1997 when I was 23. Before this I was really into arcades a kind of shunned consoles. Although through my teenage years I would force a couple friends to let me play their old Ataris. They would always be like "I got a NES, lets play SMB" or "Check out the graphics on this" or "Why do you wanna play those old games?" I didn't even know there was a classics gaming scene, I just liked the simple timeless game play instead of Konami codes and million button combos.

Is an Atari Jaguar worth owning?
Cobra Commander replied to TaskenLander's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've owned consoles just for a couple games. NES being one of them. -
I just checked this on a TV that I was going to use in project. Super crappy RF reception from two known good units. I haven't connected a 2600 to a modern TV in several years, and it was a better set(do people say TV set anymore?) I've been using a CRT that was left at my house after a yard sale. I think the newer little cheap one is LED compared to the LCD. I guess I need to choose a mod to continue.

There has to be another device you can put in there somewhere. Does anyone know if I can use dial up on a MagicJack?

I'll keep my eye out for Hangman.

I like to call things like this "anomalies." Like the Joust "p" label and Pole Positin'. Cool.

It was a Stargunner($30-$50) from the wild in a trade, but I added a lot of stuff recently. Maybe Atari Video Cube($50-$80). These are guesses.

Because my university has a printer in the library. However, I have yet to think of anything that I would like to make. I don't think the plastic would make good stamp material any way. Every time I think of something to print, its always "Oh ya they already do that another way, that already works fine." I should just go out to the the garage and carve one out of wood.

Sad realization in my life...
Cobra Commander replied to 82-T/A's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I figured it out this year. I got more money than time. Where it used to be the opposite. In my 20's and 30's when I was single little hustles like this were fun and fruitful in scale. Now all I think about is how do I get more time and how do I not waste what I got. Damn, my oats are getting cold. -
OG! I guess I missed this thread while I was in the Hospital. But wow, I wonder if something like this could be made on a 3D printer?

What should I look for when buying a 5200?
Cobra Commander replied to bikeguychicago's topic in Atari 5200
Good topic. I see 5200's pretty often but have been reluctant to make the plunge. The size of the catalog is appealing as well. Maybe soon, if I get rid of one child to make room. -
I made something like this a while back out of two of the circuit board edge connector sides of the ZIF connector and soldered them together. Yes, 144 solder joints with heat shrink tubing. I put it in a Stella case for kicks. I posted a thread several years ago, but still have some cosmetic issues to fix. It sits in a box in the garage for now.

Without a meter to check voltages and resistance there is little that can be done aside from a visual inspection. Start with the power supply.

Pensacola/Mobile game stores?
Cobra Commander replied to Rhomaios's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The Mobile flea market has four or five ok vendors. One or two of the vendors have brick and mortar stores. I believe on is called Talk and Trade which is in Mobile, and I believe the other is in Mississippi. There is only one Independent in Pensacola that I'm aware of and they don't have anything older than NES. The Pensacola flea market is kinda a bust lately. The Gulf Breeze flea market has one vendor who has a very large but very dirty inventory, He has lots of systems set up ready to test play what ever you want, but the dust is kinda thick. There is also a nice little store in downtown Folley Alabama. The games are kept nicely but the prices are all over the place, there will be a $15 Donkey Kong sitting next to a $2 Donkey Kong. I've got a stack of business cards around here to help out, I'll post later.- 1 reply

Best Place to Find Games Cheap in the East Coast?
Cobra Commander replied to Starf's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Not familiar with your area, but a lot of flea markets in the south are not doing so well. A few of the largest ones are getting real good. I've had some recent luck in the independent game stores. Atari seems to be playing second or even third fiddle to Nintendo and others. Also when dealing with fleamarket vendors, bring a notebook with your list and some notes. This can help you look like an experienced collector with high standards. I like to get a big stack on the counter and and then cull out the broken games and the ones with out labels, and then start negotiating price on the few games I like. If they keep them behind the counter ask about manuals and boxes even if you don't really care about CIB, anything to improve your position as the one with the CASH.
