as far as I can tell, they are the same (Jap games seem to have english regardless); I will try to do a proper analysis asap. My system was bought in the UK, but I understand that shouldn't matter as far as carts are concerned - it should play them all. But does anyone know about the Master Gear converters/adaptors, do they handle any sort of electronic "conversion", or do they just "adapt" to the different pin configuration between the SMS and GG carts?

  9. I used a couple, depending on the game, and how many characters were allowed. Most common was "C W", or "CW", or variants of my initials. I started using GOD when playing Hyper Sports, because, well, I ruled at that game. I remember some little'er kid than me watching me play one day, getting through 5 or 6 full sheets of the game, getting 7 perfects in the archery, planting moles on every pole vault, hitting perfects in the skeet, and he was truly in awe, and said I must have been God to be able to play like that. I used the disgusting technique of sticking my fingers in my mouth between rounds to make them nice and slippery, using the three finger flick on each of the running buttons to get the speed to max.
  10. I think he meant the inserts that go under the plastic cover of the case that some MD games have, a bit like the artwork inserts on most DVD releases.
  11. You're probably after higher quality scans than these: http://www.genesiscollective.com/ShowPage....hp?GameLink=182 http://www.genesiscollective.com/ShowPage....hp?GameLink=216 Maybe the site owners there have higher resolution that they can send you?
  12. I got one the other day. It's an 18 in 1 cartridge with the following games: COLUMS (sic), GHOST HOUSE, PENGO, STAELLILE (sic), WOODY POP, HANG NO (sic),BASEBALL, SOCCER, ASTRO FLASE (sic), TENNIS, MY HERO, MACHING GUN (sic), SPY VS SPY, ARKANOID (same as Woody Pop), PIT POT, EASY PENGO (same as Pengo, but I think has unlimited lives), TEDDY BOY (I believe it to be TB Blues - music is like in arcade version), GHOST HOUSE A few of the games appear to be the actual GG versions, like Columns, Pengo (and easy pengo), and work well, and the others have the "Sega Mark III" intro at the game start, but with these games there is a significant amount of constant flickering, almost like some refresh rate is incorrect. Has anyone had any experience with these cartridges? Is what I'm expereincing normal fare? Is it possible that a newer GG model might make it work better? I was thinking about the above, and the Master Gear adaptor device. Does this device just adapt to the different pin configuration, or is there also some electronics inside the adaptor to make the SMS cartridges work. If there is no electronics inside, then I guess that the GG handles the converting of the code, etc. of the older SMS cart to make it work on the GG. If this is the case, then maybe there is a slight problem with my GG unit. Anyone with any clues? What might be at fault, the cartridge, my GG unit, or is the flickering normal with these carts. Thanks for any helpful comments.
  13. Was it bought new or S/H? If you bought it new, take/send it back to where you got it. If you got it S/H, and it was advertised as working, (try to) get a refund. But before resorting to the above, try cleaning the contacts again. Peeps often recommend q-tips and some sort of rubbing alcohol (or even paint thinner), but do so at your own risk. Failing that, try an eraser, and give the contacts a good rubbing with it - has been known to work on carts that were given up for dead. After that, insert and withdraw the cart a few times from the slot - this action would freshen the contacts more, as I believe the pins in the slot cut slightly into the contacts on the cart to ensure a circuit is formed.
  14. No. As far as I am aware, all these games had regular booklet manuals. The games that have posters for manuals have their own gallery: http://www.atariage.com/Lynx/archives/post...uals/index.html I think the only one missing from there is the one for Pac-Land: http://i23.ebayimg.com/01/i/02/8f/31/a3_1_b.JPG
  15. I was browsing through the manual scans here for the Lynx games, and was surprised to see that the games that are missing actual scans (there are html text versions up) are the ones that I figured would have most likely had scans available. The games I'm specifically talking about are Blue Lightning, California Games, Electrocop and Slime World (all Epyx games). Is it because these games are among the oldest, and intact manuals are hard to come by, or is there another reason, such as copyright issues, etc. I would have imagined these would have been the first scans up.
  16. That's pretty bad, uhh... I mean good!! I'd be hard pressed to better that, but I'll give it a shot. Bad games for me usually go to about 60 or 70 tiles taken. I presume you mean 38 tiles taken off the board!?
  17. Someone did a pretty good job of making a box for this game: http://www.uni-giessen.de/~gd1113/lynx/lr/ For the hardcore collector...
  18. Well, if nothing else, the TC manual/poster is pretty good - probably worth a pound or two (inc P&P).
  19. This is probably the best I've found so far, to whomever is interested: http://www.smspower.org Although it's primarily SMS, they have sections on the GG too, although not nearly as comprehensive as AA, but it seems they're working on it.
  20. I recently got this exact product from eBay (from a different seller) to repair a deep gouge that was in the middle of my Lynx screen. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...6315092988&rd=1 The gouge was deep and wide enough notice with a fingernail when drawn across the screen (I could really feel the gouge). Anyway, the stuff worked great, I can only see whats left of the gouge when looking at an extremely acute angle, an angle I wouldn't ever be playing at. One thing I did notice was that where I had to rub, there was a slight alteration to the plexi, and it has a colouration like a transparent rainbow, you know like the colour when you see a little petrol in a puddle of water. It's not too serious, and definately a lot better than the gouge. It's only really noticable when playing very static games, like Awesome Golf.
  21. Looks like I wasn't the first to report this - bummer! http://www.cheek.org/atari/lynx/superskw.htm

    Xybots...

Just found this link - would be great to have added to the site info for the game: http://www.cheek.org/atari/lynx/xybots.htm In fact, maybe someone would want to go through all the games there, and check out what might be missing from here, and add to the database. The BRAVO cheat I "discovered" for Super Skweek had already been reported here. At a quick glance, I see extra information for Toki and Checkered Flag (cruise control).
  23. It might be blasphemy asking about Sega stuff here, but I was wondering if there is a site of similar quality to AtariAge dedicated to Sega? I'd be particularly be interested in checking out Game Gear stuff, like hardware, games, rarity, box and manual scans. I'm only interested because I recently aquired a Game Gear and 3 games; the only reason I got it was because it came with an Atari Lynx deluxe carry case! I've paid less for the lot than I would have expected to pay for the case alone on somewhere like eBay. I've been checking out some of the games for the GG,, and might be interested in some of the puzzle type games (loved Baku Baku Animal on the PC, and Columns in the arcade, or rather MAME). Would be good to have a similar resource as AtariAge to check things out on the GG. I have done some searching, but the info seems to be well dispersed, and therefore difficult to digest. Makes me realise how excellent a resource AA actually is. Thanks for any direction.
  24. Yep, those two (and another to unlock the forbidden islands) have already been reported. http://www.atariage.com/software_hints.htm...twareHintID=400 It was through messing around with these ones that I found the new one. I also scanned the rest of the screen for any more hidden things, but I don't think there are any more. But I might be wrong... (but I don't think so, as I checked a few times and REALLY took my time )
  25. Has anyone has managed to duplicate on their own machines and/or in Handy? Just wondering if the instructions are clear enough. Thanks.
