  1. Curt - You listed everything that I've always wanted in a re-release (once you mentioned VGA). I love that this will be featuring homebrews and the idea of a mag is a nice way to connect the "scene." I'm a sucker who works for a living and buys up this stuff even when its not a good idea financially. You've got my attention and I'll be saving up for this doo dah and keeping my eye on this thread with anticipation. My guess for the company involved Intellivision Productions - perhaps a little confusing but they carry some real retro clout.
  2. Thanks - I should have found that. I guess I have an older version of Stella than I thought.
  3. This game is incredible. I keep a "short list" of my all time favorites for the 2600 (10-12 games), and while there are many great homebrews 'out there,' there are no homebrews in MY list. I've played this game a number of times over the past few years, and I think I'm finally convinced that it belongs in the conversation as one of the greatest games ever made for 2600. The fact that this thread has spent a bit of time discussing its similarities with the arcade version is evidence of its high quality. I think what is most striking about the game is the speed and the ease of which the screen can scroll up and down. I was shocked when I first discovered I could go "backwards" and enemies I had past were still there. Perhaps I am easily impressed but that feature kind of blew me away. All this and I've never even tried to save my high score or hear the Vox sounds . . . Do you have a donations page?
  4. I want the names of my game files to just be larger text. Easier to see on a TV in an arcade cab. I know there are front ends. Wonderin if Stella can just have bigger text.
  5. Escape is Run Stop for me in Vice otherwise bigbee99 is right on Press alt+j to swap joystick ports and then try your fire button again Download a different copy of the disk image I play tons of images from gamebase64. Most of the time the only keys I need are L O A D " * " ,8,1 RUN STOP SPACE +/- Letter keys are the same for me on a US keyboard " is shift+2 * is close bracket ] <above enter next to \> , is the same numbers are the same as mentioned above RUN STOP is escape + is - (sometimes used to go through crack instructions) alt is the same commodore key is usually the left control key
  6. I can't find PC trackballs for 'cheap' at all. I can't even find the one in the picture above for sale. If someone can Hansel and Gretel me to something they think is awesome, please do so.
  7. Thanks for the advice guys - I bought an extension for $5
  8. Don't want to buy anything else, I have an alternative already, I like to learn things. I think it would be easy to connect 3 wires and have something exactly the right length. Someone knows about this and I would be greatful if they would share their knowledge.
  9. I figured someone on here would know this. I have a VGA cable with an attached audio cable with a 3.5mm connector (like phones). The portion of the audio cable that extends away from the VGA connector is not long enought to reach the phones jack on my laptop. I want to try to patch the cable to make it just a few inches longer. If I cut the cord (on the audio only) how many wires will I find inside? Is it just right and left? ground? How do I know which is R,L to match them up to another wire that I'll be using for the 'patch'?
  10. Also looking for Stelladaptor . . . anyone know if they will ever be offered again?
  11. Nice blog Byrdo - you've renewed my interest in this game.
  12. Thanks for the responses guys. Its still in my 'Watch List' - will likely just pass.
  13. Still never did anything with this . . . I have an old DVD player that I can probably junk. Any new developments in this department?
  14. I wonder if he was playing on a CRT. Flicker in Asteroids is much less noticeable on a CRT.
  15. I finally did pull the trigger on the MCC, and I'm a bit underwhelmed. I need to put more time into playing around with it, but the 2600 emulation specifically leaves a lot to be desired. I tried 3 games last night when I got it, Chopper Command, MegaMania, and Missile Command. First off, I wasn't able to find any information at all about adding roms for the atari to the device save for a 2 line mention of the 'User' folder on the website. This thread has 1000x more info about how to control the 2600 emulation than anything that I can find from arcaderetrogaming. When you turn on the MCC it does have a menu with an enticing list of 2600 games. None of the roms are on the SD card of course so choosing one gives you an SD Card read error. Since I've used a computer before - I figured out that I could copy some ROMs into the 'User' folder and this did let me load the 3 games above. Chopper Command displays extra enemies on the left side and I couldn't figure out how to just play a 1 player game, Megamania did the same thing and I couldn't hold the button down for continuous fire (could be a game select issue). Missile command seemed to look ok but when I would shoot some missiles they would disappear and a sort of 'replacement' missile would appear a short distance to the right with the exact same length of trail as the one I just destroyed. I expected new missiles to appear from the top, but perhaps I'm just remembering MC gameplay wrong? I should mention that I have the VGA version and I was using it on an old CRT monitor. It looked good but the image was offcenter to the right although the sizing seemed right, but how would I know what display ratio its actually using? There is nothing I can find that would actually adjust it!? Emulation devices like this take some effort to really use effectively, so I am going to poke around for a while with it and see what I can make of it. @RetroGamingFan if there is a project 'out there' to create user instruction content for this device then I would be willing to contribute. A final question - I'm not asking for a link, but does a romset exist for the 2600 for this device? If someone has come across the romset please let me know. Its going to take some time to rename all the .bins I already have so that they fit with the already created .ini file in the 2600 folder on the MCC.
  16. BennyBingo offered to send me some parts for free and I ended up buying a handful of carts from him. He threw in some extras. It was a perfect experience and I hope I can buy from him again soon.
  17. Aweseome find gnash - before you move on from this completely, do you think you could post a picture? I haven't started my FB2+ mod yet, but I've just acquired the part and was planning on doing it soon.

    Fatal Run

Maybe their solution for displaying text lacked 'elegance' and required extra bytes.
  19. Yeah, I've got all the supplies and tools except the ports. I guess I can pull em off something else . . . . <walks away muttering to himself>
  20. Hey, thanks for the comments on that thread. Seriously, I'll probably now be obsessed with trying an SMS gamepad ;)

  21. Hey, cool pic with the handhelds - ever modded one of those?

  22. Question 1 - I did and the stelladaptor is expensive Question 2 - for paddles IMO current USB gamepads are better than the NES gamepad - I dunno if the SMS one is somehow better, but I don't really care to find out unless someone gives me one for free. Among other things, message boards are for a difference of opinion - the thread starter was trying to pick a fight with his claim, and I just chose to respond to be interesting. I'll be exchanging crap at random with other people who make such singular claims in the future too.
  23. I would have ordered from you already if I could have easily tracked down the various connectors required. Can you offer me any kind of deal to include 3x RCA and 1x SVideo ports?
