  1. Mind, no matter how bad an Atari game ET was, it was still an original idea - which automatically makes it better than 99% of modern console fodder.
  2. quote Maybe someone at Atari should have played it first
  3. You can get a similar effect with a regular Atari joystick, simply insert the ET cartridge and bellow into the stick "Fall down a HOLE!!" - the Atari dutifully follows your command in an almost eerie way
  4. Sweet licks by Namco - you know - that game where little mole things pop out of holes and you have to beat the living daylights out of them with a sand-filled hammer thing. It doesn't get any better than that
  5. 2600 trackball to a PC, hmmm - the casings not very big, you'd never get a hard drive, motherboard AND 3d card in there. Sorry, late night - saying dumb things
  6. This is one of the things that really frustrates about ET. I think the reason everybody hates it so much is that we really want to play it - its very nearly a brilliant game, but just one or two things make it almost totally unplayable. Real shame, there'd be a good idea for a new cart. Finish ET and make it good
  7. Admittedly the Saturn had a pretty slow start, but right at the end of its life (when no-one was really looking) it got some AWESOME games. Burning Rangers and Panzer Dragoon Saga spring to mind. Anyway, how can anyone with a conscience say anything bad about the system that brought us Nights into Dreams?? Now I dont know if it ever reached US but I've got to nominate in this category - The Amstrad GX4000. Look it up on the net if you want to see a terrible machine produced by a bunch of cynical halfwits. Awful
  8. haha, I must admit - I loved the fact that they actually made more copies of ET than there were Ataris!! What were Atari thinking??
  9. yeah, it was one of the first games I got on the Atari. Superb isn't it. Oddly enough, I also have a version of it for Dreamcast (a homegrown effort by all accounts). VCS one is better tho (paddle controllers rule)
  10. Even though I didnt initially own the Atari version - Ghostbusters. Nothing brings back the 80s for me as much as that film and all the stuf that surrounded it, I still throw the soundtrack on occasionally when I've got the VCS fired up
  11. hehe, nice post. Incidentally, what happens after the first wave in spice invaders, do they all split off their seperate ways? does one marry one of the graphics from the soccer cartridge??
  12. Video Olympics - for sheer simplicity
  13. We should have an amnesty on spare ET cartridges, then go down and add another few thousand to the landfill

I'd love to get some homegrown games, but as I have a PAL system, that kind of cuts me out
  15. Yeah, the whole homegrown industry is what keeps the spirit alive. I love the fact that people are still putting in the effort to make new games for old systems. Just because only a tiny cross section of gamers will experience these, that doesn't matter a jot. Hell, just because Back Street Boys sell X-million copies, we still know it aint music!
  16. what the hell happened with that double post???
  17. In all this nostalgia though, it IS worth noting that ALL of these books suck badly No amount of rose tinted eyewear can make my Star Raiders book anything other than naff
  18. I wish. I also wish I knew where the landfill in west midlands in the UK is, so I can dig up all the unsold Star Wars toys they buried in 84.
  19. I'm wearing a big blue Atari hoodie right now
  20. I'm wearing a big blue Atari hoodie right now
  21. I honestly don't know how well it'd go down. It seems most misguided people (and an alarming proportion of the gaming press) regard the SNES/ genesis years as the big Retro period. VCS is all but forgotten (even though all those PS2 owners are STILL just playing tarted up Pole Position - and N64 owners never stopped buying Pitfalls)
  22. WOW. I'll say one thing for US, you have the BEST breakfast cereals. We don't even get Fruit Loops here!! (my girlfriend would kill for a box). Crap, I'm changing my own subject again.
  23. Its my fault. I ran over them in my truck
  24. Cool, I've also got the warranty leaflet and repair centre guide for UK atari's. I tried to get mine repaired at the one it said on the leaflet for brighton, but they were a carpet store now. I might see if they can do-up my VCS in a nice Axminster finish
  25. You could probably fit the whole CD and Atari setup in a Sega Saturn casing. You could fit a family of four in a Saturn.
