  1. Sorry - I mixed the redemption with this thread because I couldn't find a unique (recent) thread on it and thought perhaps it was the same thing - it's not. I have nothing to do with the redemption, I just was looking for direct info about it, and I would love to hear more about the OP product as well.
  2. Life is Strange Finished Life is Strange (original). It was ok. It got a lot better after about the first 1.5 episodes as the stakes increase quite a bit. Still thought it felt a bit like the "Hello Fellow Kids" meme at times, and I probably would have enjoyed it more in 2015 when it came out, but it was a good story, and it used that familiar Telltale engine to do something different than The Walking Dead. Interesting note on this one is I went to college (and did theatre) with the actor who voices Mr Jefferson (and Zachary and the Janitor). I give it 3 out of 5. "Don't let the squirrels die . . ." Pong Quest Well, this game started out with promise, but it just kinda stunk it up in the end. The first hour is cute and fun, but then the idea gets REALLY old. The pong gameplay is played with the keyboard and is totally uninteresting. It never poses a real challenge or offers the thrill of "real" pong, and the so-called dungeons offer nothing except the most basic process of elimination exploring. I even hit a bug where one of the dungeons couldn't be solved. I was tricked into thinking that maybe the game had given me a new challenging puzzle to solve, but it was just a disconnected maze. I had to die and restart with a solvable map. Thankfully, the fun little tunes that play stop you from quitting and forgetting the game exists all together, and the references to classic Atari games (other than pong) manage to make you smile occasionally. But really, the only way I would be happy paying actual money for this would be if it was included as cereal box prize or maybe rebranded as a "Slim Jim" game to be won after redeeming proof of purchases from the packaging. I give Pong Quest a 2 out of 5 and could probably be convinced it deserved a 1.

  4. PC Breakout Recharged 40 Pong Quest 550 XOne Life is Strange 703 I wasn't really that happy with Life is Strange when I started it, but it got better as I went along. On the other hand Pong Quest just kind of sucks. I'd recommend playing it as a demo and then stopping. The idea is fun, but it doesn't change much. I still have a dungeon or two left before I deliver a final verdict on that one.
  5. I got mine last week. Email him.
  6. That was a very precise answer @Steven Pendleton - thank you. So, is it safe to say that DS games that only require the DS cart slot (no GBA) will work on the 3ds and New 3ds? If so, I did not know this. I totally skipped the 3ds, but knowing it is compatible with all the DS games I have makes me want one a slight bit more. What I'd really like is a way to play DS games on my TV somehow. It felt like the Wii U was headed that way, but alas, we never got there.
  7. No classic time for me this week, but I did create a "tiered list" of all the games that I played for more than 200 mins in 2022. You can check that out here:
  8. 9. This is exactly what I would like to know. Am I even playing the right game?
  10. I was directed to this site today where William Moeller is selling roms (and other things) directly. Prices are in Canadian $$ Digital Downloads (intellivisioncollector.com)
  11. I just played the first 1.5 episodes. Still waiting for the "holy shitballs" part. It just plays as some kind of CW show. I didn't know how dated dialog and technology references from 2015 were, but I do now. I don't think I can take many more "hella" or "punk ass" references. I am also REALLY impatient with the whole "watch careful" mechanic of rewinding time. I don't usually play games as a teenage girl talking to other teenage girls about "CDs" (hello 1995) in their rooms. Does the game change or something? Can I see more of that vortex? Edit - The above comes across as kind of hostile on a re-read. Sorry about that. I'm just wondering if this is like a CW show the rest of the way or if it changes at all.
  12. All right, here is the 5th and final game I targeted for the end of the year - Rebel Galaxy This was a nice little game that knows exactly what it is. It came out in 2015 and only takes up about 2gb of hard drive space, meaning it fits easily on a DVD and could have been a game for the 360 or even original XBox (or Sony equivalent). I think this game was probably small in scope even when it came out which means that today, it feels a bit "cute," but there's no problem with that really. The gameplay consists of piloting a ship between trade hubs and space stations and completing combat missions that let you advance the story (or not). The combat is not complicated and is sort of similar to open naval combat as you have broadsides as your most devastating attacks. I got attracted to this game first because of comparisons to Sid Meier's Pirates, and those comparisons are certainly warranted, but Rebel Galaxy doesn't quite live up to that legendary classic in the end. Instead, it gets everything it is trying to do right and gives you a nice experience while doing it. My criticism is that it doesn't take long to "see the strings" of the puppeteer in this one, and I wasn't really interested in playing beyond the main story. I give it a solid 3 out of 5.
  13. I emailed him and ordered one. He sent me this: The adapters are $60 plus 7.89 for priority postage. I handmake them and use the same circuit board as the original issue from 2003. The main difference is that I use a longer 6' extension cord rather than a short pigtail. This allows the adapter to also function as a controller extension cable. I test them individually before shipping to ensure that all the keypad and controller functions are working correctly. I recommend the version that works natively with Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis pads, but I can make 7800-controller-compatible ones as well. In Steve’s video, he attempts to use 2600-compatible sticks with the 7800 adapter, which it wasn’t designed to work with. He eventually gets it working by inserting the Seagull 78 adapter, but no adapters are necessary with the Atari 2600/Sega version; these work directly with Atari 2600 sticks for 1-button games, or Sega Genesis / Sega Master System sticks for 2-button games, as well as other 2600-compatible sticks. You can send $67.89 via PayPal to jenkins2541@gmail.com (or Venmo to 317-407-6265 / @Matthew-Jenkins-66) and I’ll get it shipped out on Tuesday. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, and thanks again for your interest. Happy gaming, Matthew
  14. I think it was a combo of a few things. First, I've had it on my radar from 2015 when it was at the top of many GOTY lists. I had VERY high expectations for it that I think weren't really warranted. Second, it exists mostly in reference to some source material that just isn't my thing. I'm not really into Earthbound, Pokemon, Anime, or JRPGs in general, so I see this game as a reaction to 'something' and the 'something' isn't even anything I'm that interested in. Because of the high reviews, I expected it to transcend a bit, and it didn't do that. Also - it was too meta. Right from the start, I felt like I was being experimented on. Here I posted more on it on this thread: https://forums.atariage.com/topic/346329-modern-games-beaten-in-2023/
  15. Hey time tracking friends! There's a thread on VideoGameSage where the users rank all the games they played in a year by tier, so I went through and figured out all the games I played more than 200 mins and tiered them. I don't have an 'S' tier because I've had a long career of being asked to differentiate . . . things, and I've made up my mind that we really only need 5 categories of differentiation. Everything else is fart smelling. Although, I did pick a 1, 2, 3 from the A-tier, so I guess I'm a hypocrite. Note that I participated in a NES and Intellivision high score club in 2022, so those systems are fairly heavily represented. #1 - Horizon Zero Dawn <- I loved this game #2 - Pinball Arcade (World Cup '94 Table) <- Took me years to finally win the World Cup on this table #3 - TMNT III: The Manhattan Project <- Total shock at how impressed I was with this game Note - My wife's vote for #1 as a backseat gamer was Return to Monkey Island A 1943 - NES Beamrider - Intellivision Beauty and the Beast - Intellivision Defender of the Crown - Atari ST Dreadnaught Factor, The - Intellivision Horizon Zero Dawn - PS4 Mass Effect Legendary Edition - XOne Overcooked 2 - XOne Pinball Arcade, The - PC RC Pro AM - NES Return to Monkey Island - PC RBI Baseball - NES Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Wii TMNT III: The Manhattan Project - NES B Bionic Commando Rearmed - X360 Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 - X360 Dicey Dungeons - PC Guerrilla War - NES Hostages (aka Hostages - Rescue Mission) - Various Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories - GBA Pinball - Intellivision Return of the Jedi - Arcade Sensible World of Soccer 2020 - Amiga Shark Shark - Intellivision Spacelines from the Far Out - Xone Space Spartans - Intellivision Sub Hunt - Intellivision Tetris - NES The Last of us Part II - PS4 C Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Freedom Cry DLC - XOne Blood Stone 007 - X360 Demon's Souls - PS3 God of War: Ghost of Sparta - PS3 (PGA) Golf - Intellivision Life Force - NES Malzbie's Pinball Collection - PC Masters of the Universe: The Power of He-Man Rebel Galaxy - PC Retro Bowl - Browser Sensible World of Soccer - X360 Spellspire - PC Tharsis - PC D 11-11 Memories Retold - PC Burgertime - Intellivision Undertale - PC F Donkey Kong - Intellivision

  17. I finally played TLoU pii. I have watched some reviews and they seem to go between two opinions. 1) I loved Joel and Ellie and you created a cheap story to shock us - I hate it 2) They were trying to shock us and put us in a different character's perspective - I love it For me, I'm in between. I kinda never really liked Joel. He seemed like a poor man's version of so many other heroes from Zombie fic that I just found him forgettable. For me, the original game didn't hit its stride until more than halfway through, but I was always kinda separated from the story and focused on the gameplay. Part II was about the same. I didn't care about the way they handled Joel, I was just looking for some nice gameplay and a good story. The game mostly delivered on that, but I thought they were a bit cowardly with the ending and a few of the story choices. I also didn't think the game needed to be as long as it was. The gameplay just didn't change enough to warrant all that story telling (and I love story-driven games). I found myself wanting them to take a Batman Arkham approach where I could play challenge rooms with various environments and all my skills, but the gameplay seems to be a bit of an afterthought with this series as the most compelling sections are the epilogues of both games where Ellie has all of her abilities and can eliminate threats with the most freedom. Anyway, I posted more on the games completed thread here: I liked this game, but I think if I had to rank it among the big PS4 exclusives that I would put it near the bottom. Astrobot and HZD are at the top with God of War and Uncharted 4 coming after (in that order). Then I'd probably slot in TLoU pii. Still haven't played Spiderman, Death Stranding, or Tsushima yet, but I will get there.
  18. Glad to hear this. I have a login over there, but I haven't been back in some time. Will stop over again soon.
  19. Is this somehow related to this: Video link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSw6gO3NINk I think I've seen two people link to this video on Facebook recently. Does anyone know about this new/old adapter? I'm shocked that I can't find a thread here specifically about it. I know the wired-up retro guy is on here, so maybe he can chime in. @ave1
  20. Hey @carlsson, can you also pin the Modern Games Beaten in 2023 thread?
  21. No classic time for me in the first week. Still working on finishing some modern games
  22. PC Undertale 131 PS4 The Last of Us pii 690 Wii Super Mario Galaxy 2 95 XOne Disc Room 36 I wrapped up a playthrough of both Undertale and TLoU pii and posted about them in the games beaten thread. I'd probably score both games lower than most with Undertale being particularly less than impressive (for me).
  23. Well, I finished it and got the "neutral" ending. From what I've read that is the only possible ending on your first run (unless you go genocide). I can't be bothered with another. I'd rather play one of the JRPGs in the backlog that I've never played before.
