Ok my tips are that this isn't the 2600 version. Play it differently. #1 Don't even mess with attacking the walkers from the back. Just stay ahead of the front walker and alternate going back and forth and getting safe shots in. #2 Repair your speeder whenever you can. If you are damaged and there isn't a smart bomb after you, repair. it is a pain to get the speeder down there, but it works eventually. #3 Avoid the original Inty controller. Your thumb will be sore after 100 seconds. Find a way to play with an alternate controller. It is a 1-button game, so there are many options via emulation (and even real hardware). Intellivision HSC Season 18 - Game 6 - Demon Attack
wongojack replied to Rickster8's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
Something has always just kinda felt broken about this game. Like, I can't move when I want and shoot when I want. I like the extra boss stage to make it more like arcade Phoenix, but I wish that level felt more finished. Kinda feels like version zero. Gm.1 18,494 Gm.10 6,195 = 24,689 Game 1 Game 10 -
Is there any reason to actually play the original Xbox?
wongojack replied to dudeguy's topic in Modern Gaming Discussion
There's a list of games that pop up that are either exclusive to Xbox or are known to have advantages on the console. Here's some I curated from another thread for you. Bloody Roar Buffy the Vampire Slayer Chronicles of Riddick Butcher Bay Crimson Skies Dino Crisis 3 Fatal Frame II: Director's Cut Fuzion Frenzy (party game) Jade Empire Jet Set Radio Future Metal Wolf Chaos Ninja Gaiden Black Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee & Stranger's Wrath Otogi: Myth of Demons (Action game, kinda souls-y, kinda Ninja Gaiden-y, made by FROM) There's also Otogi 2 Panzer Dragoon Orta Raze’s Hell Steel Battalion <- expensive Voodoo Vince (Platformer, Psychonauts vibes (though Psychonauts is better)) And there have been some who have tried to really pick through the stack for what was truly exclusive to Xbox: -
Neat! Emphasis on Multi-Cart as it comes pre-loaded and doesn't seem to have a method for adding or changing the games. At least there wasn't one described on that site or in the videos.

Intellivision Ice Trek 61 For the Inty HSC. This is the curious case of a game that I THINK has achieved everything it meant to but is no fun at all. It is not broken and works as described - you can play it as intended. However, a few small choices suck all the fun out of it. I played it and logged time for it earlier. My intention was to just log a single score for the HSC, but I convinced myself I could go for the patch, so I played again yesterday. I wish I hadn't. The main problem is that you spend 95% of your time on a single screen, and the gameplay on that screen (while it works) is just one second of frustration after another. I don't think I've ever given a game that wasn't broken a 1 out of 5 or equivalent score, but Ice Trek manages to push itself all the way to the bottom of my (somewhat) considerable memory of gaming experiences. Stay Away!

PC Infectonator: Survivors 108 Train Bandit 32 PS4 Shovel Knight 194 XOne Gems of War 133 Xbox Series S/X Vampire Survivors 90 Most time goes to Shovel Knight which continues to impress. I played Gems of War while listening to a basketball game on the radio (internet radio). and I threw some time into some <120MB games on PC. I also found a deal this week for Verizon customers to get an XBox Series S for only $150, so I scooped it up. This is my first console purchase of the "current" generation. I wasn't planning on getting a series S, but I couldn't pass up the deal. Even if you are not a Verizon customer, I think you can get a coupon code from someone who is and get the discount. This is the link I followed: http://ow.ly/OaAG50N5Num Interesting note about my Series S/X time is that I played Vampire Survivors streaming from the cloud. The game played and appeared exactly as it did when I streamed it to the XBox One earlier in February, and I assume would be exactly the same if streamed to a PC. This poses an interesting question - what console/format does an XBox streaming game fit under? For now I will just log the time for the destination device where streamed, but this has been especially confusing on the PC where the games require a controller and even log you out of an active XBox session.

Intellivision HSC Season 18 - Game 5 - Ice Trek
wongojack replied to Rickster8's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
I played a little more. I wish I hadn't. I turned off the Intellivision before I could take a picture. I only finished 2 games on level 3 and my highest score was around 4800. I am usually very kind to classic games where someone has worked hard and achieved what they set out to accomplish. I think Ice Trek is probably close to what it was intended to be, and the game functions as described in the manual. But this is a special case where I simply think that the game has so little fun in it that it deserves a failing score. Yes it works, but I think I'll need to get some form of illness before I'll agree to actually play it again. 1 out of 5 or whatever the lowest score possible is. -
"2600 Plus" My modernized 2600 console project
wongojack replied to john_q_atari's topic in Atari 2600
I would love to build this as a kit even if it meant I ordered the parts from Mouser myself. Following thread. -
Assume this is from a flat screen TV? The 2600 is a strange animal and it took advantage of the way that CRTs created an image. Flat screens simply aren't expecting the same signal and you'll get a lot of different results based on the TV (as evidenced in this thread). The real test is to try it on a CRT and see if it does the same thing. The expensive way is to get an S-Video or RGB modded 2600 and then connect it to a high quality upscaler, but I'm too cheap for that, and I hear that there can even be some problems with those. If quality is really important to you - get a small CRT.

A/V Moded Atari 2600 and RCA to HDMI video upscaler
wongojack replied to BillDMatt's topic in Atari 2600
It might fix the blurry, but they usually add some input lag. Still could be better than what your TV is doing to the composite signal (which is also adding lag). If possible, I would test it on a non-LCD TV (CRT) to be sure that the blurry isn't just there from the mod. -
PC 10 Second Ninja 35 Atom Zombie Smasher 85 Bejeweled 3 58 BIT.TRIP BEAT 76 BIT.TRIP RUNNER 120 Cally's Caves IV 35 Floating Point 20 Katamari Damacy Reroll 142 Rusty Lake Roots 38 PS4 Shovel Knight 220 Well, I kept playing Shovel Knight and it is really great. I also got the idea to try out Katamari Damacy Reroll after talking about it with my brother-in-law. I had it in my Steam library from some bundle long ago, and I bought him a copy. It is the same old original Katamari that we loved on PS2 - like really the same. It even made me play the tutorial before I could adjust the video and other settings (very un-PC like). I also played the BIT.TRIP games. I played these once upon a time on Wii, and here they are on PC. These games are great at the beginning, but they devolve into some pretty extreme frustration. Instead of a sense of accomplishment, I usually feel defeated even if I manage to complete one of the harder levels. I should switch the difficulty to "easy."

Intellivision HSC Season 18 - Game 5 - Ice Trek
wongojack replied to Rickster8's topic in Intellivision High Score Club
Building that ice bridge just sucks. A lot of the frustration could be removed if you were prevented from moving forward after throwing the hook. The controls are just too complicated. Push the button, push a direction, release a direction, release the button. Too many things to do and there's not enough control over the hook or the fireballs. 95% of all gameplay occurs on that screen and more than half of it is replaying after ice takes out a long stretch of bridge - not fun. Game 2 - 5,010 Link for @Rickster8 https://1drv.ms/u/s!AiKfPh2o0XvsjNRuJwFRsqHTogrEDg?e=nMApyw (does that one work?) I don't think I can bring myself to play again on game 3. -

Intellivision HSC Season 18 - Game 6 - Demon Attack

Sigh - there's nothing objectively wrong with this game, but I almost never have fun playing it. I prefer the faster speed with bullets that move the best, but overall, I'm not really a fan. As far as I can tell, there is no way to distinguish between levels from the game over screen. G.1 3793 G.10 3136 = 6929 Game 1 Game 10 -
LOL - great contribution to this thread. On what platform did you play this?
