  2. You can try and find a remote controller, if you don't have a 450 or 550 model, since those haven't got ir built in. It's not the best controller, but i guess they aren't that expensive. At least you can try out some games.

The cd-i doesn't have a copy protection, so you can try out whatever game you want.

The only thing that you may need to play some games is the dv cartridge. Since some use the extra memory for sound or video.

I to like the cd-i a lot. So check games for yourself, a lot of people just use the zelda games to say all games on the cd-i are bad.

Like mentioned above, the apprentice is a good game, i also like mutant rampage, other good games are lucky luke the videogame, cristmas crisis, burn:cycle, secret mission, flashback to name a few.

  3. I have sold a few odyssey2 prototypes to fund buying my phat ps3 bc system. And i never had regrets. They where just laying arround in a box, so i sold them.

I can still play the games on my multicart, so no loss there. I just don't own the carts anymore.

I was like, if i keep the games, and for no reason they stop working, they don't have much value anymore. And i want a new console so i can play the new games. I have put hours and hours in my ps3, against maybe 5 minutes top looking at those carts.

  4. NTSC/60fps games not only run faster than most PAL ports, but they also often have a proper music tempo and pitch and always have a more appropriate aspect ratio. If you have never experienced NTSC speed, you have nothing to compare it to. But we can go down this road further of what the original creators intended. Playing an US port of a Japanese game is often one step removed from what the creative team intended. Difficulty levels change, elements get censored, features are added or subtracted and of course there is language translation.

Like i said, before, if it wasn't for the internet, i wouldn't have a direct comparison, so i'm fine with what i got. Also you make it as if all games are developed in either japan or the us. But a lot of game are also developed in europe, so maybe you don't experience all the games as they where intended.

Point is stop acting like you're native format is the only way games should be experienced. Let everybody experience games how they want and accept that there are more ways to enjoy gaming, and stop calling it stupid if somebody is fine with the way they enjoy playing games.

  5. "It's what I grew up with" in reference to PAL collectors when I tell them NTSC games are cheaper and run at the proper speed.

And why would that be stupid? Maybe ntsc games are cheaper, but factor in the cost of shipping and all that cheapness is undone.

Btw there are plenty of titles that are cheaper here then the us relative, like stadium event.

Games run faster on ntsc, but why would i care, i'm living in a PAL country, i don't have a direct comparision, so i wouldn't notice the diverence.

So why would it be a stupid thing if a collector says he is used to it.

  6. We got any UK/European gamers who wanna weigh in on 'the NES did/did not save console gaming'? I'm curious because a British guy I watch on Youtube has stated more than once that, due to a late & bungled release, NES didn't take off over in Europe. They mostly played home computers. I'd love to hear some other perspectives on that- I don't want to take one guy's word for it. If it's true though, it really emphasizes the NES being a 'right place right time' product for the American market, as opposed to a worldwide game changer. (Since, as I understand it, Sega ruled Latin America.)

I live in the Netherlands, and console gaming wasn't that big at the time. Most people looked at a console and said, if i pay 50 more i get a computer that can do more, and can be used for homework.

Most people where gaming on the c64 or a msx computer, they where the most populair homecomputers in my area. Later on people moved to the amiga, some to the st, and most to pc's due to the pc at home projects a lot of companies had.

Most consoles i did see in the early days where the a2600 or the philips videopac. Later the Sega mastersystem took over. If i recall both the mastersystem and the megadrive sold better than the Nintendo offers.

  7. if it's about film preservation and archiving, VHS tape is just about the worst medium possible. Magnetic Tape has the shortest lifespan of any storage medium.

Nope magnetic tape is one of the best storage solutions. Hence al the tapestreamers for backing up.

If handled correct and used in a good deck, vhs isn't bad.

I find it strange that a collector would say that collecting vhs is crazy. Some would say collecting videogames is crazy, and yet we do collect.

  8. Some seem to forget that there is also a culture difference in using a credit card. A lot of European people haven't got a credit card. A lot of people over here are used to the fact, that can only buy something, when you got the cash at hand. It's starting to shift a bit because of the internet, but there is still a hugh difference.

So that's why they may ask if you would hold on to an item until they get paid.

For me that still doesn't make sence, if i want something, i only check adds and the internet, when i do have money for it. If i know i cannot spend extra cash this month, i don't look.

  9. Well the hobby is far from dying. While some resellers may buy multiple copies of a game to drive the price up, fact is most people who cry and bitch over what prices are, are the same people who wouldn't pay the going rate anyhow. I mean if they would the resellers wouldn't be buying them all. Think about it, if you are not willing to pay going rate now you don't want it that bad.

Just buy it if you want it, stop complaining about it. Resellers are not killing the hobby. Fact is more people want these games than before and people are willing to pay for them. It's plain and simple. If the price is bad it will not sell. If the price is right :) they will sell. If you want to blame anyone blame Tim Berners-Lee for creating the internet.

Prices are not going down anytime soon. These games were available for purchase over the past 20-30 years and now people want to complain over not buying them back when they were $5.

Oke let me be a bit more specific. There are a few "collectors" in my neighborhood that buy everything up, have a few guys that go to all the local fleamarkets and pick all the nice stuff, and resell or trade with other collectors for ebay prices and lowball you.

I also trade stuff with other collectors, but i trade them for fair prices, that are way beyond the usual going rate.

Maybe i'm stupid for doing so, but i hate it to lowball people.

  10. With plays almost all amiga gamea i mean the classic ocs games. These are the games most people think of when talking about amiga games. The 1200 never had a great impact, most people by that time started to switch to pc. So very few exclusive games are available.

I play most of the games on my cdtv since that is what i have setup. Just a plain cdtv, modded to accept normal atari style joysticks, and a switch to disable the cdrom bios to free up a little extra memory.

I sometimes use my cd32 with a disk full of a500 games and a hacked a500 keyboard.

I have a few 500's but i almost never use them. My 1200 sadly is broken.

  11. The deal on the Voice is that it only works with the later Odyssey 2 titles, so not all of them, actually more than 90% or so, don't have the Voice feature built in. A popular game that does have the Voice feature would be K.C.'s Krazy Chase. Another one is Attack of the Time Lord.

If you're interested in homebrew games, there are a few games that support the voice module.
  12. SWEET deal. Have fun.

There are a few options for rewritable cartridges like:

    The c7030 by Rene7400

Then there is the Mateos rewritable cartridge.

the multicart to get is the c7060 by Rene7400, but i don't know if it is still in production.

Screenshots can be found on sites like www.videopac.nl where you can find info on the multicart and new releases.

A other good site on the odyssey2 would be www.the-nextlevel.com/odyssey2/

  13. To keep my collection within reasons, i only collect systems that came on the market in my country. To futher keep my collection from expanding to much, i try to collect anout 10 "must" have or exclusive titles that came out on those systems, complemented with the odd to good to not buy it offers.

So i don't collect to complete. I also rarely buy homebrews, because i can spent money only once, and for 1 homebrew title i can buy a few other games. I'm aware that developers need to earn some money back from releasing homebrews, but i want to keep my collection "small" and time period correct.

But i do have a softspot for late 70's early 80's homecomputers. My favorite homecomputer to collect for is the msx computer. Love the Konami games.

I also have a softspot for underdog systems. Really love to collect for the cd-i, one of my favorite systems.
