  1. Even though i'm not major fans of either, I'd have to put the NES and SMS in a higher bracket then Intellivision and 7800. Purely for the complexity of games like Zelda - they really are a measurable leap over the others in that bracket.
  2. Now, I'm asking this on behalf of my girlfriend Kate. Right... we're all familiar with the wood-effect panel on the original VCS front. But does every unit have the same grain or does it vary? haha I can't believe I asked this, but now I have - I'd REALLY like to know
  3. Oh yeah, the Atari wouldn't have been much use at all if John Logie Baird hadn't come up with the television
  4. The computer was invented by Charles Babbage, a yorkshireman in the early 20th century (it was made of wood and brass and had big cogs). Oh, and I like it cold Hmmm, I could really stir things up here. ahem.....the lightbulb was REALLY invented by a scotsman (ducks for cover)
  5. Oh yeah - and we invented computers, industrialisation and no-one even gets the opportunity to own a handgun. And we can drink all we like at 18. Warm beer in a big glass......with a wasp in
  6. Well, I live in the UK, we get free healthcare, culture by the tonne, we live in houses older than both your countries and the English language belongs to us Ha!
  7. yeah, its wierd that the Spectrum wasn't really pushed much in the States. It had a software quantity that made the 2600's look like..well.. the Arcadia! Its a shame you guys missed out on several key points in the history of gaming - they all started on this little fella. If you get a chance, download an emulator - and track down games by 'Ultimate' (now rareware!) and the platform genius Matthew Smiths two greats, Manic Miner and Jetset Willy. This guy did as much for platform gaming as our mutual legend, Mr Crane. Oh yeah, check out Sandy Whites- 3D Ant Attack- the FIRST EVER solid isometric platformer. Great days sorry, got carried away there hehe
  8. i see the leap from 16 to 32 bit, ie. dedicated 3d hardware et al. But how do we justify this leap to '6th' generation. PS2, Xbox and Gamecube games only differ from PS1 and Saturn games in purely cosmetic senses. I'd hold off that 6th generation until something REALLY immersive comes along.
  9. hey Pitfall harry, if you can't wear your activision shirt - you could keep it as something to stick the patches on if you've a mind to collect them
  10. Pitfall - seemed to start a trend
  11. anyone ever had a 2600 stick break on them? They look (and feel) hard as nails.
  12. We all know Combat is a great game, right? It may well be common as muck - now -but if we're buying all we can see and cannibalising 'em, how are any new Atari fans gonna get into it. I'd hate to think that I wouldn't have been able to start myself up with 'the standards' because some hardcore collector had bought em all up for some reason. Someone is going to have to find a way to make carts, sorry.
  13. This is only sort-of VCS related. I've seen those Activision 10-in-1 game thingies online and have decided that my life is now a farce without one. Problem is, I live in the UK - anyone know of a company who'll export??
  14. I'm not sure I'd allow C64. Its a computer! Why not have Spectrum and Apple 2 as well?
  15. now i'm confused. Everybody battle it out and I'll make my purchase decision based on the bodycount
  16. oh yeah, is monsters inc any good? Is it more Toy Story or Bugs life? We dont get it for a few months in the UK (mind, at least our Harry Potter film has the correct title )
  17. hmm, just checked this site and it seems Xenophobe is available in (rare-ish) NTSC form. Oh well - anyway - question still stands.
  18. That's completely amazing. Thrift shopping here in the UK is so bad that (no kidding) if you found 'Combat' you might as well throw a street party! I'm so jealous of you guys. You were always so much better at capitalism
  19. A query to all you rabid collectors, Its recently come to my attention that Xenophobe (apart from being quite good) is PAL only, are there any other good PAL exclusives that are worth playing? Oh yeah, is SSSnake by Data Age any good? Saw one today boxed for a fiver (borderline expensive) Cheers
  20. I guess this makes sense. 2002 will be the 20th anniversary of the glow-in-the-dark booger alien. i wouldn't mind them doing an update of the Atari game, the only (major!!) problem with it is that it was rushed. There were a lot of cool ideas in it that, given a bit of work, would make a pretty smart game.
  21. Xenophobe is PAL only? Cool, I'll track down a copy Its not often we get exclusive stuff with our wierd (but way better haha) TV standard. On that note, my all-black 2600jr (the one only sold in Ireland) arrives tommorow. can't wait
  22. Yeah, I'd build a house using it as a foundation I could probably tile the roof with 7800 joypads
  23. Hallo, I'm in the UK too (carts are not too easy to come by here are they?). it's worth noting that the amount of games in PAL format is not going to be anything like as much as the NTSC library. I'm only just starting to collect properly (and, like a previous post here recommended) I'm starting with Activision. careful with these though, you'll see a lot of games on ebay as 'mint boxed' - these are usually modern Telegames rereleases with cruddy white labels and black and white manuals (proper activision carts and manuals are class!). have you got an Atari yet? get yourself a nice woodgrain six-switch - might as well do it properly By the way, a bit off topic, does anyone English know anywhere in the UK thats good for getting games? I'm in Brighton and I've not got 1 cart 'wild' yet. The only decent find I ever had was my boxed woodgrain VCS for £1.50 Anyway, welcome to the fray
  24. Wow, I could never reach that, though I doubt there are anything like 600 PAL games.
