(neon struct) is 90% off at $1.79. It came up in conversation here (somewhere?) a week or two ago. Trailer has a nice style to it and 'deus ex' is mentioned 13 times on the steam store page, so I think I'll like it when I get around to it. It only needs 90mb of hdd.

Also aquanox 1+2 are available for $2 for the pair, or $1.24 each. there's also a bigger bundle with the new one, but that also bundles in some soundtrack/artbook dlc so it's probably best to get the third one unbundled.

I went and bought this along with a bundle of games offered with it.  Then I realized, I already had almost everything in the bundle through one of the itch.io bundles that were offered in the past few years.  So if anyone missed this sale - go check your itch.io library.

Haven't played the game yet, but it was cheap enough that there are no regrets.

I don't have any of my own classic time to contribute this week, but man, I played this to death as a kid (on the C64).  I remember when I finally put it all together and could finish the race.  It felt like quite the accomplishment.  Then you can add extra tricks into the mix for a higher score, and I think there are difficulty options too.  In a recent poll about your favorite C64 racing game this was one of my answers.

More Forza (this time played mostly with my nephew) and some Fallout Shelter to fill the time.  Dark Void Zero is a surprisingly fun NES-style spinoff game made by Capcom from their bigger budget console game called Dark Void (which came out years ago and kinda stunk).

I got this hilarious device for $10 and it is worth it just for the shockingly nice sounding Ode to Joy it plays when you turn it on. The fact that its version of Tetris is halfway decent is icing on the cake.

Same device, different presentation and maybe brand:

    No copyright I see. I figure it’s either 1999 or 2000.

LOL - That is one I wouldn't have been able to pass up either.

Years late, I went looking for a like-minded soul to discuss Dark Void Zero.  I got this who knows how long ago on Steam and just started playing it this week.  I think it is pretty genius and not sure why there are so many bad reviews on Steam for it.  They mostly focus on the DRM that was implemented when it was first released with a few negative comments like "It's too hard."  Anyway, the DRM check is still there, but I got through it as intended without any problems.  As for the game being too hard - ha!  If it had been a "real" NES game, it would have been harder and made much less sense.  They mixed in a lot of "modern" game design stuff, and I think it is really fun to play.  It is only 4 levels, but it has some collectibles to find and difficulty levels.  Anyone who likes the NES Capcom stuff should give this a play wherever you can find it.

Oh!! Dark Void Zero (DSiWare)! It’s amazing if you want yet another Metroidvania! But it did it before they were cool.

    Look how neat this is:

Went hunting for comments on Dark Void Zero, as I recently started playing this one from my Steam Library.  I played the first 2 (of 4) levels this week.  It is like a NES game that makes sense and doesn't hate you.  Anyone who is a fan of the old Capcom games should play this.  Jetpacks are fun.

Racing Gears Advance is in my top 5 GBA games and that’s really saying something.

Yeah, I was really surprised by it.  I had seen someone commenting here on Atari Age about it (maybe it was you), and it inspired me to try all the best racing games on the GBA.  It was instantly fun to play and a nice challenge.  It made me wonder if the creators had anything to do with the "Super Cars" series of games because it is very similar.

Side note - I don't really get the F-Zero series.  Those games are consistently near the top of various "best of" lists all the time, but they always just feel like a sort of cheap Mario Kart knockoff to me.

I was travelling this week. so I ended up playing a bunch of handheld games via both original media and emulation.  Racing Gears Advance was a really nice surprise.  It is a great little racing game that got me almost immediately hooked!

Just one classic game for me this week.  I found myself playing a lot of GBA racing games via emulation while traveling, and I wanted to give the original F-Zero another shot.  Honestly, I don't see the appeal of this game.  To me, it looks absolutely awful with those flat textures stretched out along the track, and the colors are hideous.  The gameplay is fine, but every time I try it, I'm just left wondering why anyone would ever play this instead of Mario Kart.

I was also not really impressed with the GBA iterations of this series.  Although I did play a decent copy-cat GBA game called Hot Wheels World Race, but it would only let me play one race before it crashed on the emulator I was using . . .

    Rabbit Transit - 55

    Impossible Mission - 120

    PC DOS

    F. Godmom - 25

    Total time = 255 minutes

I finished F. Godmom! Apparently there are 50 more levels that you had to mail away for. I might have to search for those so I can be fully complete, but this is good enough for now.

I also finished Impossible Mission last night. This was a game I played a lot as a kid but never really understood fully. I used a lot of save states to get to the end but now that I understand how to get there I'm going to try again without cheating!

I finally finished this game a few years ago after being helpless as a child.  To win without saves, I made a bunch of copies of a paper grid like the music puzzle.  Then I would mark up the solution, so I could bank snoozes.

It was a heavy week for me with lots of Forza Horizon 5 broken up by lots of Fallout Shelter and some other co-op games (and a little Hi-Fi Rush in there too).  I got sucked into tuning in Forza which kept me trying different configurations of various cars based mostly on cars that I've actually owned.  I really need to play on a different platform to reduce the load times.  Fallout Shelter is a "free-to-play" single player simulation game where you control a vault and kinda make decisions for the dwellers.  It is sort of like The Sims and Fallout had a baby and it is displayed from the perspective of Little Computer People.

    Too expensive !

Let me elaborate, these are famiclones, a clone consoles, not originals.
No one wants to pay lots of money for knock offs

Plus you can find these cheap anywhere, especially in Chinese stores, they cost anywhere from 5-13$ and thats a brand new boxed console with all gear plus usually cartridge or two.
Games cost around 50 cents to 2$, usually the ones with more games cost more

You REALLY must've wanted to make a point if you created an account on a forum site with a specialized name JUST to tell people reading a 2-year-old thread that these are clones.

Stick around, this is a nice place to talk about old video games.  We even talk about stuff other than familcones sometimes.

This Dreamcast game was actually the first Project Gotham racing game. If you need more of a graphic kick PGR 3&4 are backwards 360 compatible with newer XBox.

I did not know that!  Unless the game is about toy or RC cars, I've pretty much ignored the entire racing genre since like 1998.  I'm interested in catching up, but it will probably take some time.  I've got games from Burnout, Forza, Gran Turismo, Grid, Midnight Club, Need for Speed, and Test Drive queued up.  Might as well add Project Gotham too.

I was inspired to try some Dreamcast racing games this week.  I've been playing a lot of Forza Horizon 5 in the modern tracker, and it made me realize that I've just totally ignored the street racing genre completely for my entire life.  A switch flipped that made me want to get the DC out and give these two a try.  I thought I would just boot these up, play a race and quit, but instead, I played both of these more than I expected.  Everyone says MSR is good, and they are right.  It was a little tough to go back graphically (had to adjust my TV set), but the core gameplay of 3d street racing is right there.  Maybe a weird opinion, but I really liked the way it guided the player through training to unlock more cars and make some real progress instead of just dumping like 30 cars on you right at the beginning.

Everything kinda takes a long time in Forza Horizon 5 on the XBox One because of the additional load times, but I've kept at it.  I've been upgrading and tuning a replica of my own Volkswagen Golf from the 90s, moving it up through the performance classes and then testing it out in various road and street races.  Fun stuff.  I also played some Dreamcast racing games this week . . .

Wow that sucks, was not expecting to get rich from my H.E.R.O. like game, but I did not think it would get stolen so quickly.

Video game business was always hard, constant new technology to learn, lots of business success/failure ups and downs and lots of winner/loser game projects.  But getting my game stolen before buyers can even discover it is quite ridiculous.

Thinking I should go back to being retired.

Hoping this is not a joke account!

I know there are a lot of (new) VCS haters on this site.  I respect the device, but I do not own one.  This is the FIRST thing that has made me seriously consider getting one!  Honestly within the world of classic Atari fans, a new John Van Ryzin game is bigger than the VCS. Your fans are everywhere but definitely here on AtariAge.  Don't know what your agreement is like with "Official" Atari, but if you can offer the game through this site, your fans will buy.  Even if that is a few years from now.

Finally remembered to write down times.  Gotta get back in the habit.

Only one modern game again this week.

    XBox One

Forza Horizon 5 - 780 min (Played this Sun, Mon, and Tues.  The rest of the week was all FF7.  See the Classic Game Tracker for that info.  This was split between working on Rivals and collecting more Accolades.  There's a third person from Twitch in on the races now, too.  It's fun to see them streaming and trying to beat your times.  The Accolades are like in-game achievements... stuff like Own These Five Cars or Drive from Point A to Point B in 1 min 30 sec...  You can unlock some cars from them, but mainly it's just in game points for... um... I dunno actually...)

I have started to get deeper in.  What's your gamertag?  Mine is Wongojack.  I will look for your Rivals times.  I am actually focusing on Class D right now - LOL.  I don't really do Twitch, but I guess I can find you there too.

So, Forza Horizon 5 . . . I have never played a single game in this series ever.  I generally stay away from ultra-realistic car simulation games as I don't really enjoy the idea of "tuning" a 2017 Ford Focus, but hey, I played this one.  I'm not sure that I'm playing it right, but there sure is a lot of it to play anyway.  I might up the difficulty this week, or I might quit all together.
