Atari SA had sold it off to Tommo a decade ago. It was included on Atari 50 and all physical copies of it included it, yet the day 1 patch hid it.

I imagine they simply had anticipated finalizing the reacquisition of all of that IP last year that they had sold off to Tommo, prior to Atari 50's launch date. But presumably the deal ended up being delayed (Atari announced the reacquisition on April 19th this year). Thus the need to retract Warbirds with the day 1 patch last fall and why today's patch has returned it to the game lineup now that it's again Atari SA owned IP.

Was that from the 2013 bankruptcy sale? I knew they lost Battlezone to Rebellion and I thought Tommo was the one that got Math Gran Prix, but I did not realize they lost Warbirds. So they got Warbirds back with the Accolade/GT Interactive/MicroProse deal?

  2. I hopped on to grab Circus Atari for free and saw all those games still on sale. I decided to see if I could purchase some, and had no problem. So I bought Missile Command Recharged, Guntech 2, and Tempest 4000. Unfortunately the latter two would not download since I am out of storage. Now I get to look into adding more storage to my VCS 800.

Ok I figured it out.  First of all the manual has it backwards!  In the final version A = 3 speeds and B = 2 speeds.

What this means is that when the 2 speed mode is selected the buggy is always moving fast, as if the joystick is pushed forward.  You can still slow down. but your normal moving speed is fast.  When the 3 speed mode is selected your normal moving speed is between the slow and fast speeds and pushing forward speeds up and makes you go fast.  It's hard to see because there isn't that dramatic of a difference, but it's there if you time it.

Interestingly the 7-31 prototype has the same setup as the manual (A=2 speeds and B=speeds).  I have no idea why they changed this for the final, but they forgot to update the manual when they did.  The speed option didn't get implemented until the 7-26 prototype which was towards the end of development (8-2) is the final version which may be why the manual is wrong.

I just checked this, and it is weird that even on the fast speed, you can still "speed up" like in the other version, but the speed stays the same and only your position changes.  I understand they did that to help avoid enemy fire, but I think that is what makes it not obvious that you base speed is different.  Excellent job figuring it out though.  Add it in with Breakout to Atari published games that get the difficulty switch positions wrong in their manuals.

This is getting to the point where I've asked to be refunded the cost of the VCS, I'll return it and take a loss on the games I was able to buy when I first got it.  I'm looking forward to getting my 2600+, but this is insanity.  I was fine until I had to switch to a new debit card when I switched banks, now this has just gotten ridiculous. How in the world can they conduct business like this and how can they in good conscious still sell what stock they have left of these knowing the buyers won't be able to purchase games?

How long have you had it?

Wow, that's awesome. It's basically saying that Jaguar / Land Rover is no longer going to go through with their trademark infringement claim.

The second paragraph then basically says that the trademark office will continue with the processing of "Atari's" Jaguar trademark: https://uspto.report/TM/97629435

Looks like Atari filed that back in 2022, so my guess is they either intend to use it, or just want to retain it (because everyone else is using it). But the positive could be that they very well are expecting to do something with it.

Also worth noting that it looks like in August, and then previously in May, Atari went roughshod on the trademark office, submitting multiple trademark registrations (to recertify) a lot of trademarks they had.. everything from the Atari 5200, to the M Network, to the Atari ST. Pretty cool... you can see those here: https://uspto.report/company/Atari-Interactive-Inc

(sorry if someone has already posted all this stuff, but that's pretty cool)

According to that link, Atari owns the name "Atari Games" and its logo.

Ouch. People have confused A(dvanced)/B(eginner) in the past. It looks like this happened again.

At least this problem can be fixed by the users.

Maybe now people will start on the easier levels on some of those third party games that had the difficulty switch positions reversed like Masters of the Universe. Assuming that one does not use the currently unsupported M Network bankswitching method.

  7. The zip code error finally got me.  My debit card expired on Halloween, and I lost the replacement.  I had to order a new one and it came in today.  I figured a new VCS 800 game would be a good test to see if the card was activated, but instead I got the zip code error.  It is strange how I got the error after I changed cards.
