Amstrad GX4000 - anyone spent any time with it
Seob replied to AtariORdead's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Bought one a few years ago. Only have 1 game for it, the packin game burning rubber. Would love to have more games, but they are to expensive. Love the design of the console. Always reminds me of a snowspeeder. -
Check the solder points of the rf box to see if there are problems with it. And try a different tv.

List of hardware bugs that affected consoles?
Seob replied to 7800fan's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Didn't the original c64 sid have a few bugs? That where cleverly used by programmers to give the sid extra's. It was fixed in the later sid-2 giving it a different sound or stopped games from running. -
No, i don't think that there are any. You have to build on yourself http://musictechnologiesgroup.com/blog/?p=23

I also have a nms8250, with working diskdrive. I formatted a disk on the msx, then i put it inside my pc and put a diskimage of a msx game on it. Put it back in the msx and i can load games. But it all depends on the diskimage. Not all images will work.
-
Don't know how it is handeling sectors, so i cannot give a answer. You cycle trough the images using the buttons. I use a spreadsheat to keep track at what number a diskimage is stored.

Got it working. Had to set a few jumpers. Jumper 3 for setting it into 720Kb 3.5" mode. Jumper 5 for setting the ready signal. And Jumper 6 to get rid off disk offline messages after switching disks. It did work without setting jumper 6, but you had to type in files 2x to read the disk. The finished cable. The gnd's that wheren't needed on the 34 pin side i just cut off and put a shrinkwrap around it. The drive plate had to be altered also. Broke off the old taps that hold the drive in place since they where to narrow. I jut used professional double sided tape to fix the drive onto the plate. The jumpers that need to be set are unterneath the topcover. You have to unscrew the top to get access to them. Drive in place and hooked up with a usb thumbstick. I used the software that is available on the ipcas website: http://www.ipcas.com/support/usb-floppy-emulation-download.html to format the stick into 720Kb diskimages. Then i used the software to write *.dsk files to the different folders. The only thing i haven't fixed yet is the fact that it tries to autoload the first folder always. I tried to leave this folder empty but then my msx got into a booting loop. I now have a image into this folder that needs a 256Kb msx, so it boots, give a error that i have to little space, and than i can use the system. Loading a image is easy if there is a autoexec.bas in the selected folder. Just select the folder you want and press reset once. The system preformes a soft reset and starts booting the diskimage.

Browsing online to find a solution to store my kids lego manuals, i stumble upon this cool Lego NES. It's for sale at http://powerpig.storenvy.com/products/5174624-my-first-game-console-sprite-edition Or you can build it yourself http://www.powerpig.ca/lego_kit_guides_2014/my_first_console_sprite.pdf

While we didn't have a computer or a console at home until i was about 13 or 14, i played a lot on the Philips Videopac, Atari 2600 and later on the Commodore 64, Philips MSX, Philips P2000 when i was younger at friends and family. I was mostly into PC gaming, but didn't collect yet. Then about 14 years ago, i walked inside a thriftshop and found a Intellivision. I never had heard of that console, so i bought it. Then i discovered that there where more consoles beside the A2600 and Videopac that i knew from memory. And so i started to discover the console and computers i never had seen when i was young.

To replace my broken diskdrive inside my philips vg8234 msx2,i bought a usb floppydisk emulator. It can be jumpers as a 720kb 3.5" disk drive. It can also be jumpert as 1.44mb 3.5" , 1.2mb 5 1/4" and 720kb 5 1/4". I now need to make a cable to use it inside the msx2, since that uses a 14 wire cable instead of a 34 one. When it's finished i will post my findings here. .

Great video as usual. But for those who want to watch the video, make sure you're wife isn't watching. Otherwise collecting will never be the same again.- 9 replies

Are FB Groups Taking Traffic Away From WWW Forums?
Seob replied to VectorGamer's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Not for me. Can't see why facebook would be great to use instead of a forum. Even AA is easy to read on a smartphone. -
That's a huge expansion case.

Sound blaster doesn't need drivers. You just need to set the blaster in autoexec.bat like set blaster=a... i. d. On the dots you fill in the adres set by jumpers on board, the irq and dma. For setting the jumpers you can look here http://pbclub.pwcsite.com/PBInfo/Jumpers/Sound%20Card%20Jumpers/Creative%20Labs/CREATIVE-LABS-INC-Sound-card-SOUNDBLASTER-2-0-CT13.html For the mouse, i think you can use any dos mouse driver. Put it in the autoexec.bat and you're set.

A game-selector-box for John Dondzilla's Odyssey 2 multicart
Seob replied to Rolo's topic in Odyssey 2 / Videopac
Just for the record for those not familiar with the odyssey 2 multicards. John's cart uses dipswitches, the menu driven multicard is made by a different person named Rene_g7400. Cannot see it in the picture, but are there small knobs above and below the number selector to select the game? -
If it uses a 100hz refresh rate i think you're in trouble. I have a 100 hz flatscreen crt loewe and i cannot use my playstation lightguns (namco) on it. I need to use a 50hz tv.

I love Asphalt on the N-gage, plays pretty good. Sealed games are not hard to come by. Guess they had a very big stock of games that just didn't sell back in the days.

Love Asphalt on the n-gage. It's a very good racing game for the n-gage. Also love asphalt 8 on the ipad. Took a little to get used to the controles but after getting used to it it's a really good game.

Mem test shows only 1 mb. The ultrinit tool shows ultrasound with ics. will look if i have other mem chips. I know it isn't a original gus hence the title.

Looks like i solve the problem with the card not running. Took an other PC with 95, and had the same problem running the Gravis. I then delete the drive, installed dos 6.22, ran the setup and now it works.

This Saturday i had a decent haul at the thrift shop. Found a very dirty Nes, with 2 controllers. Hatch and power supply missing. Came with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. Together with 2 Gus compatible 16 bit isa sound cards. Total 10 euro. I just can't find the manufacturer of the sound card. One of the 2 cards comes with a Promise 27256 bios chip installed. The other card lacks this rom. I guess this is only for the onboard ide controller. If i'm correct both cards are fitted with 1 Mb ram IC's, U1 and U2 are the fixed 512Kb ram and U3 and U4 seem to be the extra 512 Kb memory banks. The main sound IC's are the Gravis GF1 and the Advanced Gravis GF1D1. So i think it's a Ultrasound Classic. On the backside of the board, etched into it it says 'Ultrapromise-2' searching for this, only leads to Promise Ultra-66 ide controllers. Searching for Promise Technology on the Bios chip also leads to IDE controllers only. On the front the board says 'Amigo', but searching for this leads me to Turtle Beach USB sound cards. Searching for 'UT-8D 94V-0' leads to pci ethernet cards. There are no FCC codes on the board so i cannot search for this. It's not a original card, since they are red. Tried searching on Vogons but it's not listed there. Yesterday i tried to install the card, but my Fujitsu Ergopro e452 doesn't free my DMA channels, so i couldn't get it running. Had the same problem with a Creative isa sound card so i think the problem isn't the sound card. So anyone who knows this card?
