  1. Excellent post, but thinking on that particular (and logical) piece of advice, I can't think of 5 games I really like on ANY system Maybe I'm too picky as well. In answer to the original post, I'm finding the iPhone/iPod Touch a refreshing source of original games (of course, there's a whole sea of cr*p as well, but that's the tradeoff).
  2. Fallout 3 is now officially my favourite game of all time. Aside from the games you list, Ridge Racer 7 is brilliant. Graphically it's aged, but no-one does racing like Namco.
  3. Oh goodness, you NEED a high def TV for all that. Makes such a massive difference and, of course, when you do get one, you'll also have a pretty good blu-ray player too
  4. Um, I'd say none of the above. I love arcade racers too but the current crop just seem pretty charmless. Even Ridge Racer 7 is a bit sterile. I'd say, if you have access to a Wii, get Excite Truck. That's genuinely fun.
  5. Nice! My wife imported a Spice controller for herself but we never got a Spice GC, wish I had now.
  6. The ZX81. My first machine. I also got (and repaired) one this Christmas. Now, it's importance to the US is pretty nil, but this little machine was a huge deal in the UK. See, it allowed you to own a computer for £69 (less than half of what anyone else was charging). That's really important and kickstarted the entire British gaming boom. Many of the great UK games writers started out with the 81 and, for that reason alone, it does demand a little respect. Sure, it had no color, no sound, some hardware issues, but that wasn't important then. It was a computer and that was enough.
  7. I only found out about Frenzy, the sequel to Berzerk, yesterday.
  8. The wife and I were having a bit of a discussion and would like your wisdom regarding one of videogames oddest but most charming conventions. What was the first videogame that featured fruit as pickups? Was it Pacman or was there some other more obscure claimant to that title?
  9. Well the Final Fantasy XIII LE slim seems to be entering every territory that the game itself is currently released in. So I'm pretty sure it'll get a US and Euro release.
  10. Surely 3d is just the latest stupid gimmick to get people back into movie theaters. The very thing that's been keeping people OUT of theaters is big TVs and things like Blu-Ray. I just don't think it needs this.
  11. Sickeningly awful and, as has been said, a fingerprint magnet. That said, for my Wii, fingermarks were much less a danger to it than dust. It collected a lot of that.
  12. Today it seems. It's on the euro store anyway. US will follow as you're 6+ hours behind our time.
  13. Way I see it is that we already have dozens of platforms to play d-pad style games. I'm really enjoying the titles that make use of the iPhone's own control capabilities.
  14. Sony recommend using a stand for the slim but as long as you don't knock it (and with wireless controllers, it's unlikely to get moved about too much), it should be fine without.
  15. Western Digitals Scorpio blue seems to be the value drive of choice for most (including me). You should get a pretty big capacity drive for less than $100. Have a look at Amazon.
  16. You can get them back together again but it does take forever. I had a similar problem with my shoulder button, but the right one in my case. Now my shoulder button still works but it's permenantly loose and sometimes contacts when it shouldn't. Blasted thing.
  17. Minis are ports of mostly iPhone games but sold for three times the price.
  18. Nope. They've got a proprietory wrapper on their files. You're not going to get any of your own ripped discs running on the PS3.
  19. I normally loathe these type of games and all the screens I'd seen filled me with disdain. However, I played the ps3 demo and didn't stop grinning from beginning to end. I LOVE it! It's wonderfully, absurdly OTT on a way games haven't been since the days of the Saturn. Day one purchase as far as I'm concerned.
  20. A 320Gb WD Scorpio Blue. I don't use the PS3 for media or anything but it was a cheap way of futureproofing. My original 40Gb was getting a touch cramped (I exist mainly on downloaded games).
  21. Oh not this old thing again. Go and buy whatever machine you feel like to play whatever games you want to play.
  22. The black creatures (Moja) can be knocked out but it's all about who has the momentum. If you're launching into it, you'll win, falling on it is passive so it'll grab you. Really glad you're enjoying it. I must get back into it myself.
  23. Oooooh shiny new Macs just out. A 27" quad core iMac!! And that mouse, flaming nora - it's stuff like this that keeps me excited about the platform.
