  1. Nice looking setup, just a question, why did you put the a1000 on the table instead of the a2000?
  2. Nice pictures, the room really match the computer. That is such a good looking computer.
  3. I loved games like The blues brothers Commander keen Rick dangerous Jazz jackrabbit Centurion Lhx A-10 tankkiller Street rod Need to dive into those dom's. I recently got a ibm model 30 286, without a harrdisk. Since this system doesn't have molex connectors, the only solution without hacking and not using a esdi drive, would be a isa ide controller paired with a dom or cf card.
  4. Guess at our age we start to get through the dreaded midlife crisis. Some will sell off everything, others will buy more. I have been downsizing, resizing my collection for years. First selling off old computers, then the older consoles, only to rebuy them later. That said i need to sell of some stuff, keeping spare systems can be usefull, but they take up a lot of space. So i need to check what still works, after that i will be selling of some a2600, videopac, c64, amiga, nes, snes and cd-i hardware. Recently i started getting back into retro pc gaming, but i need to downsize that as well, guess i collected around 10 pc's within a couple of months. There is stuff i didn't regret selling, since the money that i got for those systems was spent onto my 2 sons, and a ps3 that i play a lot. Rare stuff like my videopac game prototypes, a philips :yes, a commodore pet, philips p2000, laser 2001, comx35. It was kinda sad to let them go, but once i got the money i was over it. Other then selling of my spare systems, i don't think i will downsize my collection. Hope my sons will enjoy those systems, got to play some more games together with them, to generate intrest in them. As for buying games, i made a list of games for most off the systems i have with must have games for the system, that i like to play.
  5. The first cd-i player released was the cd-i 180/181/182 unit. Released in 1988 as a joined venture between Philips and Kyocera. The system is modular, the 180 contains the cd drive, the 181 is the controller and the 182 is the expansion bay, containing a floppy drive, scsi controller and ports. For cd-i operations you need the 180 and 181.
  6. There Was a test cart, the service test cart. Don't know if it is still available, but you could check the videopac forum thread about it. http://videopac.nl/forum/index.php?topic=2306.0
  7. If i'm correct you could hotswap games, but not totally sure. Think some of the contacts on the cartridge where longer to discharge electro static.
  8. Can only talk about the mage series, but i really liked them. Sure you only dodge the enemys, but you have to pick up items in the game to get further. Graphics wish they really look nice. But i like games where you shoot more then i like dodging so that's why i only have the mage serie. Ktaa is great. Other homebrews i cannot say, since i don't collect them.
  9. It was Nintendo who canceled the release of the cd add-on, after seeing that the mega-cd wasn't a big succes.Still think that the cd-i player is a great piece of hardware. It wasn't designed for games, but after the sales department noticed that the cd-i was sold more and more to be used as a games machine, they started to focus more on the gaming side of the machine and thus releasing the cd-i 450 and 550 models. They just shifted a bit to late to gaming. If they had focus more on it's gaming part and less on the multimedia part, i think they could have had more succes. When it was just on the market it was pretty powerfull, but by the time the focus was on gaming, the hardware was already a bit outdated.
  10. My sidewinder forcefeedback pro stick has a usb to 15pin converter. Think it's only compatible with microsoft joysticks.
  11. I like the CD-i. I have a soft spot for systems that where the underdog. My collection of CD-i stuff contains: 1x Philips CD-i 450 1x Magnavox CD-i 550 1x Philips CD-i 470 1x Philips CD-i 210 1x Phiips CD-i 220 1x 22ER9011 CD-i mouse 1x 22ER9012 Kids Roller Controller 1x 22ER9013 CD-i Trackerball 1x 22ER9017 CD-i Touchpad (Gravis Gamepad) 2x 22ER9021 CD-i Gamepad 1x 22ER9020 Peachkeaper Gun 1x 22ER9042 CD-i KeyControl 1x 22ER9051 CD-i Thumbstick 1x 22ER9055 Cd-i Commander All cd-i players have a dvc installed. Plus the games 78 in total. (87 was a typo). So you can say that i'm addicted.
  12. I've been looking trough my stack of about 87 cd-i games, and the only games that support 2 player simultaneous are: International Tennis 2 player edition Micromachines Pac-Panic Solar Crusade Guess that two player gaming with micromachines and pac-panic is great, international tennis i don't know, and solar crusade is very expensive. So i guess it's worth only if you can get it cheap. What you could do, is to buy the 2 different versions of the gamepad that are available, so you can switch between the 2 controllers, depending on what gamepad fits you're hands better.
  13. Could be they where exported in parts to the usa, and then assembled there. Then you are able to slap a made in the usa label on the box. I know of a manufacturer here that makes every part here in Europe, then ships it to the usa. Flying European people in to assemble it in a factory in the usa. And he is allowed to sell it as made in the usa. Why?, just to avoid stupid lawsuits.
  14. Philips claimed that all software for the cd-i that has the cd-i logo on the disk, should be able to use on any system regardless of the region. Until now i think the only game having trouble with it is family games 2.I could supply you with a list of cd-i games i have for trade. Got a lot of spare games.
  15. just 20 km from the border. problem is that games are localized. most pc games in the netherlands back then where english, while in germany you would likely have a german based game. Also some games where altered because of german law. Like wolfenstein.
  16. Nice find. I have a few games for trade. Have to look what games, though, but i guess about 15. But i don't know if they run on us systems.
  17. Grim fandango alone would be great to find at 20 dollar. Would love to find such a great find. Some nice games for my collection.
  18. Love Beos. Bought the retail boxed version of beos 5 back in the day. Great speed, and multitasking. To bad i got rid of my dual p2 and my ppro systems. Would be cool to run it on those systems. My username is based on beos.
  19. Indeed just for the easy use of older software. And because i have the space for it. If you don't have space, one is enough. But you have to fiddle a bit to get older software to run playable. For instance i'm running commanche on my p100, but it's running a bit to fast making it more difficult to play.
  20. Back then i stopped lending games to other people, no matter who it was. I once lent my gamegear out, and got it back with a big scratch on the screen. On a other occasion i got a the game with a broken box back. Somehow people aren't carrefull with stuff if it isn't theirs.
  21. I have 2 retro pc's i currently use. For early dos games until 96/97 i use a pentium 100, 32meg ram, 1mb pci vga card, a logitech soundman wave (until i get a working sb 16/32 awe) and a gravis ultrasound max. Later games that need win95 i use a pentium 233mmx, matrox g200 2mb, 3dfx voodoo2 12mb, and a opti soundcard. As a display i use a sony lcd monitor. This hasn't given me any issues running dos games. It has a 4:3 screen ratio, that i think is a must have. In most cases tv screens aren't the best choice because they cannot display every screensize. For win 95/98 a pentium II 233 would be nice, in combination with a bx chipset mainboard. Soundcard doesn't really matter because of directx. Back then i used a sb live, it's a nice card and not very expensive. Guess for video a geforce graphicscard would be nice.
  22. The soundman wave uses a opl4 chipset.I'm currently bidding on a sb awe 64 gold. Hope i can get it cheap. My sb 16 i currently own doesn't work. Driver isn't able to find the card.
  23. I often use vogons. It's a great source for classic pc gaming. Also a great source for drivers for the more obscure soundcards. Found my logitech soundman wave drivers on vogons.
